I am so happy that they are taking the time to tell this story, by making it into two parts....Although, it is my opinion that most HP fans would HAPPILY sit through a five hour movie ;) I am reluctant to suggest an appropriate age for viewing this movie. I would probably agree that the PG-13 is pretty accurate. My children enjoy the books and movies, but this story is very dark and sad. The visual violence has gone up a notch. I absolutely LOVED the movie and would go to see it, again, today.

How do you cut a book in half?
Vary carefully!
The time flew by, you were deep in the story as one cliff-hanger after another crept up and was resolved. That method meant that you were well prepared for the final cliff-hanger that will lead you into the second film.
As always, the choices about what to leave in, what to cut out and what to slightly modify to make a Harry Potter book into a movie were very well done.
After all, a movie adaptation of everything in every book would take a couple of months to watch!
Go see it, then go home and re-read all seven books in time for the last film so you don't miss a single detail!

Of course the movie left out some parts of the book but as a whole the movie did a really good job showing the relationship changes between Harry and his friends as well as the effect hunting for Voldemort takes one a persons mental health. I would see this movie again.

I read the ending a few years ago when the last book came out, so no real surprises here. As usual well produced. Great seeing the kids grow up and I was surprised Mr. Dursley is still kickin'.

Once you see the movie you'll understand why there are 2 parts. Part 1 follows the book so very well; almost nothing is missing. A movie that is pure joy to watch.
Went to see it with my 11-year-old daughter and we both said we can't wait for Part 2.
The saddest thing is that when we do walk out of the Part 2 movie it'll be with mixed emotions knowing there aren't more coming.

My 6 and 7 years old boys wanted to leave after the first hour, and asked how many more minutes several times. (Not enough action of the younger set) The older kids (11 & 14 year old girls) thought the movie was fairly entertaining but missing too much compared to the book. (favorites are still movie 1,2 & 4). They both felt Ron and many other key characters did not appear enough.

I was let down by HP and the Half-Blood Prince, the film was unable to convey much of the political tension of the book and instead concentrated on the students' quest for love and romance. However, part 1 of Deathly Hallows was highly entertaining and able to keep the suspense without dragging. The film also did a better job of translating the story in parts that confused me in the book, such as the three brothers' story. However, it was missing the sense of betrayal and confused loyalties that Harry felt toward Dumbledore, some elements were there but not stressed. It was always the complex characters and their often complicated motives and personalities that makes the HP series so interesting for adults. And these personalities shine in this film, I feel largely due to the excellent casting choices and wonderful acting.

What can I say? This may have been the best movie so far. As an avid fan since book one first came out, I have spent the past 10 years wrapped up in this series. Not only is it entertaining, it touches on basic human emotions such as, friendship, loyalty, love, determination, hope and faith. Well done! I plan to see it again later today.

these kids have improved so well with their acting and the creators have improved with the movie also. people say they dragged out the movie but i say that they did very well with it. too much would be lost in the story if it was any shorter. this one has kept my imagination going. this one does however have parts that little kids might have nightmares later but many kids movies do have adult jokes and situations that kids won't understand and have more mature actions. the weird part of this specific movie is they mention things that were shown in the first movie or two and yet harry and friends don't realize unless they will realize in the final movie. excited to see final movie. yet sad the adventures will be over.

Harry Potter DH1 is an average to above average movie with nice special effects and several genuinely funny moments, written by a woman who doesn't understand or empathize with children, but writes childrens books anyway. She attached young kids to characters years ago and now she is systematically killing them off, or killing off their loved ones, or matching them up with someone other than who the readers pine for. What a power trip, you sure showed us.

I've been waiting for this final installment - and the movie didn't let me down! Watching these characters for so many years - you feel a connection to them. I would have easily stayed another 2 hours to watch the rest of the story. People clapped when the credits rolled - what a terrific ride this has been! July can't get here fast enough.

I thought it stayed as close to the book as possible...but some parts seemed to drag on as I felt they stretched it out to allow for the 2 movies. The dancing scene I think was needed to break the tension, it was very funny but sorta felt like I was watching something much to intimate between the friends...of course thats just my opinion.
The one thing that wasn't elaborated on was the shard of mirror Harry kept looking it. Every time he looked, would drive me mad trying to remember where he got it since none of the previous movies it was mentioned. And for someone who has never read the book would probably be confused.
The way it ended was perfect though and I can't wait for Part II.

I loved this movie! Definitely the most gripping of the Harry Potter movies. Reading the book helped with some of the scenes and I loved the scene where everyone became Harry Potter...it was hysterical. Definitely more humor in this movie in terms of Ron and Harry and their lines. I think it followed the book the best out of the other movies....I would see it a 2nd and 3rd time!!

Wow, what a major disappointment, this movie was so slow, I couldn't wait for it to be over. I kept looking at my watch wondering when it was going to ends!!!! Very good pacing, as dark as the book and the fully developed acting skills of all 3 leads. My only quibble is the inane dancing scene between Harry and Hermione. Is this the only way Harry could console her over Ron's departure? But worst of all is the semi-sex scene between the two when the horcrux is being destroyed. What the @#$@ is that about? And J Rowling was one of the Producers of the film and allowed an obvious pandering to tweens move??? Looking forward to the conclusion next year.....but I wonder what obvious "get the tweens audience" move will be allowed in part 2.
