The movie visually was great but the story seemed like "last samuri" in space. 3d element helped give the film added visual depth and did not distract. After attending comic-con and seeing 20 min. back in July I Was dissapointed in the predictable story line. All and all I give it a 6 out of 10.

I literally had to back to the theater 3 times just to see the movie cuz it was sold out every time. I am so glad that I decided to go back and waited an hour and half to see it! Definitely worth the money and effort!

The bad:
It has a formula plot, and the dialogue is cheese and the dialogue is not great by any means.
The good:
The colors are amazing, the 3d is absolutely fantastic and engrossing, and the way everything looks so lifelike is remarkable.
Overall: If you like action, beautiful scenery, a bit of a love story, and amazing technology in movies, you will want to go see this in 3D in the IMAX like I did.

I am not much in viewing a movie 2,3 and 4 times; however, this will be a movie that I could watch over and over and over. There is so much to see. Plot is a little simple and predictable but put together with effects it is super!

This was a spectacular film; definitely created for IMAX 3D. The plot is pretty standard, but the production is fantastic, and the individual elements of the characters and settings are unique and creative. I really enjoyed this film!

I saw this movie not in 3D IMAX before hand and then went back and saw it in 3D IMAX, it was truly different movie, and it was not like your normal 3D movie. It gives more of a perception feel, like what is closer and farther away from you, so ultimately this movie is the best of 2009/2010!

I loved the Avatar concept. Otherwise the plot was oversimplistic to say the least- pocahontas in the 22nd century- but it was a thoroughly charming fairy tale. District 9 gave a much better, morally complex rendition of a similar theme but this movie had likeable protagonists, fun "bad guys", if rather one-dimensional and a good tight story line. No slow parts in a 3 hour movie. And the visuals were every bit as spectacular as they say. It wasn't the 3D that blew me away, although that was great, but the beauty of the creatures and the scenery. Incredibly detailed and creative.

This movie in 3D jumps out at you. The colors are beautiful and computer graphics make things look so realistic - it was hard to tell which was actually the real thing or computer generated. And seeing it on IMAX was even better. I would see it again.

James Cameron has done it once again. He is brilliant and it is truly your pleasure when you watch his movie. The imaginative details are astonishing. I watched the movie in IMAX 3D. There is simply no other way to watch the movie and do it justice. It is a drama/action movie with a romantic undertone, something for everyone in the family (age appropriate, of course). The film makes you feel as though Pandora and the Na’vi clan are a reality, not an animated civilization. The plot is not complicated but extremely entertaning. The movie is a pleasure for the senses. Cameron's ground breaking advances in Titanic set the stage for the digital effects in movies that followed and this will do the same.

As purely visual experience, it was incredible to see. The 3D affect makes you feel immersed in the world of Pandora, in fact maybe too much so; I felt dizzy in some of the scenes. The story on the other hand, was basic on the verge of simplistic. All in all, it did what a good movie is supposed to do: entertain.

The movie was visually stunning and the 3D only made it better. The 3D effects were used to enhance the background not the usual just "jump out at you" stuff. While I fould the plot a little heavy handed the over storyline was touching and clear. I enjoyed this movie. But, it is no Star Wars.

I've read the glowing reviews prior to seeing this on the IMAX in 3D. I was prepared for a letdown as often happens with a film with this much hype. I read most critics loved this film despite almost seemingly not wanting to like it. I was aware going in that there were flaws with the plot.
This is a film that is not to be missed on the big screen (IMAX if you can). The plot flaws are forgiveable, being overshadowed by a compelling story and of course groudbreaking special effects. The acting (sounds strange with the CGI hybrid that they do in this film) of Neytiri played by Zoe Saldana is noteworthy.
This is a remarkable film most will find hard not to enjoy.

For an old geezer I was totally amazed at the technology of the movie. All of my family went, including sons, daughter-in laws, grand kids and wife and we all were singing the praises after the movie. It's mind boggling to me how much the technology has come since Star Wars.
The story line was an old one but it's hard to come up with a new one that someone hasn't come up with before. That certainly wasn't a determent. I wish I had more grand kids so I'd have an excuse to see it again. Maybe I will anyway. 3D is the only way to see it I'm thinking.

I agree. Don't concern yourself with reviews from legitimate critics. All too often, they seem to forget the enjoyment/fun factor. At least that's why I go to the movies. To have fun. Part of the plot has been seen before but it definitely has a new twist. If you missed that, you might want to see it again and this time, pay attention. Oh, and can't wait for 3-D ready t.v.s to come out...I will be first in line. This new technology in beyond amazing. I could swear I saw some leaves from the trees fly right in front of my knees.

If this movie had Shostakovitch's music, I would have thought that it was commissioned by Stalin.
The plot is pure dog xxxxx, but the 3D effect of the Imax is great. The sound is criminally unrealistic and loud enough to cause permanent damage to your hearing.
There are much better alternatives to experience the 3D of IMAX - the upcoming NASA movie should be a blast.
