Have to say, my only problem was with the soundtrack....but probably only because I read about it ahead of time in a review and noticed. It wasn't bad, just not inspiring...needed a theme like Batman or Superman...or at least some better metal! Overall, a perfect movie for my favorite superhero!

Robert Downey Jr. was born to play billionaire playboy Tony Stark. He is fantastic in this movie, toss in some great action scenes and humor and this is what summer movies are all about. I enjoyed eveything about his movie, especially the very end.

Better than Batman; better than Superman; better than X-men; even better than Spiderman. This movie rocked. My wife and I saw it last night and were really blown away. The mix of action, comedy, special effects, a good story line, and good acting made this movie the new king of the superhero movies. This movie had it all. It does not disappoint. I wish I could add some extra stars!

IRON MAN is an excellent start for the 2008 blockbuster movie season. It has a tight script which wastes no time getting you into the action.
Robert Downy Jr. played a pitch perfect Tony Stark, the boozing and womanizing design genius of Stark Industries. Downy brought a snarky sense of humor to Stark that you see little of if you read the comics. His performance worked well to humanize Stark.
There are a few minor plot holes that are distracting, but less than in many comic-book derived movies. Regardless, the movie has a brisk pace that keeps you involved from start to finish in this superhero origin story.
NOTE: Make sure to stay past the end of the credits for a surprise scene.

I loved this movie! The "necessary" opening part of the movie - explaining how the superhero came to be - was (unlike almost all other movies of this genre sans Batman Returns) exciting and kept you on the edge of your seat. Downey, Jr. played the character of Stark more playful than the comic (hence less suave). But it worked well in having only 2 hours to show how his life outlooked was modified due to his torture and imprisonment. Overall, fantastic.

I had seen the trailers and I had hoped they didn't give too much away...they didn't--it was great. Not having been a fan of the comics, there was a slim chance the movie would disappoint me. Slim chance closed up!
And with what my husband has told me about the story line, I can't wait to see Trevor Howard step in for a drunk, beligerant Stark...a role made in heaven for Downey.
I also loved that even through it was CGI, you couldn't immediately tell it was CGI. That is what disappointed me most about the 1st Hulk, but this & Spidey has attained a very life like CGI character, along with real drama, suspense & action.

Great! The Pseudoscience was a bit of a stretch somtimes, which dissapointed the other half of the geek in me besides the comic book half. THAT half however, was squealing like a schoolgirl in heat. There were constant nods to events and characters and moments from the comics, we absolutely loved it.

I saw Iron Man last night with a wonderful crowd and came away smiling. I have been collecting comics since the 80's and rarely am I impressed, but Iron Man pulled it off. The cast was great and the special effects were done with superb craft. I would not only recommend this, but I would buy a HD DVD player just to see this movie in HD at home. Very good and respectful to its comic roots.

Without a doubt, this movie delivers. Whether it is the note-perfect performance of Downey as Tony Stark or the just plain bad*ss powered suits and weapons being built and perfected throughout the film. In terms of Stark's portrayal, there has NEVER been a better lead acting performance in a superhero movie(that includes Nicholson as the Joker). Downey is predictably great as the carefree, playboy jerk. But it's his transcendent performance in Stark's search for personal redemption that gives weight to what would otherwise be a fairly standard superhero portrayal as written on the page. Bridges is priceless as Obadiah Stane. He is charisma personified on screen and we as an audience just do not see him in enough movies any more(and we should be complaining about that). In portraying Iron Man’s origin, Jon Favreau wisely took a cue from Chris Nolan in Batman Begins in making sure the audience sees the wizard behind the curtain of his hero’s "superpowers". It dramatically increases my enjoyment of comic book movies when I can reasonably believe a hero’s powers can be crafted with enough money, devotion and ingenuity. Favreau's action sequences press all the right buttons. He doesn’t make the frustrating mistake of staying too tight where all you see is a mass of…whatever, and you have no reference point to figure out what’s going on. And while I grant that it must be modestly easier to render metal suits realistically than it is to render flesh and blood superheroes, the CGI is never over-the-top which is more than I can say for the car-chase-by-the-cliffs scene in the Indiana Jones 4 trailer that precedes this film.
On to the not so great, Favreau is a GIFTED director when getting performances, telling the story that’s on the page and in particular, finding the humor in the little life moments of a given scene. He is, however, not quite there yet as an event movie director. Overall, the film lacked the polish and what my moviegoing partner so aptly put, the "flourish", that a Michael Bay, a Gore Verbinski and yes, a Stephen Spielberg will add to the big pictures. Yes, I know Michael Bay is ALL flourish, no substance, but you have to give it up that he really does know that part of the river, cinematically speaking. There are so many scenes in Iron Man that BEG for the topper to really give you that joygasm, but they too often fall short. At least part of it is the absolutely poor music. If there’s a textbook example of filler music, this movie has it. It’s faded up and down during action sequences like you’re constantly being pushed in and out of a cr*p rock muzak elevator. It’s such a shame because it could have really heightened some of the action sequences and punctuated the big moments. The bad music may not be all Favreau’s doing, but he does let you down just a tiny bit with some of his choices during the action sequences. Best example is when Iron Man shoots the Unibeam at War Monger. And I use the word “shoots” because that’s all he did. To me, the Unibeam is a big weapon in Iron Man’s arsenal and Favreau should have shown him UNLEASHING it on War Monger. Instead, Favreau portrays it from a pretty distant vantage point as if it’s almost an afterthought and it causes next to no damage to the War Monger. I suppose it’s a minor criticism, but then again, I am huge fan of this movie and these little things could have put this, a great superhero film, at the top of the conversation of the best superhero film of all time. I actually have no doubt the Favreau will get it absolutely right in the next installment. This was a great movie and I’m going to see it again today.

