Simply put this is the BEST movie ever that was based on a comic book!! Before this Superman II, Spiderman II & Iron Man were the movies I measured other comic book movies too! I totally agree with Director Kevin Smith when he says that this movie is The Godfather II of all comic book movies!
This movie is stunning! It is supsenseful! It has both iconic heroes and villians! Not only will Heath Ledger get the Oscar nomination he will win it!! I also predict that the film itself as well as Director Chris Nolan will be nominated for Oscars! The film is that good!
Although Ledger's performance is an instant classic everyone else in this movie pulls their weight acting wise! It is truly an ensemble piece more than it is simply just a Batman or Joker movie! Gary Oldman is wonderful as Commissioner Gordon.
The IMAX scenes are awesome! To me when they had static scenes of the Gotham & Hong Kong city skylines it was breathtaking!
I could go on and on about this movie but it is easier to say "Just Go See It!!" and see what all the fuss is about!

This is an Amazing movie, and filmed in IMAX truly makes it an experience, and the shots at night of Chicago and Hong Kong are just breath taking and combined with the great audio, IMAX filmed movies will bring me back to the theater to see a movie for the first time in years, I just wish that it was economical and easier to film in IMAX so that all movies could be filmed in IMAX format. Being a student of film and the arts, I have nothing but admiration for the direction that Christopher Nolan has taken the character of "Batman" and his dark and scary world, it's almost like he is channeling the spirit of Akira Kurosawa, giving us "Batman" as the Ronin Samurai with no name defending the village from the outlaws and criminals. And the best part is the film has a good plot that is character driven, not effects driven. And the Joker, what can I say, but Heath ledger has made the Joker one of the scariest characters ever filmed. This movie is Batman for Adults, I wouldn't take a 10 year old to see it, to intense for young kids.

Top to bottom, start to finish, top notch! Christopher Nolan did it again with a haunting depiction of Gotham. The myriad of sub-plots leave the viewer constantly questioning our rolls in humanity and the dark vs. light inherent to human nature. Brilliantly acted by all but the late Ledger stands above the crowd as the demented Joker. Epic screenplay as well. Some in my party thought the first one was better, but I"m on the fence. They're both brilliant! A must see on the big screen (I went to and highly recommend IMAX) Enjoy!

You'll never see another movie in anything else, ever again. This film in and of itself is not only a phenominal masterpiece, but the IMAX experience makes a home run, a complete grand slam. I loved this movie from previews to credits, and would and do recommend it to anyone and everyone. If there is one movie you see in the theatre this year, make sure it's this one. Bale IS Batman/Bruce Wayne, he just doesn't ACT the role, he becomes the role. Caine is superb and Eckheart is PERFECT as Dent. There aren't enough words in the English language to describe how breath taking Ledger was, and I won't even attempt. My inherently flawed human opinion could never do justice the award-deserving role. From soundtrack to cinematography, from length of the feature to the spectacular merging of cgi and costumes/make-up/special effects... This is one of the best movies. Ever.

This was a great movie and was certainly memorable! Theh Imax version is definitely worth the extra few bucks! The action scenes are one of a kind! Even if you are not a comic book lover, you will absolutely love this action packed movie. It definitely out does any other comic movie made to date!

I saw Batman Begins in IMAX and was not impressed because they just blew up the frame. Since they filmed parts of The Dark Knight with IMAX cameras it became much more enjoyable. Definitely see it in IMAX!!!

The visuals were amazing, the action was non-stop, and Heath Ledger was superb as the unhinged personality of the Joker.
The script did get a little preachy, especially towards the end, But this is a minor point in an overall rush of 2 1/2 hours.
See this in IMAX, it is the only way to watch it!

From the stunning visuals, to the breakneck action sequences, to the emotionally charged drama, this film left me speechless and wanting more. Heath Ledger in particular, as has been stated by others, creates a force of nature in the Joker. This film pulls no punches, and many knocked the wind right out of me. Gotham City _was_ my reality for two and one half breathtaking hours, and I hope to return soon.

I didn't see the movie. I purchased the tickets for my nephew and my son. They said it was the best movie they have seen yet and that the Joker was phenomenal. In fact my son who is 23 yrs. old went to see it for a 2nd time 2 days later.

