The acting is top notch and the period settings are very good. My objections are that since it is a biographical snapshot it lacks real drama (the melodrama notwithstanding). That is, there's not much plot. Also the actors and their style seem very British and not at all Russian. Given the subject matter I'd expect more of the real lives of the peasants to be shown too. The scribbling in journals is quite fun.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
