Kept my heart pumping and my eyes fixated on the screen for the next action packed moment. A bit long; many sub-plots (will need to see again to decide if those were essential or not); Ledger and Bale were great in opposition; loved the supporting characters Lucius Fox and Alfred. The preachiness/political commentary was kept to a minimum. Definitely recommended.

Christian Bale is an awesome Bruce Wayne. He is the sexiest Bruce yet!!! He’s even a very good Batman. However, his Batman voice needs a lot of work. He sounds like he's gargling saliva. Batman’s voice should be authoritarian, not drooling or filled with mucous. The horrible voice throws off everything he says. Plus, it makes Batman’s big speech truly agonizing. Maybe Kevin Conroy, the voice of the Batman in Batman: The Animated Series should do voiceovers for Bale’s Batman.
Heath Ledger was an awesome Joker. His perfect performance was reminiscent of Jack Nicholson's Joker. However, Ledger gave the Joker lots of sex appeal. Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker was perfect. The voice was perfect. The face was perfect. Plus, his physique was much better than any Joker I’ve ever seen. He was totally and A+. I doubt we will ever see such a spectacular portrayal of the Joker again. R.I.P Ledger.

I thought it was very good, and Heath did a very cool Joker. However, I think that there was too much hype associated around his 'potential' Oscar-winning performace. The Joker was sinister, and brilliantly cunning in his overarching plan to (further) ruin Gotham & her defenders of justice. Heath played the part of a manaical sadistic sociopath very well. Christian Bale was super as the Batman. The other actors did a good job in showing the 'human' element that comicbook heroes/villains always seem to trample on/over. Some people complained in my theater about the length of the film. I thought it was just right to show the true scope of the Joker's plans ; if it was shorter, it would have seemed rushed.
So overall a very good movie, but all the hype around Heath Ledger, for me, made it seem a bit of a let down that I wasn't _completely_ blown away by his performance. 4.25 out of 5 stars from me.

for the past few years, I've felt a bit disappointed in superhero movies based off of graphic novels and comics, with the exception of the previous Batman movie, Batman Begins, also the Nolan family. However, in addition to Iron Man released a few months ago, The Dark Knight is, by far, one of the best movies of its genre. To put it another way, I am definitely going to buy this movie when it comes out, without hesitation, because I could watch this over and over again.

To sum "The Dark Knight" up in one word would be shortchanging the movie itself, but that would would definitely be "WOW"! This movie has everything! Amazing cinematography! Outstanding storyline! Impeccable acting! It pains me to think this is Heath Ledger's final movie... His acting left me longing for more. I could not believe his performance in this movie! To say his acting was phenomenal would be like saying Mount Everest is your average mountain!
Kudos to the cast and crew for making this years #1 movie!

This movie definitely lived up to the hype! Although I'd not seen much of the work by Christian Bale or the late Heath Ledger, I must admit that I'm now a fan. Watching this movie felt like an intense, rollercoaster ride. There were times when I was amazed, laughed and closed my eyes! I highly recommend viewing it again and again. By the way, kids under 13 years of age do not need to see it!

I would say this is by far the best Batman film. I love the first Batman but this one surpasses all my expectations. Great action, storyline, actors, and villains.
Christian Bale, Heath, Aaron, Morgan, and Maggie were all fantastic!

Being a longtime superhero fan, I have been (sometimes correctly) accused of having a bias towards movies based upon comic book characters. There's no bias here - "Dark Knight" is an extremely well-written, well-acted movie that should be considered one of the best films of the year - if not the best.
You've heard the hype about Heath Ledger as the Joker. It's all true. His performance is akin to a huge onion, where we slowly peel away the layers, learning more but never KNOWING. What will happen next? How complex is the depth of his twisted psyche and machinations? You'll have to see the movie to find out. His performance alone is worth the price of admission and really is Oscar-worthy. He BECOMES the Joker.
What about the rest? Christian Bale shows a man struggling not only with his dual roles as millionare and vengeful protector, but exactly where to draw that line - what does one do with infinite power and resources? A Machievellian question, to be sure, but Bale plays out the role with unexpected twists and makes us believe he is both Bruce Wayne and the Dark Knight.
The supporting cast, consisting of Maggie Gyllenhal, Morgan Freeman and the always-superb Michael Caine play well-balanced roles that all expand upon their characters' development in Batman Begins. In particular, Freeman's understanding of the corruptable power that Batman gains - and his refusal to be involved with it - is yet another example of the central question asked by this movie - what do you REALLY do when the chips are down?
Gyllenhal expands on the role that Katie Holmes played in the first movie and brings her soft emotion to the role. She, too, has choices to make. You'll be suprised by what she does. And Aaron Eckhart, as crusading DA Harvey Dent, while not quite the actor that Bale and Ledger are in this movie, also plumbs the depth of human despair. His tortured rise and fall are shocking, yet believable, to anyone put in his position and tortured as he is.
Altogether, the movie will leave you shaking and wanting more. There has to be more. Even at 2 1/2 hours, you keep hoping the story will continue, as an adrenaline-laced ride with such depth can't end, can it?

This movie was awesome! If you're going to expect something like the old Batman movie that had the joker, don't see this! The new Batman series is darker, and more twisted. I personally love this new take. As the movie went on, I saw hints at what I thought would be the next movie, but to my surprise, the hints made an appearance towards the end. Great surprise, great movie, I enjoyed it so much I didn't even realize how long it was.

Way too long, best Joker so far! I think the movie could have been made shorter and it still would have been successful. The acting was great the story was borderline boring, however I was entertained but was exhausted mentally and physically by the end.

I ended up rather exhausted and depressed after this movie. Maybe that was the point? It seemed to convey the message that the endless struggle between good / evil (and the evil within good, and vice-versa) would be going on forever, or at least for over two and a half hours. I like complicated discussions, and overall I thought the plot, although simple, had some strong points about personal sacrifice, and how much is hidden within people, which was amazing for a summer action movie. But given that, I'd say the performances were heavy-handed, the action scenes were relentless, and the hand-to-hand fighting was done in super close up jump-cut style which seemed, well, lazy. So don't go in thinking this is the greatest movie you'll see this year. Heath Ledger showed himself to be an amazing actor, and his talent is not wasted on the Joker performance, but the role left little room for nuance. As far as storytelling goes, this movie had very little resolution, and no redemption for any character, so it's unclear what the purpose was in telling it. I wonder if people are increasingly drawn to make, and consume, depressing material in order to help foster the illusion that the real world is not so bad. That seems to be somewhat the opposite of the traditional role for this kind of film. I say this because the previews were all for films that looked far darker than this one! Interesting film overall.

This movie is awesome!! It's worth the full price of admission. Heath Ledger did an excellent job as "The Joker". At times, he sounded a little bit like Jack Nickolson (voice wise, or maybe my imagination). I loved Harvey Dent and Christian Bale as Batman. Hopefully there will be another Batman movie soon.
