I have a hard time giving any movie 5 starts. That said, I really like this movie. I am not one of these people with a long history of Batman and strong pre-conceived notions. I just thought that it was a fun movie. It was action packed and enjoyable to watch. However, don't attend thinking that this is going to be joyous and uplifting. It is the opposite: dark and heavy. The ending is unexpected and you will likely leave the movie pondering.

The movie was excellent, the writing was superb, the actors were phenomenal. It is hard to believe the movies was more than 2 hours long, it seemed so much shorter.

Heath Ledger was simply amazing; he made the Joker the most believable character. Definitely an Oscar caliber performance. Nonstop action and a fantastic plot surely will make this an Oscar nominated film.

WOW--what a movie, what a story, an actual story, all in 1 movie. The special effects/stunts in this movie are absolutely amazing!! This is one heck of a show, & you will leave this thinking that you actually got your money's worth for a change. I'm not one that usually goes for movies that are over 2 hours, but HONESTLY, when the movie was over, I didn't even notice that it was over 2 hours, because I was SO ENTERTAINED. The performances are all incredible, & the Joker is more sinister than ever. I'm DEFINITELY going to have to watch this one again, & I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND THAT IF YOU DON'T GO TO ANY OTHER MOVIE THIS SUMMER, MAKE SURE TO SEE THIS ONE, YOU WILL BE SORRY IF YOU DON'T!! And by the way, I WILL be going to see the sequel.

the overall film was amazing. the joker was how dc comics intended to be like; a sick, twisted individual who doesn't care what havoc his actions cause. It wasn't about the money or glory, it was all about discord and strife. Heath Ledger's performance was the best this year! Christian Bale is the resurrector of franchises. Watch this movie.

I knew that this movie wouldn't disappoint but I never thought it could be that good. Heath Ledger's performance is nothing short of legendary. Bearing my own selfishness in mind, it really sucks that he can't reap the rewards for a performace like that. The only problem now is that any future sequel, especially one with a new Joker, can never be as good as The Dark Knight.

Took my 9 year old grandson with some reservations about the violence; not any more than the video games he plays on a regular basis.
I am glad I took him! He and I both really enjoyed our best movie event in the last several years!
Acting: Great! Action: Great! Enjoyment Factor: 5 Star Plus....
A must see for any action movie buff and especially for those who enjoyed DC Comics from our younger days (I am 53 years old!)

As people say, the Joker stole the show in this movie. His portrayal is closest to the animated version, for those who know what I mean. There is more screen time for Morgan Freeman and Michael Cane, which is always good. Bale's performance seems somewhat minimal almost (too strained to sound raspy when he talks--like he's trying to sound like Kevin Conroy, the animated Batman), while I find the set of Gotham City this time around extremely lacking. All Gothic architecture is gone, and with it part of the mystic.
The previous movie had better wide angle shots, and somehow Batman Begins seems "crisper" on film than this. The movie is long, a good story mind you, but too long at 2 1/2 hours. There are moments when you realize how long the movie is; when there is a vacuum of where a soundtrack should be (armoured car chase) or the story meanders (last 45 minutes). All in all, The Dark Knight is a good movie, but with the exception of the Joker's performance, I preferred Batman Begins.

Heath Ledger's performance is defintley oscar worthy!!!the rest of the movie was ok,good action scenes and the joker made you laugh and snicker!the only thing that annoyed me besides the people i went with ,lol was at the end you couldnt hear what commisner gorden said to his son cause the dang back ground music was too loud and all i got out of it was "dark knight".i also didnt care for Batman's voice.it was like 1 of those voices from thetruth .com (cigerette commerical)....but then again the joker siad it best."why so serious?"

By far THE BEST Batman movie! Heath Ledger was awesome and did a GREAT job playing The Joker. There were several things that happened that I did not see coming......it totally keeps you on your toes. Christian Bale is such a believable Batman, and the love I've always had for Batman (as a childhood series, and comic book reader) is only intensified by the way Christian portrays him.

