Go. Sit (not too close!). Gape. Lose yourself for 2-1/2+ hrs. The scholarly looking sci-fi buff seated near me said Cameron waited over 10 years for the technology to evolve sufficiently to portray his concepts, and you don't have to BE a sci-fi buff to appreciate the results: sensories on stun, all the way. Touching without being maudlin, and affording viewers (that term seems too limited; "participants" would be more accurate) an experience that has implications on aesthetic and real-world social levels. But you don't need to bother taking in any of that unless you care to, so fear not. Fascinating and worth the wait.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
