In general the movie was excellent. Heath Ledger was fantastic. It was slighttttly long (150 minutes) but overall I loved it.

Hands down, the best superhero movie I have ever seen. Heath Ledger's performance was mesmerizing and created a palable, delicious, tension everytime he appeared on the screen. If his performance doesn't garner an Oscar nomination, the Academy is irrelevent. the rest of the cast was also excellent and the Nolan Brother's script was spot-on with a plot that covered enormous ground while maintaining plausability and cohesion.

I really was not excited to see this movie. Thought it was going to be too "dark" but I was intrigued from the very beginning and would gladly view it again. Great story, characters and "all those wonderful toys".

I was a little worried about the length of this movie but found that time passed quickly. The action was consistent and engrossing. Although it's been said many times, Heath Ledger did a masterful job at The Joker; his acting was superb and his quirky mouth movements just added to the "weirdness" of his character that made it so believable.
I would strongly recommend this movie to family and friends alike.

Like Greek Theater of yore, this film was able to cathartically capture the underlying fears of Americans today in a very exciting fashion! Can't give away the ending but look for threads of what's going on in our country with regard to the world at large and do appreciate the incredible acting of Heath Ledger: his performance would have surely, and should still post-humously, garner him an Oscar. Unbelievable performances...

I went in thinking Jack Nicholson couldn't be topped as Joker. Heath Ledger changed my mind. I have not been a fan of the darker direction the batman movies and cartoons have taken; it's difficult to enjoy them with young kids. However I thoughly enjoyed this movie, and when my kids are old enough we will enjoy it together. Great Action; Great Storyline; Great movie. Ledgers portrail of Joker was Outstanding.

Save your $$$$!! Go see anything else but this movie. The title is correct, it was definiely a DARK NIGHT at the movies last night. This movie is so LOOOOOONG that you get to sleep at any time and wake up without missing a beat. It was soooooo predictable that finally may we have an AMEN TO BATMAN!!! I've always loved Christian Bale's perfomances, from "Empire of the Sun" to "Henry V" to "Little Women" to "Equilibrium" and all points beyond (don't get me started on "The Prestige!"). He always turns in a noteworthy performance. He did so this time as well.
The only thing that eclipsed the quality of Bale's performance was that of Heath Ledger. His portrayal of the Joker was both exhilarating and disturbing. I haven't seen acting this engrossing in a long time. The great pity is I will never see Ledger's acting again.
As for the movie itself, the special effects and stunt scenes were amazing and not too "stock" in terms of standard Hollywood effects. The plot was above par for an action film, taking risky turns that eliminate characters I thought would be in all the sequels.
My only complaint about the entire movie (and it's a small one) is that Bale's "Batman voice" is just silly. At times he is unintelligible when he speaks in the hoarse throaty voice he has for the character. I'd like to see Batman with perhaps a bit of a deeper voice than his alter ego, but not the voice of a 70 year old chain smoker.
Aside from that, this movie was just amazing, and worth the wait.

You have to watch the movie to actually feel and get the same experience as I did. This was just packed with action from the beginning. Heath Ledger is/was the movie. The way he transformed into this character is just pure genius. Everyone has to see this movie.

Now for those who need more convincing...
This production team has a vision for the Batman saga that is pitch perfect. The previous series, save perhaps for Tim Burton's treatment with Michael Keaton donning the Caped Crusader's cowl, was cartoonish, much too derivative of the animated series. These current productions are set in, what seems to be, the real world (TDK filmmakers did nothing to disguise Chicago, including Illinois license plates). I believe this tack allows the audience to face and deal with the underlying themes of the Batman story: truth, honor, integrity, et al. The previous series hid all of that under poor acting/casting choices (george clooney, The Governator) and funky costumes. Another thing about set location: Batman Begins was not filmed in Chicago. It will be interesting to see if future films are set in another "Gotham." Perhaps this is an attempt by the filmmakers to portray Bruce Wayne's Gotham as Batman's creator intended: Gotham is every city. It is your city. The character traits that Bruce Wayne and Batman exhibit are needed and valid everywhere, not just New York or Chicago. Points to ponder...which is another reason I like these two films: you exit the theatre thinking not just about the special effects, but about your own life and morality.
Bravo.

A real must for Batman fans. Coupled with Bale's first role this takes a darker more believable development of the Batman character and sets the stage in an excellent manner for several sequals. Unfortunately, Heath Ledger delivered such an excellent role as Joker, he will be a tough act to follow. Especially since the set up seems to make the Joker as a reoccuring nemisis for the Caped Crusader. Can't wait to see the rebuilt Wayne Manner and new Batcave.

I thought people were sooo crazy about the movie because of Heath Ledger and the fact that he died, but boy was I wrong! Heath Ledger's performance is INCREDIBLE. The joker is crazy, but the best thing is that he thinks he is normal and that makes him even more crazy. During the whole movie I was just looking for more joker scenes, he was absolutely amazing. NOBODY can top his performance as the joker... he forever will me remember by this movie and his fantastic role. All I got to say about the movie is.... the joker made this movie what it is.

I was surprised that my friends and I really enjoyed The Dark Knight. My friends are I are in our 60's and usually don't see this kind of film. Heath Ledger was outstanding as The Joker. Too bad he died way before his time but I think he will be nominated for an Oscar. Eric Roberts, Gary Oldham, et al, were brilliant. It's always good to see Michael Caine & Morgan Freeman in film.
My only caution was that it was very, very loud.

This is one of the most exciting movies I have ever seen. Although it was a long movie, the last half had me mesmorized. It seemed like Ledger was made for the role. Bale, Caine and Eckhart did a terrific job. I would recommend this movie to anyone.

WOW, what a great movie. As has been mentioned Heath Ledger as "The Joker" will go down in history as one of the greatest acting jobs ever. The only down side was that Ledger was sooooooo good it made Bale's portrayl of Batman seem sophamoric. Not that Bale was bad, he still is not one of my favorite batmans, but Ledger hits it out of the park.

Awesome performances! I have been a Bale fan since "Empire of the Sun" and a Ledger fan since the TV series "Roar." The Joker was a scene stealer throughout. I was captivated by his insanity and his Hannibal Lector ability to fascinate. Even had Heath not tragically died, his portrayal of psychotic evil would be the epitomy of his career. Evil with no redeeming qualities is a tough act to follow. I enjoyed this movie immensely! I am a 61 year old grandmother of three (took a grandson to see this movie) and it has generational appeal. Aaron Eckardt is very easy on the eyes as well as Christian Bale.
