This movie has more "heart" and drama than past Pixar films. If you bring small children, they may be too young to get through the dramatic portions of the film and some of the scenes of peril may be frightening. There were a few couples who brought thier small children and they were asking questions during the first segment of the film and were noticably scared by the zeppelin sequences. The classic Pixar humor does shine throughout...
The first thing anyone seeing this needs to realize is that it is based on a graphic comic series, strictly for an adult audience. The graphic violence and sex were part of the comic series and are (to some viewers dismay) an integral part of the story. That said, it is visually stunning and the characters are all flawed, so it could fall under the genre of crime drama. Overall, the sex and violence not withstanding, it was enjoyable to watch and required paying attention to every detail.
It seems many reviewers were expecting a repeat of the Casino Royale introduction of Daniel Craig as Bond. Instead they got a full dose of what makes Craig the best Bond yet, the ability to play the character and pull off a "quantum" of stunts. Actually the movie successfully follows on the heals of Casino Royale and continues to build Bond as a viscerally driven British agent. What needs to be considered is the fact that Casino Royale (re)started from the beginning, so the Bond we get is an evolving individual. In addition, the movie delivers on all cylinders from an action standpoint. Craig has reinvented the genre and it is his to develop and build upon. I look forward to the next installment.
What the first movie lacked in over the top action, this one has it. The story here is less about Batman and more about the Joker and Harvey Dent/Two-Face. Heath Ledger's performance is well done, though not as "fantastic" as the pre-release hype has stated. He does an excellent job bringing out the psychopathic, chaos loving charachteristics of his character, to the point that the viewer might leave the theatre asking what happened to Bruce Wayne or Batman... Enjoyed this very much and look forward to the next chapter, too bad Heath Ledger's Joker won't be back. Just wondering who might pick up the ball and run with it?
