Yes it was the same old storyline...group of people battling, boy meets girl, girl doesn't like boy, boy falls in love with girl, but before girl reciprocates, he has to earn her trust. Girl falls in love with boy, bad people get the upper hand, boy tries hard to defend girl saves boy. HOWEVER...this movie will NOT lose your attention!!

Of course the movie was awesome, enjoyed the 3d experience...but the movie theater was disappointing to say the least. First, no ABO, had to stand in line even though paid extra to buy the tickets online ('convenience fee' my butt)..The theater, Dickinson Imax on Signal Butte in Mesa, AZ; was pathetic. Smelled like a sewer when we walked into the theater, then smelled overpoweringly of vomit when we reached our seats...Apparently, Imax nowadays means nothing more than a slightly curved screen...Why exactly did I pay $13 for a ticket? The special glasses that were dirty and too flimsy to be able to be cleaned?.....I will never return to this theater, and you shouldn't either.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Incredible technology with an old story. Just like George Lucus playing with his toys in Star Wars, the story line plays second fiddle to showing us Cameron's new toys. The story line has been done many times before. If you're not into the technology, go see Dances with Wolves. The story was done much better by Costner.

This movie, not only is one of the best science fiction movies ever, but the environmental message, the connection of all creatures with nature and the technology displayed are really amazing. I've seen and read science fiction since I was 17, and seen all kinds of movies. But this movie is a landmark.

This movie was a "WOW" in my opinion. The 3D experience is highly recommened versus the regular viewing(As per other family members that went the day after I saw it in 3D and was stunned by it). Movie is high action is spots and loud but that added to the experience. At times you felt as if you were part of the movie. Took from it a unique thought about how our spirtiual selves can connect with our surroundings and how they relate together.
Best movie experience of life so far.

I am not an action movie fan, but I loved Avatar IMAX 3D. Although wearing the glasses for three hours was tiresome after awhile, it didn't really seem like three hours. The visual effects were incredible and the story keeps moviegoers in suspense. It really is a must-see.

The colors and scenic views, and the filling of being right there was worth the 3D experience. Reminded me of the time when the foreigners came and began to settle in USA, they took the land from the native Americans who in there traditions lived in harmony with the land and animals and where called savages. To take history and bring into the future truly shows how the evil the dwells in the hearts of man can destroy what it don't understand, (or won't understand) for the sake of riches.

Most entertaining movie I have ever experienced and I do mean experience instead of watched. Even my wife loved it, and she is almost impossible to impress with technology. The 3D special effects along with the IMAX surround sound made this a once in a lifetime event. Plus, there was a very good story line. A love story embedded in all the special effects. It reminds me of my youth when I went to see the first Star Wars in 1978. That movie, just like this one, opend the door on the next generation of films and it will be many years until another comes along.

I first saw this movie in regular 2D; but i heard so much about it that i had to see it in 3D IMAX. It had to be the best experience you could get out of a movie. I felt immersed in the world made by James Cameron. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone. I would gladly pay 12 dollars to go see it again with some friends.

If you are so defensive that you read propaganda and racial into everything why bother leaving your house. This movie is pure fantasy and science fiction. It is an awesome experience in the realm of a fantasy world with CGI that will just blow you away. Enjoy the story for what it is. This has to be the most astounding movie I have ever seen. As was Star Wars when it was release along with Star Trek and Lord of the Rings. As technology advances the movies become more amazing. You have to see this and watch it for the entertainment value. This movie was one for the heart. It's combination of themes and genres made it stand out amongst other movies for the Christmas season and possibly for the year. It did not stray from an intended direction: The focus was constant throughout and was without fail a heartwarming and inspirational tale. This was definitely a movie that should be viewed and shared by families.
The effects were incredible! I viewed the film on IMAX 3D and was completely blown away by the experience. The sounds were vibrant and crisp. I felt like I was directly in the envrionment. The visuals were stunning and made me feel as if I could reach out and touch anything and everything that was on the screen.

Go. Sit (not too close!). Gape. Lose yourself for 2-1/2+ hrs. The scholarly looking sci-fi buff seated near me said Cameron waited over 10 years for the technology to evolve sufficiently to portray his concepts, and you don't have to BE a sci-fi buff to appreciate the results: sensories on stun, all the way. Touching without being maudlin, and affording viewers (that term seems too limited; "participants" would be more accurate) an experience that has implications on aesthetic and real-world social levels. But you don't need to bother taking in any of that unless you care to, so fear not. Fascinating and worth the wait.

Visually stunning, well crafted with sound and music to transport you to another time and place. The rich detail and effortless-appearing melding of graphics and camera easily make you confuse which is reality. The director has drawn the audience into this world as a participent causing emotion and wonder. Although the storyline is "Dances with Wolves", the 3D IMAX experience is startling and causes one to remember why the theater experience is so much more than watching a film.
