This movie truly lives up to all the hype that has been built up for it. Even though it is almost 2 and half hours long, it doesn't feel like it, as the movie is fast moving and intense. Heath Ledger as the Joker is the greatest protrayal of a villian ever.

You could watch this movie to appreciate his acting alone! Never got Heath Ledger's acting before. Hadn't understood why he was picked until I saw it. He was phenominal in this role, ashame he's gone. They better not include the Joker charachter in the next movie, no one could compare to him, they would ruin it that way. Only a couple things bothered me...it was very lengthy, the entire scene where they collect the fingerprint off a shattered bullet was a little much. Also, the Bruce Wayne/Batman charachter didn't follow the first movie. There were an excess of gadgets as opposed to his superior fighting skills as shown in the first. He was also swimming in his suits. I understand he wanted additional speed but man did he lose a lot of muscle, especially for being out crime-fighting near every night. But overall very good!

In a summer of GREAT (Iron Man, Incxredible Hulk,) Mediocre (Hellboy II) and not so great (Hancock) Superhero movies, The Dark Knight stands out with the best of them. While I'm definitely NOT one of those to jump on the bandwagon and get all amazed about Heath Ledgers performance because he died as so many are doing, I will say his performance as the Joker was absolutely incredible. His Joker was the scariest bastard in Gotham. There was NOTHING funny about him. He was Freddie Kruger in mortal form. Christian Bale is being overlooked because of Ledgers untimely death, but his Batman is the one all others should be measured against. He is head and shoulders above anyone elses take on the caped crusader. Bale has made Batman his character, and it's really a shame that's being overlooked. He is amazing in the role.
The rest of the cast is simply stellar. Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and especially Gary Oldman are each phenomenal. Aaron Eckhart is a great as the cities 'White Knight' , DA Harvey Dent and hope for a return to normalacy.
At 2 1/2 hours, it's a long flick, but it did not drag at all. I really enjoyed this movie. If there were any complaints it had to be for me the wooden performance of the saggy faced Maggie Gyllenhall, who did nothing for me as far as lead actresses go. She just filled a role. Katie Holmes was actually better as Rachel Dawes then Gyllenhall was.
I will not give anything away for those unfamiliar with the Batman mythos. Just see the movie, its worth it. A great, great flick and a worthy successor to 'Batman Begins'

This was a good movie however it was very long and could have done with 1 villan. Joker's Character should have died in the end like the Michael Keaton Batman.
There is not much story but plenty of action. Heath ledger does good as Joker.

With the hype over Heath Ledger's death I figured that there was no way it was going to be as good as everyone said, but I have to say that it was a good follow up to Batman Begins and Ledger's performance was the most faithful portrayal of the Joker's psychological problems that I've seen. All in all, I'd say it's definitely worth seeing.

This was a great movie, LOVED it! Heath Ledger was an awesome Joker, and it leaves you sad knowing that he is no longer here to make any more movies. Christian Bale was so awesome as the Dark Knight. They did an awesome job on making Two-face look very gross!

I'm a little surprised at all of the 5 star reviews. I wonder if these people were watching the same movie my wife and I were. Was it big, visually stimulating, and fast paced? Sure. Was it the best movie ever, or an "OMG I have to see that again!" movie? Nope. It was ok. Heath Ledger blew away Nicholson's Joker with ease, but what is the deal with Christian Bale's forced, deep, rasp when in costume? It seemed like a really bad impersonation of Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry. Anyway, it was ok and certainly entertaining. I just wouldn't give it 5 stars.

Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker is Oscar worthy. Whereas Nickelson's Joker was crazy, Ledger's is positively psychotic. .
The effects are outstanding, and Harvey Dent's makeup as Two-Face is amazing.

Excellent acting, excellent story line, great effects. Only dislikes was that the changed actresses from the first movie, I don't think Maggie Gylenhall is attractive nor Katie Holmes. And the movie seemed like it was going to end like 3 times. Overall though totally worth the high cost of movie tickets.

Despite my fear of clowns, this movie was excellent. Kudos to Heath Ledger for his Joker performance! I really would hate for there to be a sequel with Joker without him, it was just top performance.It was a bit on the long side, but it needed to be in order to build the suspense. One thing people should be aware that this is definitely NOT a movie to bring your kids to. It is definitely more violent and "dark" than any of the other Batman movies. We sat next to a family who had 2 small children who cried through a lot of the movie, because they were scared. Let your kids watch the Batman cartoons and the old Batman TV show, but leave them at home for this movie, for their sakes!

The Dark Knight was a captivating quasi-psychological thriller that was a feast visually, and mentally jarring. Heath Ledger's performance as the joker was nothing short of amazing, and Aaron Eckhart's role as the White Knight DA and Two-Face was something all of it's own. The contrast between Eckhart's Harvey Dent, and Bale's duo-persona of Bruce Wayne/Batman was essential to the make-up of the movie. This movie was phenomenal, and definitely lived up to all expectations set by it's predecessor. Hollywood will again morn the loss of the talent that was Heath Ledger after realizing the depth of his ability culminating in the Joker. While the Joker was certainly a dark, sinister and psychotic character, he also provided some mode of comic relief, and the perfect yin to Batman's yang. The only regret is that Heath will not be able to reprise his role. No one will ever be able to recreate the character that Heath so masterfully created.

Christian Bale is excellent as the Batman character - hope he returns in the next Batman movie along with Morgan Freeman!! Heath Ledger delivers an unforgettable character as the Joker - the pre-reviews were right on for his performance. Ledger made this character his own and did leave you feeling compasion for this 'villian' due to how his psychy was created in the past.
