I coaxed my wife into accompanying me to this movie in IMAX based on reviews from this site and Fandango alone. Initially I wasn't jumping out of my seat to see near three hours of blue people running around the forest. Buy tickets on line and arrive early, but I suggest waiting a few days because our necks were as sore as our eyes from our first row seats. While I'd love to have been able to watch this in its full glory somewhere 30 feet or so further from the screen, I'm not sure I was captivated enough to cough up the clams to do it again.

people who are saying this is the best movie they have ever seen must not have seen very many movies to begin with. sure it was visually stunning but it wouldve been nice if they spent more than $10 on the script. basically the same story as dances with wolves or pocahontas except with aliens. was it a good movie? yes. was it worth all the hype? no. worth paying for IMAX 3D? definitely. if it wasnt for the amazing, sometimes over done CGI this movie wouldve been boring. about halfway thru anyone can figure out how it is going to end. unless you can see it in IMAX 3D wait for the blu-ray.

One of the best science fiction movies ever made. I would recommend 3D. The movie was great, but the theatre left something to be desired. In the Imax (the third time I seen it) the chairs were such that you were constantly pushing yourself back up ( they slanted so you slipped off and after a long move were uncomfortable) some chairs were completely broken that could not be used. Very poor for AMC.

We saw this in 3-D IMAX and it was incredible. One of the best movies I have ever seen. It was more than just watching a movie it was an experience. I took my two teenagers and they are ready to see it again.

There was some impressive part of the experience, like the hanging chunk of land as the characters flue by them, and some of the animals. The Tech was awesome at time, but some scenes looked like another movie all together.
Why all the Nobi people (blue monkeys) were the same shade of blue? In nature we know that there is a wide variation of color, depth of tones, and even size within the same clan.
The story is water down; Cameron said it did not take him long to write the script; it showed.
I do not like the same message and theme rammed down my trough. Some characters too stereotypical.

I am not much of a techno-buff and went with my husband who is, to an IMAX theater. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The story itself was good, but the scenes and special effects were outstanding and the Avatars really reflected the actors faces. Truly a piece of art.

Movie was outstanding, but getting into the movie was a total nightmare! We saw it at the Imax in Alexandria-AMC-We waited in the most crowded, disorganized "line", then went in and waited in another line, and then made the worst decision of the night: getting something from the concession stand! The 4 guys behind us actually started TIMING how slow they were helping people-over 4 minutes per person! With 10 plus people in front of us almost FORTY minutes just to get drinks! Then, unbelieveably, two employees started stocking straws and napkins (already plenty in the bins, mind you!) and the manager looking guy was stocking candy! They had 4 lines of at least 20-30 people and 4 closed registers!

This has to be the best movie I've ever seen. The life-network concept makes so much sense, reaction causes another reaction that causes yet another reaction that creates a final moment in which everything comes together. Again I say, Best movie anyone will ever seen for the next 2 decades in my opinion. I can go even further in review of this movie, such as, in the beginning, when you first see "The People" you think they're strange and unforgiving ,by the end you might think like I did and think they're beautiful. but see it in Imax 3D. If you don't have an Imax theater within a 1hour radius of you and you do have a normal one, It's actually Worth it to travel an hour to see it in 3D.

This was a fantastic movie that bowled me over with the special effects showcasing Pandora.
The 3-D was used in a new manner for movies not done as your typical 3-D with items being "thrown" at you but enhancing the quality of the film so you're in a theater watching something akin to Blu-Ray.
You definitely need to see the movie in 3-D to truly see how incredible it looks.

I loved the movie. It's a great story with the most amazing visuals I've ever seen. The musical score is outstanding, as well. I've seen it in both IMAX 3D and Real D 3D. IMAX 3D glasses were more uncomfortable to wear and irritated my eyes a little. The Real D was comfortable the entire time.

The visuals, the sound, the action was amazing, the 3D was cool, but sadly your eyes get used to it after a few minutes so you lose the illusion of it but the movie experience was totally crazy good, go see this thing in imax, truly worth the money..

This is a movie that screams to be seen in 3D and even better on Imax. Visually one of the best animated movie (or any other) that we've seen in years. Though predictable and thin in the plot, the overall experience more than makes up for the depth in the script as well as the social commentary toward the end. Easily in the top five of box office trips we've made in 2009.

It would be too easy to say that words cannot describe Avatar, but I'll try anyway.
It is astonishingly creative, visually astounding, and endlessly absorbing. After the introduction to Pandora (which is a Greek word that means "all-endowed"), there is no lull that allows the viewer to take a breath.
Cameron paints a world stunningly terrible in its beauty and a race of people that will overwhelm you with their heart and spirit. Especially marvelous is the luminosity of this world. It almost has a dreamlike quality which is kind of neat given that the Avatars are called “dream walkers” by the native people.
See it. You will be transported to another world - one which you won’t want to leave.

This movie is, without a doubt, the best movie I have seen all year. It's visually stunning AND has a fabulous plot, something that rarely happens together. Normally I am antsy from sitting so long during any movie over 2 hours but this movie had me captivated from beginning to end.

Enjoyed the movie very much. Thought the effects were incredible, and the IMAX 3d experience a treat. That said believe the film could've been trimmed in places. It's a little long. Story was good but not great. Loved the two lead actors.

I went for the special effects and 3D, but it was a very entertaining movie, also. I thought it might be, so I took my movie-hating girlfriend, who usually falls asleep. She was wide awake throughout the movie and, at the end, said it was very good!!

All I can say is this: I'm turning 50 this year, and it's the very first time I can remember running back and forth to the men's room- like a 12 year old at his first James Bond movie- because I didn't want to miss any extra seconds! And definitely worth the extra money and travel time to see it in IMAX.

I saw Avatar in 3D Imax and it was a total immersion experience. We were wowed and slightly disoriented leaving the theater. It felt to me like one of those amusement park movie experiences that wow you, but a full 2 hours and 40 minutes of it. Very worth the money. Loved the visuals and the story, while full of cliches and holes, was emotional and engaging.

The movie was indeed eye candy for even the most technologically advanced computer geek. There was incredible detail in everything and the color was amazing, even without the IMAX and 3D magic, the movie's presentation made my eyes drool with wonder and amazement. The story, however, I thought was unoriginal, mixed with Ferngully and Pocahontas and that's why I docked off a star. Overall, it was entertaining and enjoyable.
