I am a 45 year old man who grew up with the DC comic books. This movie is nothing less than masterful in its depiction of The Dark Knight. This movie has brought to life all of the ideas that have been visualized in my mind since childhood! The Dark Knight is a GOTTA SEE movie. As a matter of fact, I say it's a GOTTA SEE THRICE movie! You will not be dissapointed!

This movie was absolutely brilliant, from Christian Bale's reprisal as Batman to Heath Ledger's incredibly creepy portrayal of the Joker and the awesome CG / makeup effect of Two-Face. I would not recommend this movie for someone under 13 because kids should not see the dark side of Batman (a hero really should appear to be perfect, but as any fan of Batman could say, Bruce Wayne is anything but) and Batman's dark side really shines in this movie.
Two thumbs up, five stars, 100%, this movie is brilliant.

This movie was by far the best movie I have ever seen! The acting was brilliant by all performers. I have always been a huge fan of Heath Ledger, and am very sad about his passing, but regardless of his death, he made this movie stand out because of his role. Everyone played their character flawlessly!! I would defiantly recommend this movie to anyone that like action, suspense, and comedy.

I expected it to be good but this surpassed all expectations. Heath Ledger was incredible and should be nominated for an Oscar. The movie was long and almost felt like 2 movies in one. Just when you think it's over and they were setting up story for the next movie it continues and gives you another chapter. Christopher Nolan definitely did it again with this new version and I hope he does another.

The Dark Knight has placed Batman in the fantastic reality that he deserves. It finally answers the question "If Batman did indeed exist, how would he actually be?"
All of Nolan's characters bring justice to the comics. Not the comics of the campy 60's batman, but the comics that went back to batman's roots. The comics of the seventies that started with the revolution of Dennis O'Neill and Neal Adams under the direction of editor Julius Schwartz. Just as they revamped Batman (as well as his villains) into a fantastic reality, a deep and psychological reality, Nolan has done the same with Batman in a different medium.
The Dark Knight is a very complex movie, turning all characters, good and bad alike, into a shade of gray. Batman's boundaries are tested and in no small form. Christian Bale again plays Batman/Bruce Wayne in a brooding and paced manner, whose troubles are easily understood and empathetically felt by the audience. Gary Oldman gives a very raw and real performance as Jim Gordon. Aaron Eckhart stood up as "The White Knight," Harvey Dent.
Heath Ledger deserves every bit of recognition he is getting for this role. He has completely embraced the The Joker as a man "who just wants to watch the world burn." The Joker's humor is supposed to make you laugh and then make you feel bad for laughing, i.e. his magic tricks. The Joker has no boundaries, and in this film, neither does Ledger.
Under the direction of Christopher Nolan, the cast and crew of The Dark Knight have created a masterpiece.

Camera movements, visual fx, acting, great plot. This film has it all. It's a very fast pace movie, with lots of information to register in very few time. The story is well written, Nolan proves once again his ability as a director.
Bale does his job nicely, but we should expect more from him. All the actors play it great, but personally I didn't like Gyllenhal's performance. Heath Ledger did a great job, but I'm afraid his tragedy might influence the judgment.
Overall a movie worth the ticket. Finally after months of disappointment.

the dark night was absolutely mind-blowing. it was so unpredictable and totally worth the overpriced amount of money theaters charge these days. all the actors were amazing; heath was ridiculous; he assumed the role so well and this was one of his top performances, hands down. it was long, but exciting and i thoroughly enjoyed it.

Christian Bale continues his reign as the pinnacle of black-winged heroes in this latest addition to the Batman Saga. Action scenes are explosive and energetic while the plot continues a steady stream of character development (greatly evident in the evolution of Harvey Dent). Heath Ledger lives up to hype about performance greatly inducing a love-hate relationship with his character, the Joker. His antics, demeanour, and intensity with his part leaves no questions lingering as to his credits in the acting world. Smaller players only add to the movie, as Morgan Freeman reprises his role as Lucius Fox and Alfred again returns played by Michael Caine. Both characters evolve and continue to influence and mold the moral ramifications of Batman's daily, or nightly rather, decisions.
Oscar nod, indeed, for Heath. Though, his death leaves the world breathless and without this shining star, I think the posthumous Oscar does still depend on what other movies are to come before 2009. This is Heath's best performance in a movie, and is Oscar worthy, however (and I want it to be known that I am an extraordinary fan of Heath) an "automatic" win would do more to undermine his legacy than to highlight this performance.

If you're bothering to read this review you've probably read all the others and you're thinking one thing "Come on, it can't be THAT good... can it?" There's a reason every review is like that, it's because the answer is an emphatic YES! I don't know if I've ever seen a movie quite like it and I've definitely never seen a comic book movie anything like it (including Batman Begins...this is a whole new level). Truthfully, opening night was my third viewing. I was lucky enough to see it twice before release, one of those was in IMAX and I strongly urge you to see it in that format if at all possible) so the fact that I STILL went to a midnight screening and shelled out my money to see a movie I'd already seen twice for free should tell you something. I'll say it right now: Heath Ledger will win a posthumous Oscar for his performance. I've been reading the comic books based on Batman since 1988 and possibly the best compliment someone like myself could pay is that this was the The Joker as I'd always hoped to see him but honestly... even the comics never nailed quite like this (The Dark Knight Returns and The Killing Joke being two possible exceptions). The performance, like the movie is relentless, unapologetic and will haunt those who see it for the rest of their lives. To get specific is to spoil it so I won't do that, I promise you'll see what I mean as you're watching it. Bale, Oldman, Caine, Freeman all return to their respective roles with such understated brilliance that it's hard to believe these characters aren't real and that Gotham is just a plane ticket away. The scope of this film is incredible. It's truly an epic and one of the rare occasions where two and a half hours doesn't seem long enough.

