Heath Ledger's portrayal of a serial killer in Gotham City is mesmorizing. I believe his role was played far superior to that of Jack Nicholson and really made the movie. It was action packed, tied up all the loose ends, and there were never really any drawn out lulls to make you think of how long yhou had been in the theater. Great movie, and I highly recommend seeing it.

The movie was amazingly exciting from start to finish. Each character, save the silly assistant district attorney, takes their character to heights unknown. However, it is Heath ledger who outshines them all. He takes the Joker and gives him a cunning and sinister twist. The Joker is the main event. This movie deserves no less than two snaps and a thumbs up!

Certainly a very good movie but the reviews make it out to be the best ever. Maybe most reviewers never saw movies made before 1990.
There were plot holes and it went on a bit too long.
I never saw Heath Ledger in anything before (OK, I don't go to that many movies anymore) but this guy was a show stealer. He was outstanding and truly made this a special movie.
Once again, very good, but best ever action movie--hardly.

One of the first times when all the hype was warranted and my expectations were exceeded. Great story that can be taken on many levels - - straight hero vs. villian; but, what makes this movie great are the moral and ethical questions it raises. Don't look for happy endings and, please, don't take kiddos - - this is not a movie for pre-teens.
Performances were stellar and the attention to details were terrific. Not your mother's Adam West, Michael Keaton, etc. Not your father's Cesar Romero or Jack.
Heath Ledger was amazing. Just as terrific were the other performances (overshadowed for apparent reasons) - - Christian Bale, Aaron Echhart (Harvey/Two-Face was really great - - true to comic roots on the look), Gary Oldman, Michael Caine.... everyone.
Did I mention I liked this - - the movie stays with you.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I really enjoyed seeing this over the weekend. The acting is very good all across the board, with only a few minor characters that are probably extraneous. Heath Ledger's performance is award-worthy.
The movie does not feel long (even at 2.5 hours) and the plot moves along quickly. Although somewhat violent, it is not out of place. It's dark and thrilling, and you really get into the characters quickly. I would not take my children to it (there were a lot in the theater) but the crowd seemed generally very happy at the end.

Terrifically dark. Probably the best "joker" characterization ever given and closest to the comic book. Christian Bale makes a wonderful and complex "batman". Although Michael Keaton did a fine job in the first and second movies, Bale has provided us with a great replacement who has showed that same complexity.

NO SPOILERS...The movie is aptly titled; this is a very dark, sinister journey not only into the warped minds of the villians, but also into the tortured duality of Batman himself. Christian Bale delivers a superb performance as the Caped Crusader in his second installment of the franchise, and the depth of the character that may have been lacking in his first attempt has found it's footing with this latest release. I found Maggie Gylanhal's "Rachel" to be a bit cold and insincere, and am I the only one who has a hard time differentiating her from Kirsten Dunst? (I swear they were separated at birth.) Harvey Dent (aka future Two Face), portrayed by Aaron Eckhart, becomes Gotham's much needed White Knight if only for a little while, and Mr. Eckhart did a great job lapsing into that pseudo-psychotic split persona that comes to be Two Face.
Now for the Heath Ledger review...let me first state that the hype over his portrayal of the Joker (especially with his untimely death in January of this year overshadowing many of what should be unbiased and fair reviews) IS NOT OVERRATED. Where Jack Nicholson's Joker was funny and a bit sinister, Ledger's Joker is one of the most whacked, psychotic, dark and absolutely creepy villainous characters I have ever seen portrayed onscreen. My mournful feelings at the end of the movie were not from thinking of the talented life of an actor that had been extinguished too soon, but for the more selfish reason that I would not be able to see more of the character he brought to life in the next movie. Does he deserve an Oscar nomination because the role was great and he is dead? No. He deserves a nomination because the role was great, end of story. (Of course, Oscar nominations are a ways off and we have yet to see the other performances to be submitted, but if I were on the committee, he would be on my short list thus far.)
You don't often equate Michael Caine with comic relief, but he wears it well. And as the one constant in Bruce Wayne's two worlds he delivers that strong, solid presence that any crimefighting semi-superhero would love to have on his side. Morgan Freeman...nuf said. Although, as the Dark Knight falls into an ever darkening place in the effort to defeat Gotham's newest terrors, Freeman's Dr. Fox must make some ethical choices that we may not know the outcome of until the next movie.
The stuntwork and special effects are top notch, and the fright factor comes more in the form of a few seat-jumpers and less in the action itself. Having said that, Two Face is NOT a pretty site after his transformation, I strongly suggest no small children, no matter how much they like Batman.
Even though it's 2 1/2 hours, three if you count previews, it doesn't feel like it at all as the action and storyline keep it flowing very well. Overall, so far, this is my "go see it a second time" movie of the summer. I can't wait to see what I missed the first time!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I was a little skeptical before I saw it, since many movies these days don't live up to the hype that surrounds them before opening weekend. I also thought that there was no way Heath Ledger could be as great in it as the critics had trumpeted. Well, the movie was better than the hype, and Ledger was amazing. I completely forgot it was him (obviously he didn't look or talk like himself) as he was devilishly evil -- which means he played his role brilliantly. The plot was intricate and clever, and it didn't seem as long as it was. I feel that Christian Bale didn't get enough credit; he was great as well and was more human in this one as he showed more emotion and battled his own self-worth. My only complaint was that it was difficult to hear the dialogue in some scenes, since the music and explosions overcame them, but that may have just been the theater and not the movie itself. I will definitely buy the DVD.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

One of the Best Crime Thrillers of All Time

First off, let me say that this is not a comic book movie. It has comic book characters, but the action, storyline, and character development relate more to a crime thriller than a comic book. It's foothold on realism is awesome for a movie with a guy in a bat mask. Secondly, this is not a movie for kids. The violence and imagery made me jump and cringe at times (Two-Face). I would not recommend taking a child to see this unless you, as a parent, view it first and deem it alright for your kids.
Let me say that after this film Joker, in cinema, is a dead character for the time being. Because of Heath Ledger's portrayal of the character I see no other studio or actor being able to use this character and make it worthwhile. Ledger's performance reminded me of Woody Harrelson in Natural Born Killers and his psychological effect on people reminded me, although slightly, of Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, he is that convincing as The Joker. Christian Bale, of course, did a phenomenal job as Bruce Wayne/Batman, but the same thing that irritated me about Batman Begins irritates me here. The alteration of his voice when he puts on the mask doesn't seem to fit to me. Otherwise, he was spot on.
Now, despite the flames that I think I will get from this statement, allow me to say that the main character of this story arc and, by far, the most developed support character I have ever seen in a movie of this type is Aaron Eckhart's Harvey "Two-Face" Dent. Eckhart did an amazing job as the twisted burn victim. The psychological impact of first seeing him after the accident was jarring and his way of taking the character through it's tormented arc was amazing. Props to Eckhart for making Two-Face a reality. My only complaint is that even though Dent is a major player in the film, his transition from White Knight to sadistic killer is too quick. I felt myself longing for split sentences and warring personalities. However, the portrayal was realistic and fit in well to Nolan's take on the Batman franchise.
See this movie in theaters, see it twice, do whatever you feel you need to do, but SEE THIS MOVIE! You won't be sorry.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
