This action thriller explored the moral fibers of the "good guys" and the "bad guys." As Batman ponders whether to hang up his wings, the villains rage and threaten to take Gotham City over for themselves. The Joker, given a new, intensely dark persona by the late Heath Ledger in what will likely be considered the best work of his career, challenges Batman to look inside himself and see if they are not, after all, more alike than not. He also manages to combine scenes of evil with dark humor. Great action scenes, intense but not graphic or gratuitous violence, and entertaining dialogue come together in the end to create a great movie deserving of the hype from critics and fans alike.

since I grew up on comic books, I found this adaptation to be a good blend of action movie and fantasy. If you want everything to make logical sense don't bother to see it.
However, it does reflect the fear we are seeing and feeling in our country, and on that level I thought it was very realistic.

For me, the movie was somewhat of a disappointment. As almost all of the critics have stated, Heath Ledger was amazing: probably the best character performance ever in a superhero movie. As for the movie itself, the rest paled in comparison to The Joker. I'm ok with the lack of a happy ending, but who ever heard of a superhero movie where our hero is incompetent? Batman pretty much never succeeds at anything and his actions result in chaos, death, and despair. Could Christopher Nolan not have let him get one thing right, the poor, pointy-eared bastard? Geez. Also, the high-tech gadgetry got a little too silly at times. It was a very good movie, but if Heath had not died, it would never have had the buzz to propel it to the biggest opening ever, and those others of you who saw it also know in your hearts that I type the truth.

The Dark Night is by far the best of the Batman series. The characters have finally evolved from the cartoonish scripting of the previous batman movies. The acting was fantastic and the cinematography was spectacular. This is the must see movie of the year.

This movie was incredible. The performances by all the actors was incredible. The story had so much depth and was intelligent. It kept you on your feet and kept you wondering what was next. Some of the story was predictable, but that didn't even matter. Heath Ledger as the joker was amazing. He played the role so well that you couldn't even tell that he was Heath Ledger. He convinced you that he was the joker. He was such a creepy and disturbing character, in a good way. The action scenes were also incredible. They were so life like and didn't seem animated like some other action scenes in other movies. Overall one of the most amazing movies.

This movie lives up to all the hype that has been surrounding it. Heath Ledger is unrecognizable as "the Joker". He truly went to another place to play such a "messed-up" character. Hope he does receive an Oscar bid for this performance. The action scenes are great!

Phenomenal summer flick. A must see! The joker was the best . Special effects were amazing especially when the bat flies. Never seemed long even though it is. If you are a Batman fan you will love it and even non fans will be entertained.

christopher nolan did a wonderful job on capturing this movie. this movie will go down in history as one of the greatest movie ever mad. it took number one (beating out the godfather) on IMDB'S 250 greatest movies of all time. Kudos to heath ledger no one on this is earth could of played a better joker, he will be greatley missed in holly wood.

After immeasurable skepticism toward seeing "Batman Begins" when it was first released and then being surprisingly pleased after finally giving in, I'll be the first to admit that I felt a little awkward about my desire to want to see "The Dark Knight". There was a part of me that was perhaps naively hopeful for a genuinely worthy movie experience that could somehow compare to the, in my opinion, brilliant and much-needed reprisal that the caped crusader received from "Batman Begins". Now, having seen the latest installment, I can say without a doubt that the Batman theatrical bloodline has secured its future.
Setting aside the anticipation for seeing Heath Ledger's final role, which some have argued helped to open the door for his downward spiral because of his need to completely submerge himself into the character and couldn't help himself to leave it behind when the workday was through, I was genuinely interested to see how Ledger's interpretation of the Joker could compare to the witting, sadistic, unpredictable, and admittedly guilty-indulgence-sort-of-joy-for-watching Jack Nicholson version. In the end, the two have nothing to compare. Nicholson's Joker gave its merit for the script and genre at hand, a turning at the time for filmmakers and moviegoers alike that was well suited for its intended purpose. Since those days, however, the Batman enterprise has received several discerning blows, ridiculous makeovers, and albeit far too many ludicrous budgets to take it seriously had it continued in the same vein.
Just as Christian Bale had been able to rejuvenate and virtually breathe life back into the character of Batman, Heath Ledger has brought back the sinister, malice-minded, and eerily unpredictable Joker that comic fans have longed for. His rendition felt both brilliant and bold, enthralling the audience from start to finish and leaving most covering their eyes in unpredictable anticipation of what he may be capable of doing next.
Characters aside, the storyline for the movie seemed just as noteworthy, leaving behind any feeling of security one might have while watching and opening the door for true tragedy and believable chaotic hopelessness. Both elements are needed to sustain the belief of a Gotham gone so wrong that the Dark Knight must be both hailed and shunned for his heroic feats, and both are delivered wonderfully.
Although I wouldn't recommend exceptionally young children be brought in tow, I would definitely recommend the film for both Batman fans and moviegoers that may be simply looking for a great story, cinematic fervor, and an enjoyable ride that suspends time enough to make two-and-a-half hours seem to pass without notice.

