I have never read the books so this was all new to me. I'm the mom of 4 and 8 year old girls. My girls liked the movie - I kept waiting for a story line to start. There isn't much of a plot. The kids are cute but it made me feel like a failure as a parent! The parents in the movie never yelled at their kids once - seriously? Am I the only mom who yells at her kids when they do destructive things to the house? Still, ALL the leading men were incredibly good looking which made this movie easy to watch!

long and slow

This movie took FOREVER to get started. Jackie Chan doesn't even have a line until one hour in. The whole movie was sooooo slow. Our kids 8, 7, 5 and 4 were bored silly but did pay attention at the end - the last half hour was good. LIttle Jaden was pretty good and Jackie Chan was my favorite. i loved all the scenes with Jackie Chan - but there weren't enough of them - way too much focus on little Jaden. easily could cut 30 to 45 minutes out of this movie and it would still be good. China scenery was great.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
