Visually, this is an incredible film to watch though probably 1/2 to one hour too long. The 3D is truly amazing. However, the story is lame. At points I was wondering if I was watching Dances With Wolves or Pocahontas. The story is very corny, and gets more so as the film goes on. It's also sunk by a number of one dimensional characters -military guy - bad, corporate guy - evil. Even the scientist wasn't a well developed character. Is there anyone who couldn't have predicted how the last hour of this film would play out? Also interesting to see the Roger Dean Yes album cover artwork come to life as the floating mountains.

There are precious few times where the actual event lives up to the hype. Avatar lived up to all of my expectations and more. Cameron has really outdone himself and raised the bar for all other movie makers. The story was a little formulaic but the stunning set designs and visual effects will make you forget all about that. Spend the extra couple of dollars to see it in Imax. Well worth it.

Despite having too many layered themes, Avatar is visually phenomenal! It is beyond anything that has ever graced a movie screen since the birth of movie making. James Cameron has pushed the envelope and has successfully altered the cross between animation and the human actor. He has set the bar extremely high. Movies will never be the same.

Simple but well organised storyline, but who cares, this movie could just as well not have had a story at all because the visuals are

AWESOME!!!
whatever you do, do NOT see this movie in 2D, spend the money and go to an IMAX 3D even if it means driving 50 miles to get there, skip the popcorn, your jaw will be on the floor most of the time anyway...
This years Oscar for special effects might as well only have one nominee... I'm sure District 9 will be in it, but this just blows "simple" stuff like that out of the water...

Avatar was one of the most spectacular Imax fantasy movies I've ever seen. The graphics and 3D puts you right into every scene. Even though the plot was predictable from early in the movie, the visual effects keeps you enhanced. The movie is a bit long and they probably could have shortened it about 20 minutes. I'm sure we'll be seeing lots more 3D Imax movies.

Avatar is one of the few movies that I would see again. The story and character development was solid and the special effects were dazzling. This is one of those movies that will set the tends for other movies that will follow. The IMAX 3D experience was simply the best I have ever seen.

Unlike some. I believed in the hype. I wanted it and it delivered. True, I could have been terribly disappointed. You walk through Pandora, you fly through the air, you fall in love with the place and the characters. I was sad when it was over. BRILLIANT! 2 hours 40 minutes and $15 well spent!

I loved that Avatar was long - it took its time setting the scene and putting all the players into context before fully introducing the conflict. Every minute was visually stunning. Excellent. My first IMAX in a long time, my first 3D ever - both were excellent additions to the experience. Top notch.

Same story that has been told in hollywood for years. Beautiful scenery but nothing unique in the story or acting or movie. Cameron more interested in fx than telling a story. Surprised he couldn't find more places to put his name. In a town of egos he dwarfs the competition.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The action packed story was more than I thought it was going to be in so many ways. The ads for this grabbed me, but they left so much to the imagination! Once parts of the movie started to reveal themselves, I thought, "this couldn't get any better!" Great flick! I literally cannot remember the last time I saw a movie that covered the bases like this one.

Went to the Paramus NJ, AMC. Dirty, filthy would explain the condition of the theater. They let infants into the movie, very noise. I was very happy not to have been sitting next to a child crying for 150 minutes.
Avatar is worth the $15 fee.

I highly recommend paying the extra cost to see Avatar in IMAX 3D. The experience is unparalled. There are no surprises in the story, so the special effects are the only reason to see this movie. It takes full advantage of IMAX and 3D.

Awesome........It was our anniversary and she wanted dinner and a movie. The dinner was romantic but not filling, the movie wasn't too romantic and left me wanting the sequel. The story was a sci-fi, action, fantasy romance. It worked together.
Avatar 2 will probably come out with the mining company trying to retake their mine.........

Movie was well done. 3D affects were pretty amazing. Story line was good, but predictable. IMAX 3D glasses definitely make you feel a bit queasy at the end. Overall, a definite must see, especially if you can get into an IMAX to see it!

Being subjected to the carefully orchestrated hype by the advertising for this film, frankly I expected it to be a disappointment, like so many other over-hyped films.
I was quite wrong, I am happy to admit.
This film is astounding, mind-numbingly fantastic. Not only is there a multi-layered plot line of significance, but also, the production technology is remarkable!
The AMC-Columbia IMAX theatre itself is a disappointment, given the small IMAX screen and some other limitations.
But the film easily transcends that limitation. It is hard to categorize it.
There is no doubt in my mind, however, that it is a modern day masterpiece.

One of my most enjoyable movie experiences. James Cameron is more than "gifted" in pulling this together. IMax 3D price is well worth it for this demonstration of movie technology. My son would say the story line is predictable... True. But who cared?!
