This was one of the best Harry Potters in the series, yes it did in fact stray away from the book in several key terms, however, I do not doubt for a good reason. I have been taking my daughter to these movies since the first one came out in 2001, (she was 3) so she didn't understand it until year 3 but the point is I watched this movie with her last night and to see her connection, to see her tears and her laughter was all good enough for me, she connects with them feels she knows them, that is what makes a good movie. The movie was great, the plot was great and frankly I cannot wait for the next one in Nov, 2010!

This was a very well made adaptation of the book. The special effects were brilliant and the story line followed the book very closely (only a few elements were left out, but nothing terribly important to the story). There was a lot of teenage angst but it still fit in nicely. The ending was expected but very emotional to see on the big screen. Loved this movie!

As with all of the other movies, I enjoyed Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I was a bit disappointed that the movie left out some of the scenes from the book, but It would be impossible to get everything from the book into the movie (hence the four star rating). It would have been nice to see the battle scene in Hogwarts. While I liked the ending, I thought it should have concluded more like the book. It was nice to see humor in the movie. It was a good mix between intense situations and humor. I look forward to the remaining two movies.

This movie was good. Characters are definatly growning up. I did feel as though this was a "fill in" movie. Great graphics. Great acting as always. I would reccommend seeing the movie to a Harry Potter fan or anyone who likes a good fantasy movie.

Great movie. Loved the humor. It brought some warmth to the dark storyline. Thought that the character development in re Malfoy and Snape was just what was needed. I would definitely go see it again if I have the opportunity.

Of all the Potter films, this is the most faithful adaptation to date. We saw the movie twice (midnight release, and again last evening). Sure, there were details that were slightly changed (locations of conversations to be specific), but these were minor supporting details. In a book, the author must reveal every detail very specifically so we can visualize them. These details were presented in "flashes" in the background. Pay attention to the pictures in the background of the movie, and I think you'll find they left very little out. We'll go see it again in IMAX in a couple of weeks. It's the first Potter film I'll have seen more than twice in the theater.

Fans of the Harry Potter books will love Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. This movie stays relatively true to the series; it has great action as well as romance and humor. In this film we see Harry, Ron, and Hermione grapple with love, dating, friendship, and Death Eaters. We also see some interesting scenes of young Tom Riddle. Those who haven't read the books may be a bit disappointed. Six years into Harry Potter there are now so many twists, turns and plot points that it's getting a bit hard to keep up. There are also a few characters which aren't explained well in the film. I would not recommend this movie for children who have not read the book because of the confusing plot and some frightening scenes.

Ok so overall I thought that this movie was somewhat of a disappoinment not only because of the amount of content that was not transferred from the book into the movie, but also at the alteration of a few scenes here and there. Although I believed it was a disappointment, I would recommend it because for anyone that does not the complete story or does not remember the plotline, I believe that they would like the movie because it contains a combination of comedy, romance, and some action.

Not a fan of the early HP films but the last two have been very entertaining. This is by far the best in the franchise. While there are parts of the book that were omitted, it's the truest to the book of the films. Very funny film for an HP movie.

I really enjoyed it! As a mega fan of the book series, I don't think there's anything that could make me NOT like it; however, I brought my boyfriend who is not such a fan, and has not read any of the books, and although he enjoyed the movie as well, he was left really confused about a lot of things at the end. Stuff that made perfect sense to me having read the book at least 6 times LOL! But, overall very good.

Overall a good movie however, disappointed about some of the storyline that was left out and/or inaccurate according to the book. I felt that it was rushed and am worried about how the next movie will be effected by it. I think if you didn't read the book you might have a lot of questions. Still a good movie to see though!

I agree with others that this movie was real good but was lacking a lot of the details. If you did not read the book you would have missed the following details. Severus' last name was prince and he was a half blood hence the name of the movie. He was the potions expert who owned the book. Explaining what the horcruxes are and that Dumbledore had accidently put the ring on and his hand was dying. They hinted at it a few times but a few words would have made it very clear. It seems the screen writer or the director was at fault on a lot of these short comings. I AM AFRAID THAT THE LAST AND MOST IMPORTANT BOOK WILL BE TRANSLATED INTO SOMETHING LIKE THIS MOVIE. THIS WOULD BE A GREAT INJUSTICE TO ROWLINGS WORK IN MY OPINION.

A lot of key things from the book were forfeited, some scenes that were in the movie did not occur in the book, and the whole storyline in general paid far too much focus on the wrong things (like raging teen hormones lol). There was far too much drama and much too little action, so the movie felt a little drawn-out at times.
The filmography and special effects were wonderful, the actors were good and there were indeed a few funny moments - however it just isn't true to the book, which is what fans ultimately want.

