First of all, it was very dark-pretty much all of it. Also, most of the time was spent with character development. Yes, they are adolescents now, but it was too much. The movie was much like the middle installment of the original Star Wars trilogy-by the end of the movie you are completely depressed. The only reason you have any hope for the trio of characters is that you know it's a Hollywood movie and good will triumph by the end of the next installment. The effects are great, as is most of the acting. I just prefer walking out of the theater with a smile. I think it would have been better had they interspersed some happiness like they did in the first few Potter movies. There are enough depressing things in life as it is :-)

Let's face it, most people going to see this movie are Potter fans. We've all seen the previous movies and likely read the books. To no surprise this movie is more dark in it's theme then most. The story line has brought us to a darker climax before the story concludes in part two of The Deathly Hallows.
My personal view is to neglect taking your child younger then 8-9 unless the are mature for their age or not easily frightened.
The older Potter fans should enjoy this movie, but know some fans left with tears in their eyes.
Our specific crowd at the movie cheered, cried, and we had the I'll timed scream from a group of young ladies. Overall it's a great movie and a good rendering of the book.

I love this movie from haunting beginning to the foreboding ending. Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint have never been better and Emma Watson is stellar! I cried, hard, on three separate occasions. I was enchanted and horrified. Very well done, this is the best of the Harry Potter films, so far. See it!!!

I Really enjoyed this movie, having read the book it very in line with the book. The only thing that kind of confused me is the path of the hawtorn wand between movies 6 and 7 (part 1). Definitely a must see for all Harry Potter fans and I can't wait until part 2 comes out in June of 2011!

This movie was great...I only wish that we didn't have to wait until next summer to see the end! The HP movies are great because they are true to the books and this one was no exception. Visually this movie was great and there were a few moments where I actually screamed. If you are an HP fan, you'll love this movie!

I am a huge fan of the Harry Potter series, books and movies. I waited in a theatre for 3 hours to see this movie, bought tickets 3 weeks early for this movie and let me just say, it was sooo worth it. This movie surpassed my expectations, totally. The way it was made, the actors in it, new and old, was great. I highly suggest this to anyone thats seen the movies. You need to habve seen the first 6 of course, and book readers, i highly suggest the books. I lov Harry Potter and am counting the days til part 2.

With more time to sort through character evolution and plot development, Mr. Yates has produced the best Potter of the series. It makes one wonder how much better each of the films could have been given the opportunity to be split in two. There is a moment in the film, underscored by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, in which Harry and Hermione share a tender dance in light of all the darkness encroaching around them. It is, quite simply, beautiful, as is most of this haunting and harrowing feature. Each of the three central actors have so improved since the last film, we can no longer doubt their future careers. Rupert Grint is particularly good and is even given a monologue halfway through the film. Also to be commended is Alexander Desplat, the film's composer, who makes this Potter sound the best as well.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 did a good job of following the story from the book. The movie was fast paced, and did a good job of speeding along the time spent in the forest which seemed to drag in the book. The two and a half hours went really quickly and left you wanting more but wasn't a cliff hanger. I was impressed by the acting of the other main characters which really hadn't been displayed in previous movies.

I love the Harry Potter series so I do recommend all fans to see this one. It closely follows the book, but I feel like it portrays some scenes differently and some scenes are totally opposite of the book, but I suppose, that's how it always goes. The climax in the movie isn't until the very end, which, you would think, gets kind of annoying waiting that long, but it definitely keeps you interested. I liked this movie a lot and I cannot wait until the next (and final!) one comes out.

They really left a lot of the storyline out. I guess they had to to make it an appropriate movie length. They skipped over so many little things that it piled up and it was very noticeable. However, the things they DID include were very well portrayed.

There were some good moments to the movie, a few laughs and serious at times, however it seemed a bit long and drawn out there for a bit. I know that the parts shown were probably needed to be there, but I haven't read the books to know what is going on, going to happen or how close it follows the book. I just am a movie goer who seemed a bit antsy after 2 hours. It was a good movie but I could have waited to see it at home. I love Harry Potter movies and am looking forward to watching it at the theater in July when the conclusion comes out.

WOW!! This is the best one of the Harry Potter movies I have seen yet. It tells alot that comes from the book ,so you will know what is going on, not just parts of the book. It has action, love, and suspence in the movie. You feel like you are right there with the characters on the screen. Yes, I would highly recommend this movie to my friends and other people. Deathly Hallows part 1 has just the right blend of comic moments and darkness. The cast has really gelled over the years- and Bonham Carter as LeStrange is still scarier than the V man himself. The story line is pretty true to the book, and where it's not it makes sense. My only complaint (for this movie and the last couple) is the marginalization of the Ginnie story line, though it is touched on here quite endearingly.

I was so excited to see this movie and was afraid that maybe I was building it up too much in my mind. However, as soon as the movie started, it was clear that the movie was going to live up to the hype. The acting by the cast was great, especially my favorite young actors. I must say that Rupert Grint stole every scene that he was in. I was really impressed with his emotional range and especially, his comedic timing. I also love seeing the progression of Ron and Hermione's relationship. Overall, I would see it again, and soon!

If you've been living under a rock for the past 10 years, then you won't know what's coming in this final installment in the Harry Potter series. Or at least the first half of it.

The movie left out a lot of the plot from the book despite being 2.5 hours long, all in the name of including more "action" sequences. Principle characters, both good and bad, are left out of the movie entirely or denied speaking parts. Grayback, Fluer, and others were noticeably silent or missing.
<br>
The acting on the part of the big 3 was just short of awful. No subtlety. Emotions shown as merely different tones of voice sans facial expression. When Rupert's character of Ron is "splinched" while running away from the bad guys he is shown with his arm nearly torn off at the shoulder. He doesn't scream. Nor does he writhe in agony. Awful acting. Simply awful.
<br>
On the good side, Helena Bonham Carter is very good as Belatrix Lastrange. They cut out her yelling "crucio!" as she tortures Hermione Granger, as well as Ron's torment at hearing it. Perhaps their poor acting skills forced that bit to remain on the cutting room floor.

The costumes and scenery are excellent.
<br>
There is background music as well, not that you'll notice.
<br>
The end of the movie is the point in the book where Voldemort breaks into Dumbledore's tomb and obtains the wand which is one of the 3 deathly hallows. OK. Good stopping point. Leaves everyone hungry for more. I can see that.

The body count is higher, the action sequences are longer, and overall it is a fun ride. Just don't expect great art or any surprises.

Dark, emotional, tense with just enough laughs. A great war time movie. The main three really step up to the emotional gauntlet that being on the run from Voldemort provides.

which is what the moviemakers intended to do by splitting JK Rowling's 7th book into two parts. The movie didn't disappoint in the enrichment of the main characters, or the translation of the book to the screen. However, at the end of the film....I felt like I had been on a 2 1/2 hour roller coaster ride that ended in the middle of the tracks. It was definitely intended to be a set-up for what is to follow next July......

I'm disappointed that my grandchildren, ages 5 and 7 won't be seeing this movie. Way too dark and scary. They loved the others.

This was good, as you would expect, but a few problems. There was very little music at all this film. Long stretches of silence and an unfulfilling stop at mid-point made it a slight disappointment vs. the last film, for example.
