Ladies and gentlemen, Indy has jumped the shark. Yes, I'm pretty sad to say it, but it's the truth. And I wanted to like it. I did. It is an entertaining movie, but it was all just a bit too much in the end... including the ending. How many times throughout the film am I going to be asked to suspend all logic, reason, believability and truth? It's a roller coaster of a flick, absolutely, and it hardly slows from beginning to end. It's a lot like the mine car ride from Temple of Doom, except every few minutes the cart is making the improbable, impossible, unbelievable, and miraculous leap across the fiery cavernous lava pit onto the remote track. Movie icons like Indiana Jones always get the benefit of the supernatural luck or good fortune, but this one just goes to the well a few too many times. The best moments in the movie for me are the character revelations told through the more subtle and simplistic bits. Part of me thinks Lucas had a little too much of Spielberg's ear during production. One scene in particular comes to mind(you'll know when you see it and cringe). The thing that I wonder the most about is how *this* was the script that was picked over the 1,000's of other Indy scripts they went through. I don't know. I don't get it. I'm a sad panda.

Good - not great - but still a fun watch. If you hope this is even better than 1 & 3 you will be dissapointed - but it is better than 2. I did feel a little cheated by the ending, but won't spoil it for you.

While there were parts of the movie I could see being criticized, overall I thought it was the movie was great! I was so happy to see this film finally made and Indy back on the big screen. My favorite will always be the 3rd one but I greatly enjoyed this one. Well worth being up at the movies until 2:30am!

Terrible opening credit scene, horrible dialogue scenes, cheesy sets, weak action, deflated acting, awful storyline, and the ending was just flat out stupid. If you have a crystal skull inside your head, but only a 1" thick neck, you'd never be able to hold your head up! This film should never have been made, but the studio system has to have a way to shove a bankable brand down our grandkids throats for the next several decades, hence Indy 4 and the passing of a once-bright-torch.

If you are an Indiana Jones fan then this movie won't dissapoint you, but won't satisfy you. If you could care less about IJ then don't even bother. Shia LaBeouf is a so-so actor in this movie. Kate Blanchett is the best actor in this movie (she really can get those accents correct).

Well, just got back from seeing Indiana Jones and I have to say it was great. Was it as good as Raiders and the Last Crusade? No, but it was in league with Temple of Doom which is a good thing in my mind. I think the biggest downfall of the movie is that Indiana Jones has become are parody of itself and its hard for it to tread new ground (though it does in an extremely unexpected way.) Otherwise the movie was alot of fun and its great to see Indiana Jones back in action

I went to the midnight showing and am so glad I did. They did an excellent job with this movie in regards to keeping some things from old movies in this new one. There were very few moments of boredom during the entire movie as it was a fast paced movie, but definitely not one for kids.

In short: cartoon villain, cutesie dialogue relying on the other three movies, STRANGE subject matter, a huge amount of ridiculous stunting and explosions, and fake backdrops. There were a few funny gags, and the action was entertaining. But not a Jones classic.

Forced plots and subplots, stilted dialogue, predictable action sequences, and A LOT of bad acting (not on Ford's part, but from LeBeouf and Blanchet). While it was fun watching Indiana Jones again, I exepcted more from Lucas, and probably shouldn't have. I walked away reminded of how he's been a bust ever since the eighties. I suppose I built myself up so much because this was a storied franchise that I wanted badly to see continue to develop that I could only be greatly pleased or deeply let down. I was let down. I guess that was the big disappointment for me: you see, in the other three films, Indy's character grew and developed as the weirdness around him unravelled; in this film, he's simply a cliche of himself with no growth, no dynamic change, and no character arc (fellow writers will know what I mean). Overall, this film certainly wasn't worth staying up until 3 am to see. Wait for the DVD and watch it when it's raining and you have nowehere else to go or nothing else to do.

I was concerned going into this movie that I would be disappointed with Lucas and Spielberg resurrecting the finely crafted work they had accomplished in the first three Indy movies. But I wasn't. And I've seen people say they don't like the movie because it didn't follow the same plots as the other three. But they're forgetting that its been 2 decades since 'The Last Crusade'. This movie was classic Indiana. With alot of good laughs in it. Besides using the cliche of Marcus Brody and Dad dieing. And the Sci-Fi'ish twist at the end(which I won't fault the movie itself for, ahem...Spielberg). This movie was very awesome. And well worth seeing at midnight. I gave it five stars because it followed the heart of the previous Indiana Jones movies, without giving me the same old same old. And the Fire Ants were a great touch!

Not a complete disappointment but not a complete failure. They took the ridiculous action to a new level in this one. I know its Indiana Jones and its supposed to be cheesy but some of the scenes had me laughing because it was so ridiculous. Harrison Ford is still a man but Shia Labovajkafnvl still isnt very good. I enjoyed it, but not as much as the other ones.

