Beginning is somewhat slow but gets better . Downey is great! True.... the dialogue is difficult to hear sometimes but overall the plot is good. There is enough action and set design with all the black and grey is expressive.. I think rachel McAdams was miscast. Kiera McKnightly would have been better. I love Rachel but she doesn't have enough edge for the role.

I thought the movie was great. The action was good and the style was original. It was difficult to understand Robert Downey Jr. a few times because of his accent, but I think that was part of his character and the accent that he was playing. Overall a really good movie and definitely worth see!

Saw Sherlock Holmes last night and as an aficionado of Conan Doyle’s works and movies 'resembling' them, I say, Good Show, Holmes! Downey surprised me with an excellent portrayal of Doyle’s Holmes, and Law's Watson was not the bumbling idiot of the Nigel Bruce gendre, but as Doyle depicted. As Irene Adler, McAdams is too cutesy to be convincing, although she tries. If you gave me Cate Blanchette, I would have been in Holmes heaven. As the heavy, Mark Strong's Lord Blackwood was convincing, yet seemed to be an imitation of Max Schreck in 'Nosferatu", instead of an English lord gone wrong. But it worked, gave us a night of entertainment and I would definitely see it again. (If only to catch more of the mumbled dialogue between Downey and Law)

Enough action, good charecter development and sufficient nod to the original spirit of the story. Loved it. Perfect holiday fare - something for everyone. Good set up for follow up films. Guy Richie did an amazing job of directing.

Months of hype and commercials had me really excited to go and see this one. I've been a Holmes fan for most of my life, and couldn't wait to see Downey's take on the character. The first half of the movie found me trying to stay awake, and the second half is so packed with effects that they forgot to include a plot. Overall, a very well made movie (effects and acting), but the storyline is so weak that it's not worth the time.

This was a good solid movie. I would suggest this to a friend. The story line was very good and the fan of Sherlock Holmes literature would like this movie. If you don't understand who Sherlock Holmes is or his escapades you might find it hard to follow. It was a very good adaptation of old literature coming alive in the present time frame. Special effects were good.

Excellent! Loved the energy, the excitement and would highly recommend others to see it. Loved the flawless chemistry between Robert and Jude. What a team! Robert in "Iron Man" just blew me away and now he is the Sherlock of the Future! Kudos to you Robert! As for Jude Law, he gave Watson that sexy edge. A "Butch-n-Cassidy" edge! This role suit him like a clove. Sherlock Holmes is a roller coaster ride from the beginning with no end. A ride I'd like to get on again and again! I normally don't see a film twice, but for this one, I'd make the exception!. I believe we will see more of Sherlock Holmes in the not to distance future! I smell a sequel!!!!!! Thanks Guy Richie. As always, an excellent Director ;-)

Mediocre at best. Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. had pretty good interaction, but the script was stilted. The action was OK, but the plot was BORING. I liked reading Sherlock Holmes to try to figure out the "Who Done It" but this film left nothing to the imagination. You could figure out the plot after the first 20 minutes.

Overall, the movie was good, but...nothing TOO special. I was expecting more from the whole movie and the ending was a LITTLE disappointing. I'm not sure if they left room for the sequel or if that's just it (this movie by the way is based on the 4th Sherlock book. Each book is at least 3 months apart from what I have heard from a reliable source). The characters where DEAD on with the portrayals of their characters as told from the Sherlock books. The action was pretty good, comedy part was alright, the way the movie was shot was very impressive, and not to mention pretty realistic as well. An overall fun experience at the theaters with your friends but nothing special enough to purchase when it comes out on DVD.

If you've seen the movie trailer,then you have seen the "high points" of this film. Wait for it to come out on video and rent the movie instead.
Seemed to lack continuity in the flow of the movie, instead jumping around quite a bit. Never expanded upon the historical aspect of the relationships between characters and, therefore, lacked depth. The movie definitely required no thinking of the person watching it because of this.
Fell short of expectations.

I loved this movie. The special effects, humor between the characters and the story line were so much fun. I enjoyed everything about it. I was never bored and it kept my attention the whole time. Sometimes it was hard to understand the accents, but I was never lost in the plot and always knew what was going on. Both Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law were amazing actors and Guy Ritchie was an excellent director. Go see it!

A well balanced, although sometimes slow, movie. An offbeat Holmes and Watson, whose charaters are very well represented. The movie is dark and requires close attention to the conversations. Overall I enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone especially those who like Robert Downey Jr, or Jude Law.

Great fun! A smashing blend of action, intrigue, comedy and romance. Costumes were awesome. Set designs were full of interesting details. Story line and scientific support were great. Love RDJ, Rachel and Jude. Would go back to theater to see it again. Might even try the D-Box seats!

We saw this Christmas night and really enjoyed it. It had action, intelligence, funny dialogue, a bit of romance - really something for everyone.
The chemistry between RDJr. and Jude Law was terrific.
It looks like they left it open for a sequel and we are eagerly anticipating that!

I'm a Holmes buff. Liked the movie overall, plenty of good action and a good story line. Don't expect a whole lot of "Sherlock Holmes amazing deductions" - there are some but not at much as you might expect if you've read a lot of Holmes.
Good movie, though, definitely worth seeing and very enjoyable. Note the length and be sure to make a pit stop first!

I found myself looking forward to the Doyle-esque internal monologs that Holmes had, as he sized up his opponents. Unfortunately, far too much of the film was gratuitous action, not thoughtful dialog. It was a worthy interpretation, well executed by the cast, and is worth seeing.

This was a typical Guy Ritchie film - fast paced and tongue in cheek. I need to watch this one again at home without all the distractions of people walking in front of me, because I think the facial gestures of Downy and Law are half the fun. Sort of a Wild, Wild West shot in London. Good fun for all ages.

Sorry, but I thought it was torturous to sit through this movie. The story was hard to follow and Holmes' character was overly "cute" with the dialogue and "I'm so cool and funny" attitude. It probably didn't help that the guy behind me was knocking his knees against the back of my chair and the woman in front of me was checking her iphone constantly (which gives off a blinking light effect).

This movie made a mockery of the true Sherlock Holmes novels. The introduction of so much 'dark magic' was really off-putting and I did not like it that my teenage daughters were exposed to that. The 'fight scenes' got old and I was unsure of the purpose of the boxing additions. I was yawning half way thru and eager for it to be over.

The trailers do not do "Sherlock Holmes" justice.
This is not violence for violence's sake. This is a carefully crafted film with outstanding performances, especially by Jude Law as Watson. We were pleasantly surprised.
