I knew the 3D special effects would be the standout feature for Avatar, and they didn't disappoint. Seeing it in IMAX 3D increased the suspense, and made it into an event, not just a movie. We were in a sold-out early showing on Christmas Day, and got great seats. The funny thing is - the plot was recycled from other movies, but the visuals were so beautifully rendered that it didn't matter. It's a fish-out-of-water story that takes virtual reality and avatars to the next step. It's military vs. scientists and white invaders vs. blue natives. It's energy-sucking technology vs. rainforest resources. It's an action flick with a love story. But ultimately, it's absolutely fun to watch. And a great way to spend 3 hours on Christmas.

"Avatar is, without a doubt, the most visually stunning movie I've ever seen. Although I'm sure it would be okay in 2D, seeing this movie in 3D Imax gave it amazing depth and texture. While some reviewers say the story line is derivative, I thought it was a fresh take on a popular theme. The acting was great, giving the characters true believability. Don't miss this one!

We thought the movie was fanastic but the 3D was spotty. Sometimes it looked great, other times it was just a lot of double images. We've seen better 3D but it still was well worth it.

The IMAX 3D was amazing. I'm so happy we chose this format... even my seven year old who doesn't like to see 3Ds because of the glasses was glad he went and the boys (7 and 11) were thrilled.
Though the general story line is mediocre the special effects, color, and fantasy factor definitely made the movie a five star for us.

With all of the hype surrounding this film, I do not wish to add to the din...however, this is one of those rare movies where the hype is an understatement. I watched with my jaw agape, my eyes unblinking and my mind soaring at what I was experiencing - not only watching and hearing but being immersed in a world and a story. This was a wonder to behold. The IMAX 3D only enhanced the experience.
Cameron has exceeded expectations.

One of the most amazing films I've ever seen. I was mesmerized from the very beginning until the final credits rolled. I loved the Avatars and absolutely detested the villain ex-Marine. The special effects were phenomenal. I felt that I had been personally transported to the Planet Pandora. I would go and see Avatar again today if I could find the time.

Draws you into an amazing fantasy world with a richness and vividness that makes you feel you are there, yet is just the right blend of recognizable and utterly alien.
Great cinematography, very well done special effects.
Characterizations a bit too one dimensional and defined by stereotypes in places instead of imaginative writing. While this flaw keeps this from becoming an all time great movie, I highly recommend you find your way to an Imax 3D version of the film and immerse yourself in the world of Pandora.

Went to see Avatar with my son on Christmas Day. What a gift that was. Everything about this flick is amazing in IMAX 3-D - I couldn't help put my hand out to try to catch some of the floating images. Makes Star Wars into old school. I will see it again - recommend that everyone see it as cutting-edge future entertainment.

Seeing Avatar in 3D and IMAX is an amazing experience. The movie sets on Pandora make me want to live there with The People. I recomment that eveyone see Avatar and I hope they enjoy it as much as I did. It is definitely a "No Miss Movie". Will definitely see it again.

I love the Sci Fi genre for their special effects. We saw this movie in IMAX 3D and James Cameron truely outdid himself with this movie. The special effects presented take this artform to the next level. The special effects created for Start Wars 30+ yrs ago, changed the movies, this movie will do the same. The effects are visually outstanding, creative and beautiful. Pandora is a real place, not a green screen creation. The story line is ok, a bit preachy but you really don't care because you'll be totally overwhelmed by the magnificence of the vision. Best movie of all time, not a chance, but hands down, the best special effects ever produced.

I didn't expect to REALLY like this, just wanted to spend time with friends and family. Special effects are amazing! Story and characters draw you into their story. You forget that the avatars aren't real. This movie MUST be seen in the IMAX3D Experience. Can't wait for Part 2 and Part 3!

This was an awesome movie, presented in spectacular fashion. The computer graphics blended seamlessly with the live action, and it was not possible to tell where one ended and the other began. The IMAX experience made it seem like you were actually in Pandora.
I had considered taking my 9 year old son to this movie, and after seeing it, I am glad that I did not. I think the language, violence, and intensity would be too much for a pre-teen.

I took my son 180 mi. to see this for a Christmas present. Avatar is not only a great visual experience but, has a great storyline. IMAX 3d brings you into a whole new dimension as you seem to be within the enviroment. My son said after "I want to see it again". Was a great present for a 12 yr. old.

While watching Avatar I was reminded of movies like Star Wars, The Matrix, etc. I think this movie will be regarded as ground breaking at least in terms of special effects and creating new worlds. The idea behind the story is great, but like the other reviews say, the telling of the story could have been much better. Still, it was worth the $15 I paid for my ticket. I rarely buy DVD's but I think this is one for which I'll make an exception.

I saw this in IMAX 3D - there is NO OTHER way to see this movie, any other way would greatly lessen the experience. Went with my husband and two adult daughers and we all loved it! The IMAX 3D made you feel like you were a part of the action in the movie. The art, creativity, story line, the color - unlike anything I've ever seen in a theatre before. The first movie I've seen in years where I wanted to turn around and go right back to see it again!

Great movie although, best rated for the computer generated scenery. The story itself was a bit hokey - warrior saves his true love and her people, but was obviously done to appeal to all audiences young and old as other movies of the same venue. Cameron really had a vision and alot to say. Lots of subtle references about life on Earth. Go see it primarily for the effects, the story itself is familiar.

This movie was absolutely wonderful! I saw it in the IMAX 3D experience and think all movies from this point forward should be made as such. Every aspect of the movie pulled me interested and kept me entertained. This 2:40-long movie flew by seemingly in the span of a "regular length" movie...this always lets me know that I enjoyed the movie! By the way, how many movies are there that AREN’T predictable? Movies (and books) have a specific recipe that makes for a great/excellent movie. If those that complain about predictable story plots want an UNpredictable story plot, they should expect to be disappointed by some other (usually more important) aspect of the movie. I could go on, but if the point has not been made by now, it will never be.
