i loved the movie, it completely sucked me in. i saw deep and believable characters, hauntingly in the joker. heath ledgers portrayal was mesmerizing, to the point of not being able to tell heath was even below that mask. the story was moving and well presented, centralizing on the time of harvey dent. there were lovely unexpected twists and badass action sequences. all in all, it lived up to the hype. i definitely will watch it again, and i would suggest to anyone who hasn't seen it to go. i went to the imax showing, which only made it even better.

All I can say is that I was drawn into this movie when my son showed me the movie trailer late last year. I knew then that I HAD to see this movie because of Heath Ledger's sampling as The Joker in that trailer. It was an intense, well made made movie. Bravo!!

THE DARK KNIGHT should do for comic book films what THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy did for fantasy and what 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY did for science fiction.
Believe the hype. This is a great film.
Despite our lousy seats (first row, dead center at an IMAX theater--my neck still aches), I was overwhelmed by the tension throughout the entire 2 1/2 hours. The whole cast was fine--Bale is the best Batman ever even if he sounds like he needs a throat lozenge at times--but Heath Ledger was...disturbing. He had to dig somewhere deep for this performance. His tics, his quirkiness, the lizard-like flicking of his tongue, the voice that seems to come from somewhere beyond the back of his throat. Ledger's Joker transcends the script, which aids and abets his characterization by skewing the predictability of his actions. And of the plot. No spoilers here, but prepare to be surprised at least once or twice.
Even the soundtrack by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard is felt more than it is heard, sustaining the suspense and giving The Joker his own off-kilter theme.
An amazing experience from beginning to end.

I expected more of the movie overall I and I thought Ledger would be very good but I was wrong both times. Ledger was exceptional, even for those who may not have liked this movies interpretation of the Joker. The redesign even early on of the Batmans helmet and cowl looked weak and the change later in the movie didnt help. Gyllenhaal unfortunately was weak as well so no one cared about her eventual fate. The raspy voice whenever Batman speaks is getting truly annoying The Villians carried this movie and I really did enjoy it. But I was expecting a much stronger and clear - cause and effect storyline

I thought it was overall pretty good movie. Not the best, but good. Honestly, i hyped myself up allot about it and wasn't totally satisfied. The joker stole the show and did a very good job selling his role, batman was pretty much the supporting actor. Some parts i thought were dragged out and others not elaborated enough. Maggie G. looked about 41 years old instead of 31, and couldn't help squirming whenever i saw her saggy face. There seemed to be allot of characters in the movie that pulled different ways until finally reaching the point of the title about 2 minutes before the ending. In closing, i thought it was very good movie but didn't find myself clapping with the others when it was done.

this movie is amazing! Heath Ledger plays a diabolically amazing role. Most believable in character role since Forrest Gump. As I watched the Dark Knight it evoked in me the same feelings I had when I read the Dark Knight Returns by Frank MIller when I was in High School. The horror of the Joker's actions and appearance, the fight for Good that takes its toll on the Batman/bruce wayne. The city and the feel of Gotham as a place I wouldn't want to be... Wraped up in an in your face rollicking ride that never lets up, building and building to wave after crashing wave of action sequences that were so well done. See the movie and enjoy the experience. The Dark Knight is a great film. I highly recommend it for anyone. The parts of the movie featuring Bruce Wayne or Batman, for the most part weren't as good as Batman Begins though they were still entertaining.
The other major characters were very well done. Gary Oldman was, of course, great. From the first moment we first saw officer Gordon in the first film I knew he was perfectly cast. Aaron Eckhart as district attorney Harvey Dent was surprisingly well done. I had planned to be bored by him. He put on a fine performance and had me very excited about the fate of Harvey Dent.
But every moment that the Joker was on the screen was absolutely fantastic. Heath Ledger is one of the greatest performers of our time and it is a crime that he is no longer with us. He truly became that clown faced psychopath. If I were to compare him to Nicholson's Joker, I would definitely say that Ledger's was the better. I will be seeing this film again.

This is an amazing movie! Great combination of action, drama and just the right amount of humor. Heath Ledger was just incredible; I can't imagine anyone else playing the Joker after his performance. Christian Bale did an excellent job, and of course Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman are always wonderful. It was definitely worth waiting for, and I will see it again in the theater, but after I see "The X-Files"!

