Everybody's been tricked. This was NOT good. Unimaginative story, riddled with coincidence. The movie wasn't smart. The LAZY person's Star Trek. Almost NOTHING of what Star Trek is all about. Little moral challenges, philosophy, character building, emotional resonance, etc. Just fluff. Barely thought provoking. Action is ok but you need all the other stuff or else WHAT'S THE POINT? It looked cheep too. The only compelling aspect of the movie was the actor who played Chekov.
Watching this movie is morally and spiritually imperative. I believe in God but I realize God is a fantasy. This is the only way for God to be impervious and perfect. As soon as God becomes real, and empirical, God becomes imperfect and fallible.
Oh man, I don't even have the time to describe how TERRIBLE this movie was. Why are people tricked into thinking this is a good movie? Bad acting, terrible writing, bad dialogue, crummy story-line. I didn't care one bit about any of these characters... with the slight exception of the Joker. The movie was ZERO without Heath Ledger. And how insulting was it to just FLASH the "in memory of" credit at the end. I'm sorry, this movie was stupid.
OK, I think this is the first non-3D, non-documentary IMAX movie I have seen. And it was absolutely amazing. Probably the best movie experience I have ever had. No joke. Not only was this the only Martin Scorsese movie I have ever cared for (not a fan of his work), but the movie theater experience was unparalleled. Aside from the amazing picture, there were no previews in the beginning and there were no advertisements or "movie tunes" or whatever at the end! The theater I went to (Bridge @ Howard Hughes Center in LA) actually played ROLLING STONES music when the movie was over!! No crud that just kills your buzz. I didn't care for certain aspects of the movie (pretty much anything with Scorsese in it, being fake, popping up illogically and hamming it up). I also thought the movie should have shown much more of Charlie Watts & Ron Wood. Also the audience seemed kinda hand picked for beauty (front row), and they weren't super enthusiastic. The venue felt kinda cramped and the phony CG shot at the end was out of place after seeing the reality of the Stones performing so up close. A vintage shot would have been much more poetic. Bravo though Scorsese, you actually made a movie that wasn't sadistic and pathological.
