Never in my lifetime have I experienced a movie as great as this. It's surpassed any movie I've seen tenfold. You have to see it in an IMAX theater in 3D.

The special effects are fantastic, especially in IMAX 3D. The story however is very simplistic and if you've seen Fern Gully or Pocahontas, there will be NO surprises at all. I had an idea of how the movie was going to end before I even sat down in the theater and Avatar basically road on rails straight to the conclusion I pictured. I wouldn't rate this with Dances with Wolves as it's often compared to, but it's a solid movie and very easy for kids to understand if you don't mind non-explicit violence and some language.

Just saw this for the second time and it was just as amazing as the first! Characters, dialog, storyline, digimation all created a great entertainment experience.
One note on the 3D IMAX version...get to the theater early to get a good seat. You may experience some nausiogenic effects if you're close to the front of the screen. My date said it was hard on the eyes and started to get a headache until she adjusted the position of the 3D glasses so the arms of the glasses sat about an inch above her ears. We sat in the 3nd row from the front.

This movie was jaw-dropping.
Very interesting and deep story presented in breath-taking form.
I went with my 10 year old son. He loved it too.
It wasn't too graphic for him.
He didn't catch the full meaning of the story, but I explained it to him.
It was the IMAX 3D version which I recommend the most.

As a lifelong sci-fi aficionado and devotee, I am accustomed to being somewhat disappointed with futuristic movies as they fall short of the images in my head. Not so with Avatar - this movie both surprised and satisfied on virtually all levels. There is a wee bit of Hollywood in certain parts, but never enough to cast any aspersions on the film at large... this was a great movie. Great job by James Cameron.

Hollywood has taken a quantum leap forward in the productioon of AVATAR. This is possibly an "animation", but it is so well done that it doesn't make a difference! The storyline is classical and historical with interwoven sub-plots that would appeal to every adult. I saw it for the first time in a normal movie theater, and had to see it again in 3D IMAX. It is truly a different and amazing experience that gives credit to its producer and the film making industry.
Go for it!

My wife and I were blown away by the special FX. This movie raises the bar so high technologically, I'm not sure how it can be topped. I found the story line good and my wife who hates Sy-Fy found it acceptable. This is one of the few movies I would pay to see again in the theater. DO NOT MISS THIS IN 3D!!

Apart from the political messages in Avatar, this is a fantastic movie. The action is intense, there's humor, the characters are very well developed, and the graphics are awe inspiring. The storyline is very well done as well and has twists and turns and has a great finish. Why this movie is so awesome is that James Cameron took time to create a quality film, whereas most movies nowadays are made for a quick profit. When emotion and the right motivations are put into a movie then a good film is the result. I hope more films as quality as Avatar come out in the future.

This movie was absolutely beautiful -- visually and emotionally. Although I'm sure it is a great movie in "normal" 2D, I can't imagine not seeing it in 3D. The lush scenery and amazing living things on Pandora truly astound you watching them in 3D and the battle scenes are incredibly vivid.
Beyond the stunning graphic effects, the movie has amazing messages about interconnectedness, war, and nature to impart and does it without making you feel like you're being lectured to.

I saw the movie originaly in 3D and saw it again yesterday at the IMAX. I defintely enjoyed the IMAX experience more although for the cost savings there wasn't that much difference. As for the movie I have enjoyed it both times and I think James Cameron and his team made a great movie that will set the bar for future movies of this kind. Great visual effects and an intelligent story.

This is a movie driven primarily by its visual effects, which are completely stunning. The storyline is more fantasy than sci-fi, since the key science (biological avatars for our conscious minds) requires major suspension of disbelief. Like many films of this genre, the story also plays on exaggerated stereotypes about the military, science, native cultures, nature, and commercial enterprise. Some violence and gratuitous use of expletives may make film inappropriate for small children. Overall, a must see for action and sci-fi/fantasy film lovers, but no match for the power and drama of the original Star Wars series or the compelling narrative of Cameron's Titanic.

Despite the unapologetic socio-political message of anti-industrial-military complex, the cinematography was outstanding and there were some very enchanting moments in this film. Please understand before you see this movie that it is unabashedly propaganda.

I had heard Avatar was a bit cheesy and of an overdone theme. But the visuals were stunning and battles dramatic. Maybe I felt more of a love for the planet than the characters, but it was still entertaining, and extra worth it to spring for the 3D IMAX experience - especially with the comfy seats for such a long movie!

I've seen a lot of movies, and a few in 3D. This was my first IMAX, and I'll never be able to see a movie any other way.
The visuals were simply stunning, to the point where you cannot tell what is computer rendered and what is live action. The movie is even better than the visual, though: the story moves quickly and doesn't rely on twists and turns. Not enough credit is given to the actors, especially when they are behind the computer effects.
Simply put, this may very well be the greatest movie ever made. Hopefully it won't take Cameron another four years. I say forget the banks and give James Cameron $700 billion, and see what he comes up with next!

The animation was great, but the story was entirely TOO SLOW. Lots of political undertones that were not necessary, but to be expected from Hollywood. It was distracting from the story. If they shaved off an hour it would have not been as much of a let down.

This movie had a good story and good characters, but GREAT cinematography. The scenery and action were fabulous. It felt like you were right there with them, like you could reach out and touch the plants as well.
We also found ourselves forgetting that his avatar was not really him. The story had a good 'hook' as well.
We definately suggest paying extra to see the IMAX version, although I'm sure the standard 3-D version is just as good.
Well Done James Cameron!

Best action movie I've ever seen. See it on I-Max for the maximum effect. My wife hates long movies and said it felt like she was there for 5 minutes. This film will probably be the #1 grossing film for quite some time.

People are complaining about the plot. Okay, its not Citizen Kane, but it is not trying to be. It is the best technological achievement to date for 3D, CGI, and animation. I saw it in a packed house, and only three people went to the restroom the whole time. No talking, no distractions from the crowd. Everyone was watching, and enjoying the adventure and the experience. I hope Cameron sells a 3D TV to go with the eventual disc. Buy your ticket online, or you will never get in the theater. Glad I did.

Very impressive movie. My wife and I watched twice. The second time, we watched 3D IMAX version. We might had too high expectation for 3D version. Anyway, I dont think Avatar is specifically designed for 3D. Overall, it is a great movie, it is ok if you miss the 3D version.

This movie was amazing! I had a little trouble with the realistic movement in the beginning (kinda Blair Witch Project nausea) but overall, the 3-D effect was unbelievable! I would definitely go see this movie more than once!

I thought the story and theme was a touching and interesting sequence. The action and special effects in 3D were amazing and very well done. I would go to see this movie again.
I especially loved the imaginary biological part of the relation of the forest to the people and animals that lived there. the theme of "living" with the environment rather than destroying and
looting it was gripping and sad.