Saw the movie at midnight with all the crazed Batman/Joker fans. Many of them wearing their own interpretations of their favorite hero or villain. Apparently many of them had been at the theater since 9pm. So the expectations were incredibly high. At one point the theater even showed the trailer 45 minutes before, with the lights on and sound off and the crowd went crazy. I was concerned, as a huge Batman fan, that this group might be a bit too rowdy and ruin the experience for me. Once the movie theater went black, you could hear a pin drop. At least until the movie started. 2 and half hours later, and my eyes dry from not wanting to blink, I was dumbfounded. This was by far the best Batman movie ever. Awesome action sequences, incredible visual and sound effects (this movie is loud, in a good way.) and unbelievable acting. Bale was great, as always. At little more Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine who both were very good. Maggie Glyennhal and Aaron Eckhart both did fine jobs, but the gold star A++ easily goes to Heath Ledger. He took the best villain, already etched in the public's memory by Jack and turned it into something different altogether terrifying. He's the embodiment of chaos. His voice is all over the place and you really have no idea of what he's gonna do next. Stunning, and I hope he does get an oscar nod. See this film now, it's the most fun you'll have at the movies this year.

I loved this movie. It was well put together and was just amazing overall. Everyone gave an excellent performance as well. I saw it on IMAX and that made the movie I believe a 100 times better!

...but I mean that in a good way. The pace is absolutely relentless. When leaving the theater I thought I had been in Gotham with it's citizens. It's hard to give a review of Batman when the Joker was absolutely incredible. What a shame that Heath Ledger won't be around for the 3rd movie, even if the Joker would only have a small part. This is a dark movie. Two complaints, however, nitpicky: one, I don't think the major characters who died should have and two, near the end I thought we could've done without that whole segment, it seemed to drag it along to what I don't know. Either way, I'll still see it again to catch some nuances I missed earlier.

Nothing comes close to this rendition of the Batman saga! Only through reading back through my library of The Dark Knight graphic novels can I achieve such a high level of completeness in bringing Gotham City and it's inhabitants to life! It was an emotional roller coaster on which I am still swaying back and forth! My heart goes out to all those close to Heath Ledger, his rendition or should I say artistic interpretation of the Joker was superb and without compare! Cheers to everyone behind the scenes! I will be back!

Amazing performances all across the board, ESPECIALLY HEATH LEDGER. Everything about this movie was incredible, from the script, to the acting, the stunning visuals, the music!!!, the stunts, the equipment, the sets... EVERY LITTLE THING, was PERFECT. The only thing I am disappointed about, is that I may NEVER find a movie as AMAZING as this one ever again. See it in IMAX! Part of the movie was filmed with an IMAX camera, so it makes a HUGE difference.

AN UNNERVING MASTERPIECE THAT REQUIRES MULTIPLE VIEWINGS. This is for those of you who are avid film watchers and take it very seriously. Others will only applaud this film as a wonderful work. Avid film watchers will gush. Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight'--well, frankly it tickled the bottom of my cockles. I'm very rarely tickled in that magically hidden place of pleasure (save for many random moments from my fiancé). After watching this film, I can't sum up my feelings for it in one review. I must see it again, and again. I wanted to see it right after I got done watching it, but all showings were sold out at the theater I was at. This movie will kick you in the teeth, figuratively speaking. If in an IMAX theater though, it will at least rattle your teeth as it is booming in those theaters. The acting is superb throughout. The directing, the lighting, the action, the set pieces, the script and plot are great as well. Ledger may be getting his just rewards for his portrayal of the Joker, but I feel the other actors are getting short-shrifted in their praise. They all do very well. Even the swat team members who really have no names in the movie. As for critics and their assertions about the movie? Too dark, too grim and depressing? No, not at all. In fact, it surprised me how far it didn't go in that direction. The graphic novels are a lot more depressing from time to time. A work of art? A masterpiece? Oscar worthy material? Yes. Yes to all three questions. More importantly though, this film is masterfully made work of love. Love for the source material. Love for film, and most importantly love for the human being. We can be soulless creatures every now and then. We can. When the chips are down, however, we show who we really are. Not schemers, not killers. We're human. We do what we have to in order for us to survive. When the chips are down, we will band together.
