heath ledger was amazing as the joker. if you hadnt known it was him beforehand you never would have been able to tell. the plot had audience members on the edge of their seats the entire movie and the joker managed to have you both completly terrified of him but loving everytime he was on screeen at the same time. batman was kickass as per usual along with the great performances of those actors who played det. gordon and harvey dent. AMAZING MOVIE!

I've always been a fan of Marvel Comics movies. I always felt that, at least the Marvel movies I saw, there was a sense of realism that didn't grace the always silly DC movies. That cannot be said for The Dark Knight. The Dark Knight is easily one of the best comic book movies, and especially the best comic book movie in recent history. What Nolan does with work that so easily could be over produced into a cheap thrill-a-minute extravaganza, most directors never achieve in a lifetime. Nolan creates vivid characters that are multilayered and robust. This, coupled with a fantastic cast to boot creates an unforgetable, chilling experience.
Speaking of the cast. Bale succesfully returns as the deepest Batman to ever grace the big screen, so kudos to him because he achieves it again. Maggie Gyllenhaal replaces Katie Holmes as Rachle Dowes, and is a welcome replacement. The always charming Michael Cain returns as Alfred, giving us what is, in my opinion, a perfect fit of talent and charm required for Alfred. Aaron Eckhart gives a solid portrayal as the suave "white knight" Harvey Dent. The cast is strong but rediculously unbalanced. Why? Heath Ledger, that's why. I'm sure you've heard great things about his performance, and I know that there are many of you out there who will wonder if this outcry of Ledger's brilliance isn't partly because of his early death. I can assure you that is not the case at all. The best word to describe his performance is captivating. I found myself wishing that the Joker was in every scene, that every scene he was in lasted longer. He is the best part of the movie and I just couldn't get enough of his performance. His performance was haunting, but in a character that is so easily overplayed into caricature, he creates the most believable character in the entire movie. And that is saying something. Dare I say it? His performance tripled Jack Nicholson's enormously. You will come out of the movie remembering the face of Joker and Ledgers last scene. I did want the Joker to be in more scenes but in reality he was in it the perfect amount. He was not so much a scene stealer on, you were still able to focus on the movie, but his performance was just so dazzling.
Go see the movie. It'll "put a smile on that face"

Christopher Nolan's follow-up effort to Batman Begins is a stunningly well acted, very well directed film that outdoes the original on many levels. It's a slick piece of film artistry that portrays the moral dilemmas that the lead, as well as supporting actors, must face - often making decisions that leaves the audience speechless.
Christian Bale seems to have grown more comfortable in his role as Batman/Bruce Wayne the second time around. His performance is well polished and doesn't seem forced.
The introduction of the Joker, played wonderfully by the late Heath Ledger, is masterfully acted. He captivated the audience without overshadowing anyone else's performance. While past actors have made the role of the Joker somewhat campy, Ledger plays him in a much darker, tortured manner. Without the use of any flashbacks, we're able to see what caused him to become the Joker, and what drives him to carry out the malicious acts that he does. He takes the role to a complete different level - not acting as the Joker, but becoming the role. It is truly a shame we will not get to see what other great works this talented actor could have achieved.
While not to take away from Christian Bale or Heath Ledger, it is worth noting that the supporting actors all have put in excellent performances. Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and the introduction of Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent are all well acted. Maggie Gyllenhall replacing Katie Holmes was a great decision - she plays the role beliavably and with a realism that was lacking in the first film.
The action sequences in the film are stunning and I was happy that (about 99%) of the film was based in Gotham City. While the running time is 2 hours 32 minutes, the film is well-paced and doesn't seem as long.
I highly recommend this film but advise strongly against bringing young children to this film. While it is PG-13, it has very dark tones and some very violent imagery.

This movie was hard to follow @ 2 am b/c there was a lot going on. Multiple scenes/angles/character experiences describing the same turn of events-and a complex turn @ that-I thought the movie was over, and we had 45 more minutes, so I definitely got my money's worth of entertainment w/out being bored.
The joker was the most evil Batman villain I have ever seen (although I do not remember the Jack Nicholson joker.) Heath was truly incredible.
The thing I loved the most was that the previews did not give too much away, and they were cut in such a way that the jokes were revealed in the movie, not the preview. The preview had it's own jokes, cut from different scenes in the movie, able to stand on their own.