You have to see this movie it's a must see! Batman is cocky and perfectly arrogant. The Joker is just plain insane with disturbing issues in his life that complicated into a sadistic maniac. The Joker is logical, hateful, calculating, and just plain scary. Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker is so good no other actor could play the role in any future movie. The movie has points in it that really make you understand how society can be easily influenced and fear can control people.

OMG, if you like this movie, your level of understanding movie is worse than elementary schoolers. I watched every batman series, this is worst ever. 2.5hrs long, pointless story, tried to be fancy movie (Absl no), worse acting (specially Batman's voice) and make audience confused. Waste your money + spend 2.5hrs seating in the movie = made me to create movietickets.com log-in.

Better than I expected.....I can't get the good vs evil theme out of my mind...from the dark scenes and vivid colors to the ferry riders' decisions... the theme is repeated... The Orchestration complemented rather than over imposed on the action sequences... OH!... and the acting and direction were great... The best movie of the year (to date).. HL deserves a supporting actor award...

I can never get enough Christian Bale. Heath Ledger's Joker was fascinating. I like how his voice sounded like Jack Nicholson's. Maggie Gyllenhall is always interesting to watch as well. An excellent cast.

The acting, from all cast members, was superb. Chris Nolan proves, again, that you can create a real world, based on a comic book, and inhabit that world with real human people. What would it be like if there were actual masked heroes? The Dark Knight, like it's predecessor, Batman Begins, answers that question. And ups the ante.
Five stars.

What the first movie lacked in over the top action, this one has it. The story here is less about Batman and more about the Joker and Harvey Dent/Two-Face. Heath Ledger's performance is well done, though not as "fantastic" as the pre-release hype has stated. He does an excellent job bringing out the psychopathic, chaos loving charachteristics of his character, to the point that the viewer might leave the theatre asking what happened to Bruce Wayne or Batman... Enjoyed this very much and look forward to the next chapter, too bad Heath Ledger's Joker won't be back. Just wondering who might pick up the ball and run with it?

This movie finally portrays Batman as he was always intended - an individual twisted by his past and yet trying to bring some kind of meaning out of the chaos. He becomes increasingly unable to connect to those closest to him, while serving the "greater good" of the Gotham community. The tension of those two sides was palpable in this extraordinary telling of the Batman story. Heath Ledger? What a loss! Like so many promising young actors who died way too young - we will always wonder how he would have matured in his craft over time. His performance was not "over spun" by the critics as a tribute to his death. He fully earned the credits. Two-Face was gruesome to behold - but the only unbelievable actor in the group. While he looked the part - he just didn't come across as believable to me in his sincerity. It wasn't until he actually "turned" into Two-Face that he was believable. They needed someone who was a more sympathetic character actor than Eckhart to play this part. He was certainly "pretty" enough - but there was just no emotional tug between his performance and the audience. We should have LOVED him and been torn when he turned - instead it was just a ho-hum moment. The toys? FABULOUS! I was thrilled that the special effects were extremely engaging and yet stopped short of taking over the movie. Perfect balance. Morgan Freeman - I miss you in other venues - but I'm so glad you are still in this series! Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine are perfect supports for Christian Bale's portrayal of Batman. Christopher Nolan is an extraordinary Director with an almost mystical understanding of the Batman character. Please don't let this be the last one!!

The Dark Knight was the darkest Batman yet, and the performances were excellent. The score by Hanz Zimmer and James Newton Howard was pulsating and organic which gave the images on the screen a sleek intensity.
Not sure the love for Rachel Dawes was really as clear as it was needed, perhaps due to the performance of the character. So much of the inner turmoil of major characters depended on their love for her and it just didn't seem so real.
Heath Ledger's performance was understated and masterly.
His monologue upside down was a performance to be remembered.
It captured brilliantly the themes of the Batman universe and perhaps our own.
Cristopher Nolan brought the straight play to the screen. His choreography, the nuances of dialogue, each moment was placed down on film with purpose and it came together beautifully.

Two face should have stayed for a sequel ...
