An Absolutely delightful extravaganza! Meryl Streep is superb as always, bringing tears to my eyes as she sings, "Winner Takes All." The energy and zest for life blazes forth and can't be contained. What made it work for me was that despite the unending musicality of this movie, there was sufficient emotional drama, comedy and wisdom to add texture and humanity to the synergy of it. I want my own DVD copy.

I had seen the stage play 5 times in different cities. Each performance was spectacular, but the movie added a whole new dimension with real scenery. It doubled my enjoyment. It was so wonderful it actually brought tears to my eyes when it first began and of course I couldn't help but sing along, but I didn't think dancing in the isle in a movie theater was a good idea. I will be going back to see it many times and try to get them to "Crank Up The Volume"

I was surprised to be sitting in a near sold out performance of Mamma Mia while 4 screens of The Dark Knight were available. From the start, the film lacked any visual scope. Most of the time the images seemed almost claustrophobic. I have to wonder why the film was shot on location in Greece, when the director failed to make use of the beautiful surrondings. What was used, could have been shot on location and the rest of the movie shot on a Hollywood backlot. Mamma Mia seems to have fallen prey to the same problem Hairspray had. Casting names for their box office appeal rather than a more appropriate actor. Meryl Streep has to be applauded for turning in what is undeniably the best performance of the film. Her frazzled energy kept the movie trudging along amidst other less energetic performances. The remaining female cast turned in more than adequate performances, but their male counterparts were decidedly lacking. What stroke of genius it was to cast 3 men who can't sing in a musical? All in all, Mamma Mia is a good afternoon or evening. It's campy, frenetic and the disco-esque performances comlpete with lighted dance floor turned in by Meryl and her co-horts will make it worth while.

A true "cheerer-upper" of a film (we'd had a horrible week), which made us laugh lots. Yes, parts of this movie are very silly, but it's all so fun. Amanda Seyfried is excellent, and this should be the breakout role for her; she can sing, dance, and act. The biggest surprise is that Meryl Streep can really sing. The scenes of the Greek islands made me want to hop the pond again as soon as I can because they were so beautiful. And much of the audience was singing along with the movie. And who can resist the music of ABBA?

The cast was amazing. I especially enjoyed watching and listening to Christine Baranksi. She is simply hilarious. Ms. Streep has a lovely voice and as we all know her acting abilities are above and beyond the norm. The complete cast made this movie fun to watch. The songs of ABBA brought back nostalgia memories. Its a nice adaptation of the live production, but it didn't need the cast quality of Meryl Streep & Pierce Brosnan to succeed. It was almost too well acted for such a light-heearted script. 007 is better chasing Bloefeld than crooning ABBA, but I have to hand him props for trying. I'm a father of a teeneager daughter & humbly surprised how emotional I was all movie long. The movie's wedding premise really choked me up (or was is 007's singing?)

My daughter and two grandgirls and I attended Mamma Mia! on 7/20. The girls loved the music and my daughter and I will be going back again. Probably more than once!! I was very impressed with the voices of Meryl and Pierce. In fact, I get chills just thinking of the delight that was provided with a truly wonderful movie. It feels just like a broadway play... makes you want to jump up and applaud. Great movie. Who knew Meryl Streeep could sing? And that Pierce couldn't? But that's okay, it's great fun and a great escape when you need one. My daughter and I will buy it the minute it comes out on DVD.

I thought the movie was excellent, Meryl Streep of course was amazing and has and abundance of energy that seeps into every facet of the movie. The music was terrific, I agree Pierce Brosnan does not have a great voice, but unlike St. Louis critics, his presence is enough to carry him in any role and the likeability factor outweighs everything. I thought all roles were terrific and smiled from the start to the finish, which in today's movie gendre is refreshing. I actually took my husband and he loved it too.

Love, love,love it. If you saw the play, you'll love this movie. The cast is great - cheers especially to Pierce Brosnan for stepping out of character and doing a great job. Meryl Streep is absolutely amazing. The music is pure heaven - even if you're not an ABBA fan. You can't help yourself. You can tell how much this cast enjoyed making this movie. Don't miss it.

If you've seen the show you will like the movie; if you haven't seen the show you will love the movie! Great crossover from the stage aided by the beauty of Greece. Meryl Streep is a total surprise - good vocal range and quality (sometimes a little too campy) but great with "Winner Takes it all". Brosnan gives it his all and that's good enough for me - just looking at him is music!! Definitely a highlight of the summer season.
