Moive is a bit slow at first but then gets much better. If you are a 3D gamer you'll be impressed by the graphics. Note you'll have to wear special 3D glasses. Bring some nose pads. The 3D glasses did not fit my wife's nose very well and she had to hold the glasses to her face the entire time.

Except for the heavy glasses you have to wear. This movie was amazing at the IMAX 3D. Great story. Spectacular visual effects. Don't even have to like SYFY to enjoy this movie. You might want to enjoy some action though. Really need to see this movie to believe.

What is an "IMAX Experience" without the ENORMOUS SCREEN? I feel duped by AMC and movietickets.com for not informing me that the theatre I saw AVATAR in was 1/3 the size of the screen I've come to know as the IMAX EXPERIENCE. You've ripped me off; I had no interest in seeing this unless in IMAX 3D, and yet I watched it on a screen inches bigger than the normal screens to which I'm accustomed.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The first time I saw Avatar was at a cinema which offered the movie in a regular format, which I normally prefer. My movie experience was so enjoyable I just couldn't wait to see it again but in IMAX 3D. I wanted to see the added effect of the superior formats and it was well worth going again. Even if you're not a huge fan of 3D or don't feel IMAX is very special... it made the experience far better. Please don't let the opportunity to see this movie in IMAX 3D pass you by!
***Side note*** At the end of the movie, both times, the entire audience applauded & the vast majority stayed through the entire credits! That in and of itself as a fact is a groundbreaking spectacle, especially if you've seen a number of movies in theaters.

Transformers was good in IMAX, but this movie tops it -- great story line, very little slow time (for a long movie), and special effects that will blow you away! Sit in the middle, up front - you won't be sorry! Military vs Man & Beast at it's best!

By far the best movie this year! Well worth the admission to watch in Imax.
There was so much parallax in camera. It wasn't just one visual gag in 3D but multiple planes.
The characters and the environment was so lush and detailed in their design and animation that you just accept them as reality. They don't have the stiff feeling like watching other films like Beowolf or Final Fantasy.

By far the best movie I have ever seen! Visually stunning which was more than I expected, but the story was fantastic, the acting was phenomenal, and the characters were so absolutely believable! I was expecting to be wowed when I went to watch Avatar 3D in IMAX, but it didn't just wow me -- it blew me away. The scenery -- from creatures to trees, mountains, and plants -- were simply breathtaking. Everything, especially the Na'vi, was so incredibly realistic. I thought it was cliché when I read reviews saying that film making will never be the same again after what Cameron achieved in Avatar. But now that I've watched it I couldn't agree more. I especially recommend that you watch it in IMAX. Having the large screen really makes a difference in appreciating the amazing 3D effects and feeling immersed in the movie. MOVIE WIN! :)

It was better than the standard screen, but I was disapointed. I would go as far as to say that we didn't get the IMAX Experience on this that everyone raves about. The imaging was only average depth and the glasses were cheesy recyclables instead of the wrap around IMAX 3D's I have seen in the past. Will probably go see the RealD version to get better perspective, but only because THIS MOVIE ROCKS! Kudo's to Cameron, the caste and the CGI wizards. I hope it will be a trilogy to remember.

We watched this one for the first time on IMAX 3D. The visuals and the lighting effects are wonderful. My 17 year old thought the movie started a little slow, but I was caught up in the story from the beginning. Story line includes not only romance and action, but a spiritual adventure taking us through introspection of who we are and our place on this earth.

Loved the action and the new 3D Tech.
It was like Star Wars on Steroids!
The story line was predictable and choppy!
Alot of time was spent in action that could have been used to smooth out the storyline some.
It was still awesome, and the same theme that big business or government runs over anything or anyone for the almighty dollar, and this time the little guy wins.
I'll watch it again, just for the rush!
I was glad they kept if family friendly, good for kids, age 8 & up in my opinion.

I've based all of my critques of sci-fi/fantasy movies with 2001 as my standard. I'm still leaving 2001 as my all time best, but this picture is totally mind blowing. The acting is very good - not great, the story is excellent, but the special effects are indescribable.
This time we are told a story about man's inhumanity to man from another world. We are conquistadors searching for gold on another planet without regard to the indiginous people living in harmony with their environment.
This film is a visual experience that cannot be missed.

My recommendation is to see this movie in 3D IMAX. It is well worth the price. It is a long movie but that is not a problem in any regard. The special video and audio effects are excellent. THe casting was superb. Seeing the movie was an exceptional experience and I plan to view it again. It is rare that I can say that about other movies.

The 3D IMAX version of this movie was fantastic. At times early on, I found myself rolling my eyes at the cliched dialog. There were the predictable exchanges of trite writing from somewhat expected characters...the muscle-head military leader, the female head of science department who resents the military involvement. As the movie went on, though, the writing got better & I got lost in the amazing effects and storyline. I'm not a huge sci-fi fan, but this was a movie I would have been sorry to miss in the theater.

This is the second time I have seen Avatar. After seeing it in Digital 3D I had to see it in IMAX 3D and frankly I was disappointed. While Avatar is the most technologically advanced movie ever made, the clarity and depth of the 3D is not as effective in the IMAX format. If you have never seen the movie, don't pay extra for IMAX, but definitely watch it in the Real 3D format. You will feel like you are on Pandora experiencing the movie in person.