This is was perhaps the worse destruction done to an iconic character since Batman & Robin. Even the dissapointing Superman Returns did more justice to our nostalgia than this monstrosity. The new Indiana Jones movies departs significantly from the movies we all fell in love with. And It was not just the ridiculous alien-centered plot (which made the movie seem more like a totally unfunny spoof named "Indiana Jones in Space"), the impossible surviving of a near ground-zero nuclear blast, the sophomoric and lackluster characters, the completely unnovel regurgation of plot-devises from past films and genres. It is was the fact that there was no simply no respect for the character. There were times which a little depth was displayed in the character, But these were overshadowed by his conspicuously reheresed and out-of-character dialogue. On the plus side, it featured a visually stunning series of action scenes. But they were thrown together with a horrendous plot, saddening script, and B-movie dialogue.

If you enjoy movies like I do, as in you don't nitpick at every little problem, and genuinely go into a movie trying to enjoy it, then this movie is fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and personally, and I'm sure many might disagree, I think this movie had the best chase sequence of all four so far.
It's got all the great adventure, mystery, and comic relief of Raiders and Crusade, although I don't think it held up to the standards set by those two. However, I definitely enjoyed it more than Temple.
All that said, I was not prepared for the storyline they went with. I just did NOT see that coming. When it was first revealed what was behind everything, I was initially turned off, but I think overall, the movie pulled it off for the most part.
I heard there was a lot of trouble with the script, and I think I can see why. Please keep in mind that this is all pure speculation, and I have not verified any of the following anywhere.
I respect George Lucas immensely, and I believe the original Star Wars and Indiana movies rank among the best of all time. THAT SAID, I think the problems they were having with the script stemmed from the fact that Lucas must have insisted on the aforementioned storyline (its got Lucas written all over it), and Spielberg and Harrison Ford, being of sound mind, put up a fight. I think Lucas's Executive Producer credit lent a hand to him prevailing, unfortunately.
Although Spielberg managed to pull a good movie out of a wacky plot idea, I wish they would have gone with something else. Some of the ideas I heard they were tossing around were Atlantis or the Library at Alexandria. (Again, no confirmed sources, but either would have been more intriguing.)
If I have to nitpick for a few seconds, it has the usual unsurvivable situations (Atomic Blast to name one) from which Indy recovers unscathed, and a Lucasy riduculously huge ending. But those are my only real issues.
Overall, I enjoyed it thoroughly, I think Shia LaBeouf, despite my speculations, did a great job not being too Shia LaBeouf-y, but at the same time lending his usual charm and humor. The stunts were great, and I love the fact that CGI was kept to a minimum. Keeping in mind the names attached to this movie, I was pleasantly surpsied there wasn't more. The credits make it look like they gave every stuntman in LA a job.
It was a fun addition to the trilogy, and the way it ended implies that it is definitely the last. (I'd be very surprised, and wary, if they attempted a new one.) I think it's a great send-off for the franchise, and if you've seen the originals, it's definitely a must-see, even if only for closure. But if you enjoy the comic-book adventure, humor, and charm of the Indy movies, you'll definitely enjoy it.

Both Spielberg and Lucas seemed cursed by their past successes. The latest Indiana Jones fails to hold a candle to the originals. What happens when sky-high expectations meet questionable filmmaking? You get a blah movie like this. The use of CGI is out of control. I watched Harrison Ford get chased by a paper mache boulder before and was more okay with that then the CGI which allows the 60 year-old Indi to execute Jet Li/Matrix style fight scenes. It was not as hard to suspend disbelief with the original films. This film will try your patience and intelligence. Throw in a Cate Blanchett character that is also able to execute super-human moves, and there you have it: a movie that's over the top and will make you lose interest in one of your heroes (Spielberg or Jones).

Went to the midnight show last night and all I can say is what a letdown. George Lucas has officially lost hi mind. Crystal skull reminded me of when I watched the inferior allen quartermain movies. Crystal skull didn't even come close to the other Indiana Jones movies. The movie looked as if they didn't film on location at all, all soundstage, action scenes seemed very slow and I got the impression that Indy was more of the sidekick to Mutt(Shia). They should have used the formula that made the previous movies great. They ought to call this Indiana JOnes and the Kingdom of the Crystal SKUNK......... I want my 2 hours back.

