What the movie lacks in original story and character development it wholly makes up for visually. One thing--you MUST--I repeat, MUST--see this in an IMAX 3D theater. I have never been so blown away by anything on a screen as I was with Avatar 3D in IMAX.
A must-see. James Cameron deserves every penny of the trillions he is sure to make off this masterpiece.

Yes, it's 2 hours and 40 minutes. Do you notice, only if you try.
Yes, the visual effects are beyond stunning. You feel like you are there. Not like your stuck in a rerun of "Toy Story" with a latte making groundhog. It's like you walked out of the theatre and into another world. The story is neutral enough that only a few won't like it. There is a deeper message that upon leaving the theatre was evident that it was missed by most. I guarantee I will recommend it and guarantee I will see it again. In IMAX 3D.

I was impressed with the images and the 3D that has grown into something beyond what I ever thought it would. The movie was very entertaining and had a great plot. The whole experience was more than you can imagine in Imax 3D. Go out and see this movie in IMAX 3D and you won't be disappointed.

I have seen the movie twice, once in regular definition and once in IMAX 3D. I was a little let down by the IMAX 3D experience. I was expecting to feel like I was in the movie the entire time and that just did not happen. The sound in IMAX was truly amazing though. This is the Star Wars on this generation and should be seen by all.

The visuals elevate this movie to a better than average rating but the story lacks originality in many areas. In many ways this movie has an '80s feel in the way the characters are portrayed and the simplistic conflicts that have been set up. How about conflict as complicated as the world that has been created? It is truly original and deserves a big story but not one we've seen before. There are truly breathtaking moments in this movie and it is worth seeing for those but the story is somewhat disappointing. Thank you, James Cameron, for advancing the state of the art but maybe you could give the guys from Lost a chance to write the story.

shave 30-40 minutes off the thing. Don't ask me how, but 2 hours and 40 minutes is too much for me. Overall, great flix, but went from great to good (as do far too many big production movies) somewhere after the 2 hour mark.
BTW, the worst "good movie gone bad" was the 3rd Lord of the Rings movie. Good god, thought that one was done and there was another whole hour (seemed like) of those midgets with the nasty feet crying and smiling at each other.

I don't even like Sci-fi but this movie was so amazing that I'm going to see it again! The animation is breathtaking, the 3D makes you feel like you are right there with the characters on a different planet, and the 2hrs40min feels more like a 10min rollercoaster ride! You'll definitely walk out of the theater totally pumped! This movie must be seen on a big screen though, that's half of what makes it amazing!

This movie has a good plot, was intense and visually, what can I say? Wow! The 3D was so well done it was like I was there - none of those gimicky pokes or sprays; just really well done. I hope to see more movies with this technology! If you want to see it in IMAX, make sure the screen size is decent though. Mine was just a normal sized screen...

Visually stunning, but must be seen in 3D to be part of the action. James Cameron has done it again but this time he’s defied the odds by adopting cinematic technology that will take your breath away…that is if you let it. Previous reviews tend to address the storyline as way too far to the left on the tree hugger scale. OK, so it’s fantasy meets SciFi, meets Pocahontas, meets Dances with Wolves. I say go to the movies with no preconceived notions, except to let the experience take you to a wonderful place….hell…that’s why we go to the movies to get entertained…right. Well Jim brings you that entertainment and in spades…so enjoy! If I can steal another day from work I’ll be back again.

Ok, so this movie ranks very highly, I didn't give it the 5 stars because there were a few small plot holes, but they are only early in the movie and once you get past them the rest flows easily together.
All the actors did a fantastic job, and it showed. The badguy, did a perfect job of being a bad guy. He was someone I couldn't wait to see get killed.

not a single complaint! i have never seen a film that was a combination of being visually stunning, and experiential, like this one. the 3D experience allowed me to be in the movie. i rarely am so compelled to see a movie again right away, but i will see this again very soon! the "cherry on top" is the strong moral message of peace that it promotes!

I am hard to please when it comes to movies, but this was not just a movie! To me and my husband, this was an experience unlike anything we've ever experienced before! We are planning to go see it again next week and I've told practically everyone I know they HAVE to go see it! I saw it in 3D Imax and highly recommend seeing it that way! You will feel as though you are there being a part of it! LOVE IT!

Wow, I have not felt this emotion since Star Wars in 1979, this movie was very intense, my Heart never stopped pounding, the adrenaline rush was so amazing, highly emotional, I cryed, I cheered, I laughed, it must be seen in Imax 3D, for the full intensity of being with the film, better than New Moon, or any other movie I have seen this year, A MUST SEE FILM....LOVED, LOVED, LOVED IT. This was undoubtedly one of the best theater experiences of my life. I couldn't tell where the "people" left off and the comuter animation began...it was seamless. This is one movie I would not only recommend to everyone, I will also be seeing it many more times myself!!

This movie had me sitting on the edge of my seat through out. I was so riveted to the 3D effects that I kept missing my mouth with my popcorn. I finally gave up on the popcorn!
Going to the restroom was never an issue.
I wasn't going to leave my seat nor take my eyes off of the screen.
The next day, I got my money's worth at my chiropractor visit!!!!!!
