Although the movie plot is basically the same as "Dances with Wolves" and any other that "discovered" the Native Americans were actually real people, this movie was the best of them all. Being part Lakota myself, that's saying something.
The special effects were so well done that the interaction between reality and CGI was almost seamless. After a while it was difficult to remember what was real and what wasn't.
The mix of the planet Pandora's flora with Earth's rainforests and tropical ocean animals (jellyfish, coral polyps, bioluminescence) was astounding.
I saw this movie in IMAX 3D twice and drove 2 hours each way to see it both times. It was more than worth the drive.

Great in IMAX 3-D!!!! Their imagination ran wild in this movie creating creatures, scenes, machinery. Great effects!

a bit too long, but amazing 3D special effects. I saw it in 2D first, and the IMAX experience was well worth going back. I loved the flying sequences...really made me feel like I was a participant.

A movie like this only comes around once in a decade. My son and I have seen it twice and both times in IMAX 3d. It's more than a movie, it's a nearly 3 hour ride.

I went to see Avatar in 3D on the IMAX screen. This was my first 3D and IMAX experience. It was amazing. I jumped in my seat a few times because some of scenes were right in my face. Even if you take away the 3D and IMAX experience it is still a great movie with great action scenes and good story line. But, I am recommending to everyone that I know to go ahead and go for the IMAX 3D experience because it adds to it and makes it a very memorable experience.

This is an historic avievement in the realm of cinema! A breakthrough in Special effects. The 3D is amazing but not intrusive. The plot is secondary to the movie's magic. A must see for all students of film.

This is the first film in a very long time that I did not check my watch once and it is almost a 3 hour movie! Great story line and the effects are amazing. Nothing like an Imax experience in 3D! Well worth the time and money for this one!

The dialogue writing, the visuals and the pace are superb. But the movie suffers from far too many cardboard characters and predictable plot lines. The characters who hate in other in the beginning become best friends, the weaker in the battle will win, the head of the company funding is greedy and cares not about people, the military leader is all blood lust. And how can someone grow in size so much and still handle human weapons? But those are plot issues. The dialogue, acting and filming are truly fantastic. It's well worth seeing, but it's a shame more creativity and sophistication wasn't factored into the plot.

This is a fabulous movie. The story line is ok but the imaginary world, the colors, the creatures, the action, the animation - absolutely over the top. I could see this again in a hearbeat! This is a must see on a large screen - preferably IMAX and 3D.

I thought this was a really good movie.
Some of the 3D effects were quite good, but after the first hour my eyes were hurting. I'm not sure where the problem is, but I would have preferred to see it in plain-jane 2D.

This movie is truly an experience to remember!!! I stepped out of it, and I wanted to go right back in. It is such an immersive movie that the 2:40 feels like an hour. It gives you everything you would ever want in a movie, and then goes that much farther.

This was an extremely good movie to see. It had an excellant story line to support the fantastic special effects of the movie. The display of colors was phenominal, there were striking shades of every color of the rainbow and the effect enhanced the show tremendously.

This was the second time I saw Avatar. It was just as good, if not better than the first time. The special effects are wonderful, but do not overshadow the story. It was good to see Sigourney Weaver back on the screen. Everyone was very well cast. The story line is amazing. I could probably even see it a third time.

This is now on my Top 10 list, and will purchase for my library. Absolutely the best special effects ever. Story line was definitely family friendly, except for the violence. Too bad it takes a war, as usual, to make changes.