Where do I start. First off going into this movie I had the expectations of this being another "good" superhero movie with explosions and fights and saving the girl from which I would walk away saying "that was a pretty good movie." Instead I got one of the best movies I've seen in a very long time. This movie takes batman to a much deeper darker level that is as intellectually rich as any other movie I've seen. This is a far cry from the Adam West era Batman. The plot delves not only into the corruption and the humanity and the depravity of Gotham, but of Batman and another character that I won't say and ruin the movie for you. To sum it up, I didn't expect to go into this movie and have to think, but I ended up coming out pondering and wondering about the points made in this film. Of course though you can't forget the actors, and they all shine, though some more than others. Christian Bale as batman portrays very well the all too vulnerable and human side of batman letting us see that batman is just a regular guy like everyone else. The man who plays Harvey Dent in the film does an outstanding job throughout and in his "transformation" (see the movie and it'll make sense). Of course though the best for last. Heath Ledger's portrayal of the joker is what makes this film. He pulls off the complete insanity of this character. His acting makes the character so deep and disturbed that it makes the whole movie. To sum it all up, Dark Knight is not your everyday superhero movie. This movie is much more deep and darker than any other superhero movie I've seen, and I'd go beyond that and say most other movies I'v seen. Thats not to say this is the scariest or most graphically violent film, because its not. What makes it great is that you feel part of this movie, and it makes you think about how closely knit evil and good are. Definitely check this film out.

There was hype...boy was there hype. Let me say: Heath Ledger was simply and undeniably magnificent. The joker was frightful, sickeningly humorous, dark, disturbed, and in my humble opinion the best villain ever. It was cast perfectly and delivered with perfection.
It's a shame that this had to be his swan song, but it is and it is a doozy.
This is one of those summer films we see at midnight. It was worth it.
The action scenes were tight. Bale was again great as Batman. The sound was well delivered. Gotham has never looked so good while still being Gotham.
Enough about that stuff. As a Batman "fan", will you enjoy the movie? Yes. As a movie fan, will you enjoy the movie? Yes. I give it 4 out of 5, because in my estimation Batman Begins is just a twinge better.

Heath Ledger's performance was uncanny and is certainly deserving of an Oscar nomination. His thrilling intensity and flawless portrayal of the Joker alone allowed me to walk out of the movie theater completely satisfied.

I can't say enough about everyone in the film and the director for this movie. Heath Ledger's performance was amazing, spell-binding. You could not take your eyes off him when he was on the screen. You never knew what he was going to do. When he was off screen, you anxiously await his arrival again.
Christian Bale and Aaron Eckhart's performances were great, also, but were overshadowed by what Heath was able to do with the Joker -- something we've never seen before in this character.
Thank you to all of the actors and writers, make-up people and special effects for giving us a great film that truly entertains us.

It was awesome!!! All the actors were top notch. Aaron was great, I am glad he was chosen for the role. Heath, well what can you say, I didnt see Heath in the movie at all. He was completely the Joker. It is amazing - he was a match to Batman as far as how deeply Bruce Wayne went into or was Batman is how deeply Heath submerged himself and maybe a bit more because he was never a regular Joe.
I dont know that I believe Rachel is dead. Guess we will have to see.

This movie goes beyond anything people have thought a superhero/comic book movie could be. This is a crime thriller that just happens to have the lead characters in costumes. The term "Dark Knight" covers more than just Batman. This is an ensemble movie with career performances by all of the leads (Bale, Ledger, Oldman, Eckhart). I don't want to get into details of the movie. But I will say this is not for little kids. I took my sons (now 7 and 5) to see the PG-13 "Spiderman 3", but this movie drifts much closer to an R rating. The violence and overall dark tone of the movie are something kids at least 10 and under do not need to see.

Heath Ledger's performance is one of the greatest in all of movies...great action film, and it doesn't feel like you have been there for 2 and a half hours
