Not enough praise can be said about this movie. I went in expecting an amazing performance by the late Heath Ledger and was not disappointed. His Joker looked terrifying and his laugh sent chills down my spine. I also though Aaron Eckhart was tremendous in this movie, especially in the latter parts of the film. I do not think he received enough praise for his role in this movie. Finally, I cannot skip Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan. Bale and Nolan saved the Batman franchise and I cannot wait to see the next edition.
If you have the opportunity see this movie on IMAX. It is worth the extra money and really makes the experience more memorable.

...this was a film. This was a cinematic masterpiece. This wasn't your comic book blockbuster like "Spiderman" or "Ironman". This was a film closer to the genre of crime/drama with similarities to films such as "Heat" and even "The Godfather".
This film gave you the impression that all the events CAN happen in reality. There were twists and turns along the way and absolutely NO punches were pulled.
Needless to say, the acting was immaculate. Many could see that Heath Ledgers acting was superb simply form the commercials. He immerses himself in the role so well that you weren't watching Heath Ledger in one of his last pictures, but you were watching The Joker. You believed that he had no empathy, no compassion, no sense of safety for anyone (Especially himself). Every time Joker appears on screen, there is a certain fear going through you knowing something horrible is about to be perpetrated by the hands of the Joker (There is a scene towards the beginning involving a "magic trick" that shows you EXACTLY how sick and sadistic Ledgers Joker will be). Bale once again brings his version of a gritty, out for justice vigilante version of Batman that he debuted in "...Begins" and even manages to add new depth to his character. The same can be said about the rest of the cast. Even actors with smaller roles gave it their all. (Cillian Murphys cameo was done with the same villainous quality as in the previous movie as was a cameo from a certain villain form the movie "Friday").
The cinematography was beautiful. There really is no way else of putting that because anything I can say would be an understatement. The same goes for the story. The Nolans truly outdid themselves. The story and screenplay completely outshined any and every aspect of Batman Begins. And Unlike other Hollywood movies (without giving too much away) not every loose end is tied up. Other superhero movies are simply countdowns to "when ___man will defeat the bad guy". In The Dark Knight, you leave the theater thinking to yourself "Did Batman really win this time?" This is not a "Good guy chasing bad guy" movie. It is a psychological thriller that analyzes Batman's psyche and demonstrates just how much he can endure as Gothams Vigilante and not their "Hero".
Don't walk into this movie expecting your average superhero movie, because this is NOT one of them. This film is MUCH much darker than Batman Begins and may even disturb a few at points. But don't let that detract you from the fact that this movie is truly a work of art. This movie is a cinematic masterpiece by every means of the phrase.
Put simply: WATCH IT NOW!!!!

Some people want to watch the world burn, and that couldn't be more true for Chris Nolan's Joker. He is rotten to the core and doesn't care if he lives or dies as long as his point goes across. The wild card in the film though is Two Face, who showes that there is never two heads on a coin. Batman is good, Joker is bad, but is that really so. Batman wants to save everyone, but can he really. And the Joker's point is to show Batman that everyone is corrupted and chaotic. There's a little Joker in all of us. But will Batman risk everything he's been working for just to avenge someones death. And can the good side of things truely overcome the face of evil.

I go to the movies every week and basically catch anything that is remotely intriguing. The Dark Knight has done something that rarely happens, living up to the hype. Now I'm not saying that I didn't feel like big films like Iron Man (which exceeded my personal expectations) or Transformers were not satisfying, but The Dark Knight is something truly special. It becomesa larger than life event that I truly do believe will not only shape comic book movies, but all films in the future. It WILL get best picture, director, screenplay and supporting actor nominations. From start to finish, you will be completely absorbed in the world that Nolan has created. This film, clocking in at a shade over 2 and 1/2 hours, feels like 1 hour. I could have lived in this world for twice that long. When it is over, you definitely feel like the movie event of the summer is now over. Now this is not to say other good movies like Tropic Thunder and The Mummy won't be good, but legendary, I think not. The Dark Knight is a masterpiece!

This was the best comic book movie I've ever seen. It seemed almost more like an organized crime movie than comic book- I loved it. I plan to see it again while it's in the theater, and I will definitely buy it when it comes out on DVD. GREAT! Go see it!!!