Last night i went to see this movie at the 12:01 show! I normally am not a huge fan of action movies but this movie kept my attention the whole two and a half hours! Heath Ledger did a phenominal job as the joker. Him along with all of the special effects made this movie worth while! DEFINATELY GO SEE IT!!!!

This has to be the best Superhero movie ever produced. The Dark Night had a fluid story throughout the film. Every actor/actress' performance was vital to the films success and the cast pulled it off with class. Ledgers performance reached new levels of villainy never before achieved in a Superhero film. Great plot, great action, great actors and acting... It is much darker and more complex than Batman Begins, making it a really unique Batman movie, and especially more a unique movie in general. Christian Bale is as good as usual, and with Heath Ledger's performance, I'm afraid Jack Nicholson's Joker is from now on going to look like a cartoon character for kids... Absolutely brilliant movie, very certainly among the best movies of 2008 if not THE best.

I knew walking into the theatre that everyone was going for Heath Ledger and seeing what the fuss was about regarding his potrayal of Joker, but i was NOT prepared for how far he took it. Heath did an absolutely SPECTACULAR job protraying the Joker. He did indeed put chills down my spine and you truly cannot see the Brokeback-Julie Styles tamer- handsome knight at all. He was Joker through and through. By the little movements of lips and tounge, his random burst of psychotic laughter and giggles, to his random sadistic quips and pathological lying stories he told to a few people through out the movie. Definitely worth seeing for his potrayal alone!
Now for being an avid Harry Potter fan, it took me until the ending credits to realize Gary Oldman was in the flick! He as well did a superb job portraying Commissioner Gordon and I look forward to seeing him in the next movie.
Let's not forget Christian Bale. He was ultra-sexy for the ladies who adore him, riding an awesome motorcycle- taking the tumbler around town many times through out the movie, doing some really amazing stunts. He truly is my favorite Batman out of them all. I stay true to the old Batman's but Christian has proved to be one of the most athletic and definitely is the Bruce Wayne i've always pictured.
As for the movie in general, i felt towards the end it was a little dragged out. I found myself getting a little bored. I felt Two-face should have come around a lot faster than he did. The special effects were awesome! The scene's when Two-face came about we're very intense and graphic. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but what happened to the Chinese accountant? It's as if he suddenly fell out of the movie. The ending was AWESOME! i could not have pictured a better ending. It was so great, it had left one of my friends quite frustrated at the end, three guesses why ; ]

Although not as personally inspiring as Batman Begins, The Dark Knight still leaves you with some things to think about by the time it's over. Ledger moves the Joker more toward the pyschotic than the comedic, but isn't a man who can giggle while facing death what the Joker is all about? Batman himself doesn't seem to find any more than his usual struggle of purpose but events in film tease future anguish of a different sort.

To the say the least, The Dark Knight has been the answer to all movie-goers questions of "is there ever going to be a good action movie?" Filled with wild combat/arsenal gadgets of the future and the detailed and sadistic planning of a mere mortal, The Joker, Batman lovers, this IS the best movie ever to be made out of the series! Of course, I went to the midnight showing! You can't get enough, but be prepared to watch 2 1/2 hrs.

To call this a superhero or comic book film would totally discredit the masterpiece of a crime drama that it transcends to be. Though dealing with the typical model of 'good guy' against 'bad guy,' Christopher Nolan and the new "Bat-Crew" know how to give us exactly the Batman that we need for this day and age, and not one in tights. The days of camp are over and in are the grimy times of reality. Violence, greed, unspeakable cruelty...these themes resound in the film, but we are forced to ask a question that challenges us in our own current political climate: where do we draw the line between hero and villain? When does collateral damage become a necessity and not a choice or accident? The film does not try to glorify its hero, nor does it chastise its villains. It is up to us to decide, as an audience, as an individual, and as a citizen, what we believe justice is. Though my love for the Tim Burton Batman franchise will never dissipate, I cannot deny that Nolan's take on this dark story is more current and far more relevant. Heath Ledger's performance was nothing short of legendary; balancing insanity, and misanthropy, all the while making us laugh along with him even in the face of his merciless violence (much like Hannibal Lector). His untimely death will no doubt be the talk of next year's Oscar's, as he is sure to be nominated. Christian Bale is a sturdy Bruce Wayne/Batman, and Morgan Freeman, Michael Cain, and Gary Oldman are all on top of their game (not that they ever aren't, in all fairness). The addition of Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes(replacement to Katie Holmes), and Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/Two Face were wise choices. Both are strong actors, holding their own if not making themselves known in a film already bursting with fresh, and fascinating newness. This is a dark film for dark times for a world that barely has a Knight in sight.
