This part of the series delt with more mature subject content. It had a very somber tone and none of the child-like humor. As the characters have grown up so has their situation. And as with any war comes deep feelings. War is not fun and games nor pretty. Keep this in mind when the younger HP fan is begging to see this movie.

The movie flowed very well. Q - How do you take such a detailed book & relive it on film? A - Just the way it was done! Effects were great, acting was VG. My group of diehard fans were very happy with part one.

CONS:
-it's 1/2 a movie... it gets you all worked up and is visually and emotionally striking but you can't help but leave wishing it was the whole movie.
-it's choppy. But most people have read the book and subconsciously fill in the things they remember to make the movie seem like it makes sense. Those who haven't read it: I think you'll find it hard to follow.
-Whenever I saw the Minister of Magic I couldn't help but sing "I can feel it in my fingers, I feel it in my toes! (Love Actually)"
PROS:
+dark and exciting just like the final books.
+attention keeper!
Worth seeing, but if you can hold off... I'd just wait for the double features when part 2 comes out.
I love these movies and I loved this one almost better than them all! Can't wait for part 2 to see how it all comes together!

If it wasn't for special effects, the movie would be a bust. Slow dull plot, terrible dialog, this was to be one of the best. It's almost as if they didn't have enough to make into a story so they stretched it out. Broom cases replace the old car chase and there was even even a fake love scene. Simply dreadful script and story line, not what I expected. Oh and don't waste the money on the ultra screen. It did nothing to improve the script.
I'd like the 2 1/2 hours of my life back. It was terrible, wait for it to move to the budget or better when it appears in the WalMart discount bin. It's a poorly written JK Rollings movie. Perhaps next-time they hire a real writer.

I thought this was a really good part I of the Deathly Hallows. Can't wait to see part 2. My kids loved it. This one had a lot of action but also quite a bit of humor as well. As with all of the Harry Potter movies there are parts left out that seem somewhat essential to the story, but you'd have to have a 8 hour movie to get it all in. I think they did a great job in figuring out what to put in and what to leave out.

I love Harry Potter movies and also the books. However, i did have to explain to my 10yr old son who some of the new characters were, so thought they should have had some contact in the other movies, but all in all, we loved it. We would have stayed for the whole movie, parts 1 and 2 together. Can't wait for the 2nd part. Hate to see it end!

They did a pretty good job with this movie... way way way better than the last movie which I thought was pretty horrible... the only reason I didn't give it 5stars is because they left out some stuff that I recall fromt he book to be pretty important. If you don't know what that is.. than I really, really suggest you read the book!!!

This long awaited film definitely lived up to my expectations. Not only was the plot handled very well (I was nervous about the fact that they were splitting the final book into 2 parts), but the actors/actresses portrayed the emotions of their characters extremely well. Although it is difficult to have to wait yet again for the final installment, the film would not have been as good if the entire book had been crammed into one movie. Keep in mind, though, that this film is not light-hearted entertainment. It is very heavy emotionally and I would not recommend it for children.

I have always been just a tad disappointed with all the Potter films since I have read all the books. I'm SO very glad they didn't over do all the teen sexuality coming of age crap this time around (like they did in Half Blood). This movie is my favorite of them all. The telling of the DeathlyHallows had me mesmorized and I cried at the end (but I think this was also due to the fact that I'm getting emotionally wrapped up in the wrap up of this series). Great, great movie!!

Some people would call this a little boring. Those people may not have read the books. I thought it was a great build up to what I know is going to happen next summer. I thought it was well done, adding some humor to the darkness of the times. Bellatrix is amazingly crazy in this particular episode. There were some changes from the books, and some things left out. One thing that is missing is a clear understanding (for those who have not read the book) of what objects the horcruxes might be.
Overall, Harry Potter fans will enjoy this installment, but it will make them long for next summer!

They had the time to do it right and they did. Set a perfect tone and look - intense, beautiful, ominous. Pulled all of the essentials from the book (hope they explain horcruxes a bit more in Part 2, but I'm quibbling). Absolutely gorgeous design and magnificent effects. Die-hard HP fans will not be disappointed. Run, don't walk to nearest theater and enjoy!

I loved it! I had been very annoyed that they were splitting the last book up into 2 movies, but now that I've seen it, I'm not annoyed anymore. They did the best job yet of staying true to the book, and it was well worth the length of the movie and the 2-movie format to get all of the details right.

As an avid HP Fan, this movie was awesome. It truly went through an entire gambit of feelings and while it is hard to cover everything that happens in the book in the movie, the writers did an excellent job of trying to address a lot of things that are going on. It truly was beautifully done and the ending was SPOT ON! I am anxiously awaiting the second part and watching it on the IMAX was better. Honestly you did not even realize that you had been in the theater for 2.5 hours! It truly kept you in enthralled!

The kids have grown up and shown they can actually act. Rupert Grint and Emma Watson stole the show in their emotional displays. HP movies will never win an Oscar, but that's not what they're for - they're for visually representing great stories. And that's exactly what Deathly Hallows Pt1 does. Definitely a must see for all Harry Potter fans.

I was so dissapointed with the last HP movie I almost didn't go to this one., but I am very glad I did.The movie went along with the book. Of couse there were somethings missing from the book but they captured all the important parts. I took a friend who had never seen or read any of the HP stuff. Her and I both couldn't believe it was 2 hr and 20min, because when the movie was over it felt like it had just begun. I definately urge all to see it. I am so excited for part 2.

The reviews on this site are stating that this movie is the truest to the book as any of the movies have come. While I will admit they did take lines directly from the book, the inaccuracies were just too much to bear for a potter snob such as myself. This movie is the first introduction to Bill Weasley and Mundungus Fletcher, 2 characters with which Harry has had PLENTY of contact in the past. Creature is barely a figure in this movie, they could have left him out entirely which makes no sense since he plays such a key part in the book. Aside from the inaccuracies my potter-snobness forces me to see, the movie was not a bad movie. My problem with the Potter movies in general is that there is so much information to pack into a 2 hr movie that the important parts and morals JK Rowling spent years getting down on paper are lost in translation on screen. The transitions between scenes are choppy and are often so all over the place that anyone who hasn't read the books finds it difficult to follow. The good parts of this movie are the visual effects, the scenery (which I will say seemed to be very accurate) and the actors. Dan, Emma and Rupert have done such a fantastic job playing the characters they've grown up with that its hard not to imagine them as the trio we've all come to love. Overall the movie is a 3-4/5 Its not that the movie was bad or even mediocre. I was intrigued and entertained every step of the way and can't wait to see the conclusion but as a die hard Potter-Head I would gladly have sat through a 6 hour movie in order to keep true to the amazing ness that is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Read many of the early reviews, and was prepared to be disappointed again, ala "Half-Blood Prince". Surprised by the intensity, complexity, quality of acting, mood, and bits of humor that were just enough to keep it from being dour. Even the actors in the bit roles put in great efforts. Reviewers complaining that some parts are "slow", as if the whole movie should be one long CG action sequence, are missing the point - the interaction between the characters is one of the best aspects of watching this movie. These are characters in dire straits, fighting for their lives, and they make you believe it.
Very satisfied, may go see it again, and will buy the DVD even though they'll probably combine parts 1 & 2 down the road.

Was Wesley's best performance yet! The action was good. Is a very dark movie, and at times seemed to drag out - for example, the times they showed characters just sitting/walking or thinking.
I could see the series continuing with Draco Malfroy's life.