Overall it was good, but as a big big BIG fan of the books I was pretty let down!. I was soooo expecting to cry for Dumbledore's death because every single time I read that part I cry And I didn't shed a tear in the movie I even tried to force myself but gave up cause it wasn't coming. I hated that there wasn't a battle at hogwarts!!! For those who are fans of the movies then they will like it but as a fan of the books I was really disappointed. Maybe I'll like it more when I see it a second time. Hopefully with Deathly Hallows being split in two they'll do it justice! Praying!

Loved it!!!! Must see for all Harry potter fans. I thought, it was moving too slow. I have not read the book but my daughter has and she found it engaging. It strayed from the book but seeing Harry and others as teenagers was worth it. It was sad to see Dumbledore die.

The Half Blood Prince is the Best of the Series so far. Being a HUGE fan of the books I found myself NOT upset by what they left out due to the stunning visual effects and fantastic acting by the cast. Dan (Harry) & Rupert (Ron) were hiliarious at times while Emma (Hermione) keeps getting better and better. With so much magic in this series it was GREAT to see the human side and realistic way they handled the teenage relationships. Your heart really goes out to Emma as she and Dan commiserate on not being with the one they love. The chemistry between Dan/Bonnie(Ginny), Ruprt/Emma was terrific. The acting of Helen (Bella), Alan (Snape), Tom (Draco), Mike (Dumbledore) and Jim (Slughorn) was also spot on.

I am a huge fan of the HP books myself and while yes, the movies have never followed exactly I still think they have done an excellent job of translating them to screen. There is no way anyone could put the whole book exactly on screen unless the movie were 4 hours long and it would be so slow! Half Blood Prince had many types of moments; intense, funny, sweet, sad...I truly enjoyed this movie and cannot wait for the next two!

I've yet to read any of the books so all of you busy/non-ambitious HP people out there, this is for you. It is mysterious as heck in the beginning [others i think are referring to this as the slow part of the movie, but nevertheless! it's no doubt interesting!] It's very dramatic, and even more interesting to me at 20 years of age to see the development of the actors and their characters over the years to present. It's fantastic. This movie really tells a lot of background information about, you know who ::gasp::, and the strategy of the dark lighters revealed. Character development throughout the movie is also very interesting. But overall I highly reccommend the movie, Thanks.

This movie definately cannot stand on its own, however, it does help the viewer transition to the final chapter. There is very little action in this movie yet the suspense is palpable. If you didnt read the all the books (like myself) you would have to be in the theater with someone who did to ask questions. Over all is a great movie!

People who expect movies to be just like the book should save their money and just reread the books! If you had never read the HP books, you would have enjoyed the movie! I thought they did a very nice job with the ending....I LOVED the part where all the Witches and Wizards raised their wands and how the phoenix flew away....it made me want to go back and reread the Deathly Hollows so I could remember what happened next! JKR writes so well that you don't really NEED a movie to follow!

This movie was great!!!!!! I wouldn't say better than the others because it just kind of leaves us waiting for the next movie, which yes thy all kind of do but it was realllllly good! I'm going to see it again!

Absolutely the best of the series. You can definitely tell it had a different director, primarily because Emma W. did a great job compared to previous performances. Perhaps maturity helps. Actually, all of the actors have matured and were, I thought, exceptional. Also, the cinematography and editing were superb. For the reviewers who hated the film because it didn't match the book... you can't fit everything into 2.5 hours. I missed seeing Bill being bitten, and I'm wondering how they will treat his wedding to Fleur, which has great relevance in the next segment of the story. But you have to rate the film on it's own merit, not against the book. It had a good mix of levity, anguish, action, and thrills, and the effects were great.

The movie was darker than I expected, but it was good in spite of that. These Hogwart's kids are growing up and growing into their "powers". They are taking on responsibilities that, in a way, parallel real life, and are going through that teenage angst just as a real teenager would. Combine that with the good -v- evil theme, and it becomes a soup that works well.

I hate to say it but this movie is probably best left in the category rental. Overall it was an okay movie that developed some of the characters into more mature roles like in the book but after that the director decided to add to the story and take key elements from the books. I mean the movie is PG, if it means adding a little violence and making the movie much much better make it PG-13 next time. I don't want to ruin anything but they left out a great scene from the book at the end.

They in my opinion cut out some very important parts, for example why snape was the half blooded prince and his grudge with Harry. And the whole thing with ginny in the hidden room that never happened in the book, but they have to cut it down for time's sake and as always I enjoyed it alot. The special effects and filming is excellent, And this one had a bit more comedy in it.

Ok, so I knew going into this I was going to be a little disappointed -- if you're a fan of the books, how can you not be? Unless you've never seen a book made into a film before, I don't understand how you can't set yourself up for some degree of disappointment.
Having said that, I really enjoyed this movie. The visual effects were amazing, they did stay true to the general tone and emotion of the book. Yes, they changed some scenes, character experiences, etc - but it would have been impossible not to. I think they did a wonderful job and look forward to seeing it again in the theatre!