Perhaps I'm a bit jaded. Maybe the hype and hope got to me too much. Whatever it may be, this is the worst of the Indiana Jones films. It is not a horrible movie; in fact, it's pretty good with lots of fun and action. Before going any further, I will say that I definitely reccommend seeing the movie in theaters, as it was meant to be seen. It is an experience, just not quite the experience I was hoping for. The very first shot irks me and sets up the main problem I have with the movie, which is some very poor CG amidst very good CG and practical effects. I still don't understand why many of these things couldn't have been done practically and then given a slight sheen of CG if necessary. There are several very important sequences ruined because of the use of CG that either should have been worked on more or scrapped for more traditional effects work. The script was adequate at best. There are certainly some good lines and some great exchanges, but it felt more like it was trying to be an Indiana Jones film rather than actually being one. Marion and Indy's exchanges were fairly worth it, though. The acting was spotty. Harrison Ford did a good job gettin back into the character, albeit a bit changed by time. Shia was actually very good for a lot of the film, minus one part that just felt completely out of character and awkward. Ray Winstone was given barely anything to work with, so it's hard to fault him. John Hurt's performance was unfortunate and annoying. They tried to play it for drama and laughs and neither worked for me. Karen Allen was just fine as Marion, keeping a bit of the spunk she used to have. Cate Blanchett was good up until the end, though that's no fault of hers considering how the ending was done. The story felt rushed, but halting. There was barely any rhyme or reason for anything and a lot of the actions of various characters were extremely suspect, including Indiana himself. He helped out very willingly with a lot of things I don't feel he would have. Maybe I read his actions wrong, but it still came off as weird and out of place. Like the other Indiana Jones movie, the central story is rather fantastical and you'll either go along with it or you'll be groaning at it. Especially at the end. The end was pretty much what I expected as I saw things going along, but it still didn't make it that good and it's very obvious they could have done a lot more with the material they had. It felt lazy. A lot of the film felt like that. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a good movie I feel could have been great if more time, effort, and thought had been put into it. There are some absolutely awesome sequences, which I won't ruin, showing that there were some good ideas that just needed to be developed more.

This is not the best of the Indiana Jones movies, but at least he does finally get the girl. The story line is workable, especially if you know about the Chrystal Skulls. The movie looks & feels like someone who has been at it too long and wants to bring all the loose ends together for a graceful exit. In some respects, it was a little sad, especially for someone like me who has seen him on the big screen since "Star Wars" originally showed. The only real problem I had was not with the Indiana Jones character or the story line, but with his son. Give me a break -- the sword fighting was pushing it, but the 'TARZAN' effect, come on!!!!

While entertaining and funny in many parts, and pays tribute to past Indiana Jones movies, this movie I felt was lacking. To me it just didn't have that Indiana Jones feeling while watching it. It felt more like a bad knock off.
I still recommend seeing it as it is entertaining, which I feel is a big part of what defines a movie and going to see it, but if you wait to see it at home while renting it, you won't wish you'd see it on the big screen. I saw it opening night and granted, because the fans were hyped about it, it made the experience better, but seeing it after opening shows/weekends will definitely make it lack even more so.

Definitely not as good as Raiders or the Last Crusade, but a good adventure movie nonetheless. If only Lucas could have restrained himself from the alien stuff it would have been even better.

I went to the Midnight showing of Indy last night and it was well worth the wait. The movie brought back a lot of great memories from the last three films and the chemistry between Marion and Indy rekindled without missing a beat. Harrison Ford even after twenty years can still pull Indy off. I would recommend this movie to a friend.

I can see why people would not like this movie, but if you are a true Indiana Jones fan and you have a solid knowledge of the entire series (including the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles) then you should realize that this is just another chapter in life of Indiana Jones. It does get a little far fetched at certain points but at the same time you could argue pulling a heart out of a man's chest or a 1000 year old knight as far fetched as well. They do a great job of tying in old characters and they do an even better job of not of not stretching Indy beyond his abilities due to his age. Overall I'm glad I saw it and I'll probably go see it again. How many other chances will I ever have to see Indiana Jones on the big screen?

Overall this movie felt like it was created in the 60s with all the spectulation, and russians. It had pelenty of call backs to the other three films. It was the fist movie I have ever seen that wasted so much money in the first scene. Two words - CG Groundhogs. The movie was great up until about 45 mins to the end when you relize what the movie is really about. That relization took away from the story making more fantasy than the other three indie movies. In the end I was dissappointed, but I would go see this movie again. It does have two of the best car chase scenes in a movie, but not as many traps as I expected.

this was by far the worst installment in the series. in fact, it is so bad, that it hurts the three previous films by having this one being out there. i have nothing positive to say about the entire film. there is just three words to describe the film - HORRIBLE & BORING. do not waste your hard earned money by seeing this piece of!@#$%^.

I am a huge Indy fan & I was really looking forward to this movie. I was greatly disappointed. I felt no connection with the story or the characters. Even 2 hours was too long- couldn't wait for it to end. People left before the movie ended. Usually when a script takes this long to write, it is going to be horrible. This is true to fact. Don't waste your time going to the theater- definite rental.