THE DARK KNIGHT is a masterpiece; a film that transcends genre stereotypes and redefines what a well-done comic book film should be. It's 150 minutes of an awe-inducing adrenaline rush that will leave you at a loss of words.
But in a superhero movie?
It certainly doesn't feel like one. In fact, this is more of a crime epic than a comic book film. THE DARK KNIGHT is about escalation; that things must get worse before they get better, and that's what's happening in Christopher Nolan's scarily-real Gotham. No abundance of neon lights and gothic architecture here... this is a Gotham that could stand-in for any major American metropolis today. Well, that is, except for maybe one glaring exception: a certain sociopathic, meniacal clown-faced villain.
The hype generated over Heath Ledger's Joker is perfectly legitimate. His Joker is undoubtedly horrifying, but it's his ethos that makes Ledger's incarnation particularly frightening. Never before has a comic book film seen a villain with such rich psychological depth - this Joker is out to question Gotham's morality and priorities, not kill just for the sake of killing - and that's why the character is so specifically chilling. He's a villain crafted so immaculately that he's among the ranks of cinema's best, putting him in the same formidable breath as Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter and Alex from A CLOCKWORK ORANGE.
Audaciously diving right back into exploring Bruce Wayne and his own ethos in the struggle to fight for good, THE DARK KNIGHT further develops what BATMAN BEGINS created in crafting Batman's origins. Things are certainly escalating in Gotham, and in THE DARK KNIGHT, crap is hitting the fan. It's Batman that is serving as the motivation for the Joker and consequently, the Joker is killing because of him. When people close to Bruce start dying, Nolan brilliantly explores his mental struggle. Does Batman keep fighting for good or does he hang it up before too many people become victim to his campaign? Although the award buzz will likely all go to Ledger, it's Bale that must be credited for an equally spectacular, emotionally-powerful peformance. Bale as Batman is, yet again, an inspired choice, a blessing for the integrity of the character after a paralyzing series of films a decade before. Bale's Batman is the definitive superhero lead of our time, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
Even Aaron Eckhart's Harvey Dent is remarkably captivating. Gotham's "white knight," as they call him, is strangely courageous, summing up the brazen will to fight the mob and pursue the most powerful criminals in Gotham. His rise and fall is fascinating, enchanting, and ultimately quite gruesome. His transformation into Two-Face defines a Shakespearian tragic hero in every sense of the word, and it's Eckhart's fabulous depiction of the character that will draw audiences in to his unfortunate downfall from the savior of Gotham into a vengeful renegade.
THE DARK KNIGHT is the best film of 2008. It's the best superhero film to ever grace the screen. It's a smart, deep, and action-packed thrill-ride that will leave your jaw agape. The gold standard for comic book films has now been set and the bar is higher than ever. It's perfectly crafted modern cinema - a powerful score (it sounds much better and much more effective on screen than it could on any album), brilliant pacing (how many 150 minute films move so quickly?), and expert story-telling all coming together to form a beautiful, resounding cinematical success.
This is a must-see. Actually, see it a few times. Take it all in. Experience the rush that a truly great film can give you. And if you don't like it, I only have one question for you: why so serious?

The Dark Knight was an outstanding film. The Bale Batman is even more believable than in Batman Begins. I love the complete lack of cheesiness that seems to find its way into most in this genre (i.e Spiderman). Realistic character origins are another strong point. It is superbly cast. Freeman and Caine add a certain level of class to anything. Oldman and Eckhart shine. Gyllenhaal did a great job in spite of being a replacement. Ledger's performance, however, is the stuff of legends. Much of the time, the viewer can completely forget who he is. He truly brings the Joker to life. After watching it on the IMAX screen, I wanted to stay and watch it again.

This movie was one of the best I've seen in a while. The IMAX sound was excellent. The glass breaking sounded like it was right next to you. It keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time with non stop action. The plot never dulls and keeps growing until the very end. Heath Ledger put on an oscar winning performance and hopefully he will get a nomination for it. While over two hours long, you never feel like the movie is dragging on and on. I plan on seeing it again in IMAX next weekend.

Forget Spidey, Tony Stark, and even Kal-El. The Dark Knight is the epitome of comic films. It's a crime drama with serious subtext towards today society. The film deserves a Best Screenplay nod at the least, if not BEST FILM. Heath Ledger's family should book tickets to pick up his Oscar next February

This was a spectacular film all around. Great performances, phenomenal sequences, and an unflinching eye aimed directly at the heart of what Batman truly is. Imax is the best way to experience this film.

Batman Begins was the 2nd best comic book movie, only 2nd to V for Vendetta, but now Dark Knight has stepped up and claimed its silver medal. I definitely recommend to all who are up for mature themes and realistic yet surreal epic struggles.

The Dark Knight follows in the tradition of the Empire Strikes Back by being a bigger, deeper, and DARKER movie than the original while still maintaining a sense of continuity with the original film as well as some occasional humor. Its what you'd expect it to be and so much more. A true tragedy and triumph (both off and on screen) all at once.