At first I was a little skeptical about the whole Heath Ledger's so amazing and needs an oscar for this role deal but after watching it for myself I was literally blown out of my chair. Heath was amazing and stole every scene he was in, he scared me! I have to give it to the writers because I really loved the story. I thought the plot was believable and well thoughtout...believable meaning that they made the idea of Batman a real possibility. The technology he used to do what he did was very entertaining. I think people are going to keep seeing this movie until November. It was the Blockbuster I've been waiting for the whole summer and some. Well done Christopher Nolan, well done. PS IMAX is WELL WORTH IT FOR THIS FLICK...pay the extra, it's really worth it!

Nolan's directing is sublime, the pacing of the movie was so well kept, managing to keep the audience enthralled in an almost 3 hour movie. There were several shots in the film that had me saying "Now how in the hell did they do that?!", Brilliant scores by James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer. And Heath Ledger really shinned! I don't want to say much about it, because whatever is said cannot do it justice, there is enough hype surrounding it's release, but it's there for a reason. Top Notch film. I took my 13 year old son to see it last night and it definitely didn't disappoint. Heath Ledger was the most crazy & bizarre dark villain I’ve every seen. I hope he wins an Oscar for this performance-he stole the show. The action and effects were great, with the exception of the voice effects on Batman. Sorry, but it was cheesy. That was my only complaint

An earlier reviewer said this was an intelligent comic book movie. I won't call 20 or so completely illogical jumps (nobody notices that the cops on the review stand are not the ones that should be there, etc.) intelligent. I will only ask why Batman should take the rap for 5 murders he didn't commit to create a hero out of the murderer for the good of Gotham?
Batman Begins has a great story (mastering your fears, etc.) and a lot of explosions. The Dark Knight has a lot of explosions. Judging from how he died in real life, perhaps Ledger's portrayal of the Joker was prophetic. After Batman Begins, and through the first two and a half hours (illogical jumps and all), I wanted to like this movie. But I don’t buy the ending that the human race needs to be lied to keep it from chaos. I don't believe we need to be told "what's good for us to know" instead of the truth. I think Iron Man got it right.

Oh man, I don't even have the time to describe how TERRIBLE this movie was. Why are people tricked into thinking this is a good movie? Bad acting, terrible writing, bad dialogue, crummy story-line. I didn't care one bit about any of these characters... with the slight exception of the Joker. The movie was ZERO without Heath Ledger. The Dark Knight was simply amazing. Heath Ledger's performance was phenomenal as was the rest of the cast. Loved Harvey Dent's character, and Christian Bale is by far the best Batman to date. This was by far the best Batman movie there has been to this point. Heath Ledger was great as the Joker. The plot was excellent. Plenty of action without being stupid or senseless. Only thing that I didn't like was Batman's voice. Even still, I'd see it again in a heartbeat.

This movie was fantastic. Heath Ledger was phenomonal as the Joker and quite freaky, he stole the movie. I still would have loved to see more of Christian Bale but the movie was great and an awesome experience at an IMAX theater!

WOW!!!! this movie was so good i did not expect it to be soo good...I was skecptical at first when i heard Heath Ledger was going to play the joker, but after seeing the movie i see why they chose him...it was alot more darker then the first movie which made it even more fun to watch...I hope christopher Nolan makes a third movie...perhaps villan is riddler ? maybe robin comes into the picture?

First off Christian Bale is some great eye candy.... Heath Ledger does a phenomenal job, Hanns Zimmer hits another soundtrack out of the park.... its a great action ride. Almost like 2 Batman's in one, but you never want it to end. Completely recommend you see it in IMAX- they utilize EVERY component.

I thought the movie was good, special effects were great, the acting and story were decent too. It was great too see in the theater (the dvd may not be so good). Dont go if your expecting to see something realistic. During the fight scenes the mortal joker is immune to breaking of skin or loss of teeth. Props to TDK for solving early on the whole articulation of the neck thing that has plagued the Batman franchise for 15 years. Ok now on to Heath Ledger. The whole time I felt like I was watching Al Franken. If Heath would have said "I am good enough smart enough and gosh darn it people like me"., he then would certainly be eligable for an academy award.

I thought the movie was very good but could have been a little shorter. Too many action and chase scenes to keep my attention. Heath Ledger was phenomenal and will certainly get the best actor Oscar for his performance. Special effects were amazing. The plot was predictable, but the Joker made up for that. If they cut out some of the explosions and chase scenes would be a GREAT movie.
