I'm afraid that I'll be spoiled for "regular" (non IMAX 3D) movies! It was like actually being in the movie with all the action, gorgeous colors, animals,etc. It took movies to a new level, and we all thoroughly enjoyed it!

Everyone is flocking to see this film because of the great special effects, displays of the battle scenes and life of another world are spectacular. But it's more then that, the characters are believable, you see displays of emotion; anger, joy, betrayal, sympathy. You forget that they are CG characterizations.

First movie I every paid to see twice. First saw the movie in regular version and then, went back for the 3-D IMAX version. I think the 3-D glasses take away from the splendor of the movie.

The expressions Cameron creates on the blue alien lifeforms are worth the price of a ticket. The story and action are an extra added bonus. It's a love story, a fantasy adventure, and science fiction all rolled into one. Classic themes as well as modern ones. You will never go wrong seeing this movie - no matter how many times you go to the theater. It's 2:40 long and I only wish it was longer!!

I seriously thought 3D movies were only a gimmick. Then I saw Avatar. WOW. I don't know what to say, besides just go see it for yourself! Note: spend the extra time/money and get to am IMAX 3D theatre for this one; you won't be disappointed.

I've only seen a few films on IMAX and was not happy with the premium price IMAX entails but saw Avatar for 2nd time on IMAX (first time was 3D) and this is superior, really great 3D immersion and totally crystal clear images. Great film, deserves Best Picture of 2009! JC does it again.... Saw this on Plaza Bonita in National CIty CA, cheapest IMAX in SD county but great.

Saw in IMAX 3D (The only way to really see it!) Phenomenal 3D. Depth is incredible. Flying scenes especially well done. Exciting movie with a familiar ending. (Little overly done). Definitely worth seeing more than once, just for the experience. Must lose some lustre when not in IMAX. Special effects unbelievable. You can almost feel that YOU are in the movie. No arrows coming out of the screen like in the 50's 3D, but new technology is fantastic! Going back soon to see it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A slightly larger screen does not constitute the" IMAX experience". Unless you are going to a legit IMAX theater (real wide screen that kind of makes you sick to your stomach in flying scenes - you know the one), save your money and see it in 2D. 3D is not as sharp and is actually a distraction.
But from a movie history perspective, you must see this film. It ushers in the beginning of the next step in film making. Sure the plot is boring and full of new age hyperbole but the visual and sound advancements alone make this an important film. Eventually a great story is going to be paired with this form of movie making and it is going to be trans formative.

I think my title sums it all up. The movie no doubt has great graphics and visual effects; but the core of the story is so plain jane - many moviews have been built on the same theme if not the exact story. The end is specially disappointing as it basicaly presents a stereo typical happy ending... Again, I think the movie is really good and worth seeing but no great plot here. Also, I think that in 10 years, most moviews will be done in 3D environments like the ones in Avatar (trail blazing technology)

The only way to see this movie is in IMAX 3D! It's worth the price and the wait. Amazing special effects, as usual, but...and here's the caveat...a little too much "preaching" for my taste. The "tribal Indian" connection is VERY obvious, as is the unmistakeable environmental message. Enough preaching, already, just tell me a story! All in all, a great movie-going experience and not to be missed, in spite of the messages.

Awesome graphics, anamation, colorations...great imagination. Good story, but a little heavy on the environmental message. If you're prone to motion sickness, and I'm not, sit very far back for the 3D IMAX. I was too close, and it made me just a little queasy. But, a perfect movie for 3D...made the fantasy come to life and made you feel like you were right there with them. I'll have to see it again, but not so close to the screen.

I first saw Avatar in 2d format. Thought it was an excellent movie and I was glad to see it - but knew that the 3d version would be cool so bought tickets online for the 3d IMax version. It was like seeing the movie for the first time. This was the best 3d experience of all movies I have ever watched. What a cool movie. Even people who normally don't dig fantasy scifi type movies should see this just for the visual effects. The 3d was so good that you forgot you were watching through 3d glasses it just felt natural.

After seeing Avatar in 3-D in the IMAX theater, I can't tell you how much I would recommend it to others. Not only were the special effects and the story outstanding but there was a tremendous moral theme in there...that a quest for precious metals isn't worth destroying the environment. The characters and the world in which they lived or operated is very plausible as I believe there may very well be worlds like those in the vastness of space. HOORAH!!!

Simply the best story for most age groups in 2009. There is significant violence and blood so young children should not attend. The IMAX 3D experience is beyond what most movie fans have ever experienced. The sound system is nearly overpowering when combined with the 3D visuals on the huge IMAX screen and the brilliantly clear HD. Prepare to feel slightly induced vertigo, like an E-ticket ride, for several minutes until your own 5 sences acclimate to the experience. Then sit back and just be witness to the story. Wow!