Ironman definitely owns up to all of the hype from the past few months. Robert Downey Jr. portrays the cocky carefree Stark to perfection supplying a cache of witty one-liners and banter throughout the film. Action packed, great graphics and worth every penny. A must see.

I absolutely LOVE Iron man and from the previews I was expecting a great comic book movie. Well, it was a pretty good movie overall, but didn't live up the the expectations I had from it. The short fight with Iron Monger (who, btw, is not named in the film) could have been epic, but was disappointingly short. The storyline shift placing Obadiah as Tony's parter at the beginning of the movie rather than CEO of a competing company limits the storyline for future movies. For those of you who aren't comic book fans, Obadiah is supposed to attack Tony so much that he runs away in a depressed state and resorts to alcoholism before becoming the "new" Iron Man in the silver centurion armor.
I do have to give props to the movie for several references to possibilities for sequels. Rhodes considers putting on the armor of iron man, a nice bone to throw to fans of War Machine. Nick Fury's appearance at the end of the movie has me excited for the sequel already, Avengers: The Initiative is a great comic series and I can't wait to see some of our favorite heroes in movie form. Also, any attentive Iron Man fans out there, I think we have a possibility for Mandarin to appear in one of the sequels. I think it is no coincidence that the leader of the Ten Rings terrorist group is mentioned to be Asian, but not from Afghanistan where he is invading, has ambitions to take all of Asia, was conspicuously left alive by Obadiah, and insulted for not having any good technology...Ready for some Alien technology to fall into this guy's hands?
Overall I give it 4/5. It just doesn't quite deserve 5 stars, but I'd like to be able to give it four and a half.

I'm still buzzing a little from the midnight show of "Iron Man," but I can tell you that this will easily end up in my list of the top-three comic-book movies of all time.
Robert Downey Jr. completely embodies and brings to life Tony Stark, giving him a gravity and humanity that easily matches his dry sarcasm and brash persona. Unlike so many boyish actors stepping into the role of superheroes, Downey Jr. brings the experience and presence of a mature actor to the role, which elevates the entire film in so many ways.
The rest of the cast is pretty well fleshed-out. William Hurt plays Obadiah Stane with the calm control of a master manipulator who's used to getting his way. Gwenyth Paltrow's "Pepper Potts" is beautiful, self-confident, and smart--not just a pretty face like so many actresses in this type of film. Terrence Howard capably fills a very small part as Stark's military contact and friend.
The special effects are brash, over the top, and thrilling. The script is surprisingly well-written and easily moves from funny to poignant. And while the movie feels a little long in the middle, that's only because it feels like there's a LOT of movie being shown. If the director Jon Favreau is guilty of anything, it's packing too much story into the 126-minute run time. Not that I'm complaining.
Great film. I'm definitely seeing it again on the big screen, and picking it up as soon as it's available for home video.
One more thing: The comic book fans among you should stay to the end of the credits. Just trust me--it's worth it.

Iron Man surpasses all expectations. Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr have done it--the superhero genre movie has finally matured. Gone are the foolish bat-films of the 1990s. Surpassed are all Marvel's previous films, whether we're talking Spider-Man or X-Men Franchises or any of the one-offs: Hulk, Daredevil, Elektra, Punisher, Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer... All have been surpassed by an order of magnitude with today's release of Iron Man. Even the previous titleholder Batman Begins has been eclipsed now that Iron Man has raised the bar.
Jon Favreau proves that he isn't just a comic geek or an actor/director. Favreau shows us that he cares about the source material. Where others who have taken up a comic book property and adapted them to the big screen have not shown that they fully understand or respect the stories or personalities of the characters, Favreau's adaptation of Iron Man shows that despite the excuses we've been given from producers for years, you can take a set of characters, their personalities and interrelations, their powers, surroundings, and circumstances and make a great movie that is also a great comic book movie, uninsulting to those that have loved the characters in their original medium for decades.
Iron Man is the greatest superhero movie of all time.
DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL AFTER THE CREDITS

this movie was fantastic.. the action was great the story was true to the comic and Robert Downey Jr. and the rest of the cast were amazing .. it had everything you would want and i loved it .. im going to see it again ... and stay to end (after Credits for a treat)
