The New Standard For Superhero Films

Christopher Nolan has outdone himself, and the rest of the superhero genre as well, with The Dark Knight. A movie that would have the same impact whether it was a superhero film or not, Nolan has crafted a masterpiece in every sense of the word.
It's a beautifully shot film. When it's bright on-screen, its light and flowing. When it's dark, you feel the tension in the shadows, never knowing when someone or something will be hiding in them.
Christian Bale is wonderful as Bruce Wayne, and consequently, Batman. Here is an actor that knows his craft as well as anyone and it is evident whether you can see his face or not. Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman are great as the Bruce Wayne supporters in the film. Neither needed to do much in the film, but they still show why they are considered two of the greatest actors of all time.
And now to Heath Ledger. It's frightening that this was his last film, if only for the reason that it is one of the greatest portrayals of a villain ever put on screen. It's hard to recognize him under all the makeup, which I think makes it even that much more of performance, he IS The Joker.
The Dark Knight is one of the best films of 2008 and the best superhero movie of all time. It is a bit long but by the time you walk down the aisle and out of the theater, you'll already be planning when you are going to see it again.

I had such ridiculously high expectations of this film, and it blew all of them away. The film was simply amazing. Hopefully the academy will not over look one of the most unique performances I've seen to date in the Joker.

coulda done w/out christian bale....the absolutely annoying deep voices that batman and two face kept using and the rachel character did an absolutely horrible job....she shouldnt b hired for another movie ever. She was so dry....it ruined the movie for me. I found myself just waiting for the next heath ledger seen. He is brilliant....a genius

I went into this movie with extremely high expectations and left with my expectations fulfilled and then some. Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker was just unbelievable. I was at the edge of my seat the whole entire movie. The next Batman movie will have a lot to live up to. A definite must see!

This was an awesome movie to add to the Batman family. Heath Ledger was amazing in this movie and will be missed. The graphics, make-up, stunts, etc., were fabulous. This was an action packed super hero movie at it's best.

I had decently high expectations for this movie, but nothing had me prepared for what was to come. This movie was completely flawless. It will keep the sticklers happy by drawing from several comic sources for storylines and altercations, the action is great, the acting is great, you can't ask for more in a movie. The Dark Knight was also one of the most emotional movies I have ever seen as far as being able to make me anxious and I was actually a little queezy through parts of the movie because I was so nervous about the things happening. And last but not least, the dialogue and psychology of the characters was FASCINATING. I never thought I'd say this about a super hero flick and not feel silly, but this is one of my favorite films of all time.

The entire film was littered with Phenomenal acting. The Joker was THE best villain to ever be captured in a motion picture. Heath Ledgers performance was astounding to say the least. Throughout the entirety of the film I was on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what the fiendish Joker would do next.

The theater was packed and it was hard to get into the movie. But In the end I got great seating. (EVERYONE WAS EXCITED FOR THIS MOVIE'S RELEASE)
Overall, I would like to say that this is probably Heath Ledger's BEST WORK! I can see why he was "too into the movie" and got depressed and overdosed; his character acting was PERFECT! NO JOKES you will LOVE the joker! Christian Bale himself did some AMAZING ACTING!
The story of this movie was just outstanding! Up until the end of the movie, it had you thinking. THE SCRIPT was AMAZING! Every word they chose to use in the movie, you could tell they REALLY thought hard for the right words. THE SPEcial effects will BLOW YOU OUT!!!
In short, Its a must see movie of the summer! I am probably going to see it about 4x this summer! I would say that this movie has got to be THE BEST MOVIE for the Summer, then comes Iron Man....but this is a little better because its like they didn't even have to try so HARD and the movie came out FANTASTIC!

Heath Ledger honestly made this movie.
His performance as the Joker was phenomenal. There wasn't one moment where you get that little cringe of this-could-have-been-done-better.
As for the plot and events in the movie, this is by far the darkest batman yet.
Their leniency to follow the comics has always been apparent, and there are obvious reasons for it. This one really works.
Incredibly enjoyable. At certain points the theatre broke out clapping, and at others you could hear gasps and see people peering out between their fingers.
Stunning movie. Must see.
Can't wait for the next one!

Went to see this at 12:01AM and was totally worth it! Christian Bale was spectacular and Heath Ledger was amazing - all the hype about his performance was justified! He created a character that you will always remember.
I thought this second installment was even better than the first - Batman Begins. Go see it! You will not be disappointed at all!

My wife and I saw the midnight showing of Dark Knight and I have to say even during this late hour it was worth it all. The action was great. The batman and Joker battles still magnificent. Joker, OMG, Joker was exceptional and to think he's not around for its opening.......well KUDOS to him in his grave.

The movie and the story were incredible. The effects were cool but can be trying on the eyes at the end. Heath was awesome as the Joker whenever he was on stage. Batman was the same as in Batman Begins which means that his lines are cheesy and short. I am sure after I watch it 4-5 times more that this will go away the same as Batman Begins. DONT see this movie just because one of the great actors died after filming it, GO SEE IT because it is a great action/crime drama. Even those that are not Batman or superhero movie fans will like this. 2 1/2 hours long so dont go buying the extra large coke before sitting down, you will regret it later. Good news, you will want to see it again even if just for the part you missed when running to the washroom. Gary Oldman does an incredible job also as Gordon. Didnt like the new Rachel Doss as much but I guess Tom Cruise wouldnt let his princess out of the castle.

heath ledger portrays the joker perfectly was never a fan of heath ledger but i was always fan of the joker and because of his performance now Im a fan of both it is a shame that we will not be able to see him play this role again. As for the rest of the movie It was great as well

This film is a little long, but I only noticed that once, it keeps you on the edge of your seat pretty much the whole film. Heath Ledger plays the joker unbelievably well, I can see why he went insane from that role. Overall, very good special effects and sound quality. Very good story, and Christian Bale does a great job as Batman yet again. Also if you look deeper, beneath the surface of the film, there are some very disturbing yet very true realities about human morals, behavior, and the sociological and psychological truths that define human imperfection. Overall, a very very good movie, you will not be disappointed.

This dark, action-packed movie does not disappoint. Heath Ledger's Joker is a twisted menace and packs more gut-wrenching evil than Nicholson's lighter, almost silly protrayal. Christian Bale is brooding and angry as Batman but his lighthearted playboy "face" is delightfully disarming. Eckhart as Harvey Dent gives a *searing* performance and promises great returns as this character. With smoky, sexy Maggie Gyllenhall playing Rachel, Katie Holmes is NOT missed. Overall a taut, satisfying addition to the genre.
