In my opinion...a sequel Must surpass the original in the story and characters in order to make a great film. The Dark Knight does both. I haven't been this haapy with a true sequel since Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back. Don't get me wrong. There are other good sequels out there, but with classic storytelling and character portrayal by everyone from the beginning of the movie till the end? I see why everyone in the theater, including myself, stood up at the end of the film and applauded. Nolan did an excellent job with the realism of a comic book hero. And don't get me started on the wonderful casting Bale, Eckhart, Ledger, who will be missed greatly for his Joker rendition, Caine, Freeman, Oldman, and etc. and etc. Like I said before...in my opinion...Batman fan or not. This is truly a classic is storytelling, just when you think you know what's going to happen, a twist here and there makes you think different.

Is The Dark Knight as good as everyone is saying? Quite simply, yes. This movie deserves every amount of praise lavished onto it. This is no ordinary superhero movie, this is a character and dialogue driven, not action oriented. Christian Bale, Heath Ledger and Aaron Eckhart deliver brilliant performances. Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman inject solid performances also. This is a must see!

This movie was incredible i didnt want it to end... it was 2 1/2 hrs long and it kept getting better till the very end... all the actors/actress were amazing . Especially Christian Bale and Heath Ledger... I mean i normally could see a movie once and i'm good... but this movie i could see a few times ...Christopher Nolan directed a masterpiece, this movie was put together so well that I truly can say that i have hard time finding any criticisms towards it. 5 stars go see it!!!!!!

I went to a 11:45 showing and was worried about staying awake through the whole thing. Obviosuly I had nothing to worry about because the story line and action kept me interested throughout. I especially enjoyed the way they continue to develop the characters. This is the best of all the batman movies.

was a very interesting movie. I enjoy watching
Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker.
Seeing Two-Face was a nice suprise.
These batman characters seem a bit darker
in connection with the original comic book.

This is the best movie of the Summer! Heath Ledger's performance was incredible. It was a little creepy to see how well he played the part though. Over all, I highly recommend the movie.

I went into this movie half reluctant, the first batman was ok but had alot of talking! Not nearly enough action! but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. the movie was long but it didnt seem to drag on. It made a smooth transition throughout the full 2.5 hrs and had enough action to keep the audience on their toes. I would recommend this movie to anyone that likes a good action flick.

Best movie since Titanic. Will see again at least once. The plot was slick, the acting was incredible. It was a long movie that felt like a short movie - didn't want it to end. People leaving the theatre were already planning to see it again.

This is a very good sequel to Batman Begins. I can understand the excitement for it, but I still don't think it's worth waiting in line for a whole day... no movie is.
Cons: Gotham city had too much "Chicago" feel to it (and yes, was shot in Chicago). The previous film was in the same location, but it was altered to be more like Gotham City. Where were the super-elevated train tracks? I also didn't dig Batman being more exposed - In the previous movie he moved like a shadow and used theatrics with his "batness" to strike fear into his enemies...this time around he looked more like a guy wearing a stiff bat-suit and didn't obscure the use of his gadgets.
Pros: Heath Ledger as the Joker was simply awesome... I can understand why Jack Nicholson got the jitters when he heard Heath was reinventing the Joker. The treatment of Two Face was a significant improvement over Tommy Lee Jones' version... I still remember back then wondering...why is Two Face trying to 1-up the Joker in the laugh department? And did he raid a donkey show for his outfit? Joel Schumacher must die...
All in all, I really enjoyed this movie and recommend seeing it in theatres.

This film is everything you've heard and more. Notice I used the word "film" to describe the Dark Knight, that's because this film transcends the simple label of "movie" and like Christian Bale's Batman, becomes something more.
Expertly directed and written by Christopher Nolan, The Dark Knight picks up right where Batman Begins left off and seals up the time gap logically and sufficiently to help viewers move on from their "what happened in between" questions and propels them immediately into the new tale. While it seems Batman's crime fighting has helped Gotham and the police force, don't expect the attempted lightly comedic "good time sunshine" atmosphere a la Spiderman 3. No, Nolan brings us a Gotham that while somewhat cleaner than before, is still a harsh and cruel landscape where crime is rampant but the people now have hope.
Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is the city's new District Attorney and is the daytime equivalent to Batman's nighttime crime fighting. Dent is the person Gotham and Batman "can believe in!" to put a real human face onto the hope that Batman has started in the citizens of the city. A new threat comes in the form of the Joker, a psychotic murderer who seems interested only in the glory of chaos and despair.
The story clips along at a good pace despite its longer running time and all of the characters you love return with more heft and intelligence than ever before. The acting is absolutely incredible in this film, none of Heath Ledgers praise has been exaggerated in the slightest, the only way to describe him is brilliant, and even that doesn't properly do his performance justice. Bale, Eckhart, Oldman, and Caine are incredible as you'd might expect and suit their roles as any top-notch actor would, and Gyllenhal was an inspired choice to give life to the otherwise dull Rachel Dawes of the first film. Nolan really has packed an oscar's cast of actors into this film and it shows.
The story, Ledger's Joker especially, is NOT for the faint of heart. In fact if you're considering bringing your children to see this, ask yourself first if you'd take them to see the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, because this film is incredibly dark and gruesome. The difference is that this film is so much more visceral than any silly horror romp, it has a real lasting impression on the horrors of humanity and the frightening things people are capable of doing to one another for survival. The Dark Knight questions society's morality and points out how quickly the "good citizens" of the world (America specifically) are willing to kill others for their own convenience. It's really a terrifying portrait of the darkest depths of humanity.
In summary(because this review is sufficiently too long, lol), if you love film, if you love good acting, if you love Chicago or Heath Ledger, even if you love watching things explode and action films, SEE THIS MOVIE. I guarantee you, none of the hype has been exaggerated, it's spot on. This movie has made itself the new standard not only for superhero films, but for action/dramas period.

When Batman takes on the Joker, it should be scary, twistedly funny, and completely unpredictable. This movie managed all three, while also telling a complex story that comes down to showing how the line between good and evil can easily blur for every major character. Easily the movie of the year.

The film was very long at 2 1/2 hours and was not only action packed but during the low times the story kept you involved and intrigued.
Heath did a terrific job with the Joker character. He took the role and made it his own, not imitating the original joker, but twisting the character into a more dark and twisted individual. An award winning performance in my opinion.
The storyline was very fluid and had a strong conclusive ending, but at the same time leaves you asking "where will the director go with the story now". The film fills you up at 2 1/2 hours long and yet still you dont want it to end.
Its a little dark for kids under 10, but great for teens and the rest of us. "THE" summer blockbuster delivered in a big way. GO SEE IT!

I can't even begin to think of what to write for a review. All I keep thinking is I want to see this movie over and over.
When I find a movie I *love*, I see it in theaters as much as my bank account will allow. This movie is absolutely no exception.
I don't wish to spoil the movie for anyone, so all I have to say is: This movie is worth whatever you will spend to see it. Just do me a favor and don't clap during, or at the end of, the movie.
