After years of failed attempts to tell the story of Harvey Milk cinematically, they finally got it made. And made right. Gus Van Sant delivers, telling one of the most important (and relatively unknown) chapters in gay history, with elegance and verve. Sean Penn is amazing, as is Josh Brolin (who, following American Gangster and W. is one one hell of a roll). Both Sean and Josh channel the men they play. Brilliant acting and casting. James Franco is understated, and Emile Hirsch is nearly unrecognizable in a surprisingly touching performance. Go see MILK. And bring on the Oscar nominations!

The movie is excellent! It's the first time I have ever seen a movie that has accurately portrayed gay people.
Every actor shines in this movie. Sean Penn is phenomenal in his role and so is Emile Hirsch (who I now have a huge crush on).
What was amazing and terrifying was how in 1977, Prop 6 was the big issue and with Milk leading the way they were able to defeat that discriminatory act. I hope if anything, this movie brings attention to what can be done if you have passion and fight for it.
I loved this movie, and not just because I am a gay man. It tells a story people in younger generations have no idea about, so it's a piece of history that needed to be told. Bravo!