The Dark Knight was awesome. I was lucky enough to be able to watch it in the IMAX, and even though our film cut out about 3 times (thanks, inattentive projectionists...), I was still very excited and in to the movie. It's very intense and fast-paced, so don't fall asleep (I don't see how you could.). That being said, Heath Ledger did a fantastic job as the Joker, Aaron Eckhart is awesome as Harvey Dent, and Christian Bale, per usual, is excellent as billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne. And some other guy.
Go see this right meow.

Great flick. Packed with more than just stereotypical superhero slug-fests. There are multiple plotlines going on involving not only the Joker terrorizing Gotham, but the love triangle with Bruce Wayne, Harvey Dent, and Rachel. Then there's the money laundering thing with the Chinese Mob, and Wayne Industries, etc. It's filled with enough things for three movies. ANd yet it doesn't suffer from too many characters like the 90's Bat-movies, or Spider-MAn 3. It's a helluva ride, and Heath Ledger puts on what will no doubt go down in history as one of the most menacing villains on film. And Two-Face is more of a tragic figure than he has ever been in any medium. This is the movie event of the year without a doubt!

Even though this movie was 2 1/2 hrs long you would never notice due to all the action and the great anticipations of what would happen next. Christian Bale was the perfect choice in the revising of Batman to his original bases and Heath Ledgers performance was amazing Oscar worthy. I am looking forward already to the next Batman/Dark Knight Movie. This a must see Movie and it's one that should be seen on the BIG SCREEN so get to your theatres and view it as it should be.

This was an amazing movie. Heath Ledger's performance has been mentioned frequently but Aaron Eckhardt and Christian Bale put in amazing performances as well. This movie took the franchise to another level and I can't wait to see a sequel to this. "The Caped Crusader" possibly? Introduce Robin maybe? The Penguin, Freeze? I can't wait to see Dark Knight again!

Masterful directing, dark, and emotional. Despite (or in spite of) all the hype, Heath steals the show with an amazing Joker but the rest of the cast puts in great performances along the way. More people less technology also draws you into the fray. Much darker than other Batman movies, and much longer. They could have taken about 10 minutes out of the end but overall a great movie!

Heath Ledger was phenomenal! His performance makes the movie worth seeing. However, I was not impressed with the overall story line. It seemed to drag at times. It is too bad that Katie Holmes didn't return to play Rachael Doss. Maggie Gylenhall was too sweet. It might just be me, but I don't picture and assistant DA being such a nice girl. Don't get me wrong; I enjoyed the movie. For some reason I was expecting more.

I am not even a Batman fan but the hype for this movie was so huge I had to go, and I was not disappointed. The movie was very well made, with great affects, and great actors, but definitely Heath stole the show. All eyes were on him and when the audience first saw his face in the first scene there was a group sigh...crazy...like nothing I have ever experienced before in a theatre. Needless to say, don’t miss out on seeing this great young actor’s final complete movie…RIP Heath
