This film is far different from previous Batman films, let alone the old television series. It is not suitable for younger children or for those susceptible to nightmares! Heath Ledger was amazing in his portrayal of sociopathy, and had he lived he could have proudly worn the crown now on the head of Jack Nicholson. Bale was a bit too brooding but his persona changes were seamless. Sir Michael, of course, is always brilliant, and this case was no exception. His was the humour which turned this from a horror film to an intelligent suspense. The true genius was the makeup artist, rarely does one have to close one's eyes to keep from losing one's popcorn. Eckhart started off seeming to be the vain politician, but his character unpeeled neatly like a plump onion. Watch out for his star to rise like a meteor on steroids. Just don't take the kids, unless you want them sharing your bed for a couple of months afterwards!
