Very good. Helen Mirren did an excellent job and I could see why she was nominated for an Oscar! Christopher Plummer did an excellent job as well. The whole cast was great. James McAvoy was beautiful like always :) and acted great. Story was a great love story and then a great tragedy. It was all beautiful and all I want is to age as beautiful as Helen has... :)

Just excellent ~ Both of us thought the acting was superb, which is, for us, 95% of the movie. Would definitely recommend The Last Station to others.

Actual acting which is always refreshing. Good introduction to a person I am not that much aware off. Enjoyed the movie very much. Buty, reading other reviews, seems a lot was left out. Great supporting characters were well done.

The acting is top notch and the period settings are very good. My objections are that since it is a biographical snapshot it lacks real drama (the melodrama notwithstanding). That is, there's not much plot. Also the actors and their style seem very British and not at all Russian. Given the subject matter I'd expect more of the real lives of the peasants to be shown too. The scribbling in journals is quite fun.

This movie depicts the last months of Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy, and in particular the conflicts with his wife Sophia. In later life Tolstoy "radicalized" and wanted to practice celibacy, and give away his property (he was wealthy nobility) and his copyrights. This dismayed his wife and was the source of ongoing conflicts in what had been a happy and physically passionate marriage. The two principals in this movie, Christopher Plummer and Helen MIrren both give fine performances, especially Mirren. All in all, a fine study in characters and relationships.

This movie was beautiful to look at, the acting was superb, and the story intense. If you prefer your movies with chases and wisecracking, yes, you will find it slow. But the characters--the Russian writer Leo Tolstoy and his family and fellow pacifists--were real people being portrayed by skillful actors (not "movie stars"), who wonderfully played the emotions felt among their characters.

Regretfully I have to be a rotten egg here. My husband and I found it very boring and slow. Kept waking each other up to no avail. Take your nap at home it's cheaper.
