Not familiar with the books, I did not know anything of the story before the movie. There is a lot of talk about death, so think twice before you take young ones. I wanted more explanation of the dragon line of the story. Overall It has a wonderful look. I loved the main characters. A little boy sitting next to me was puzzled by the wizard wanting eternal life. and to be honest, so was I. If I didn't have so many books piled to read this summer, I may add this book to my reading list to get a better understanding of the story.

Having seen the play several times, I was curious how it would be filmed. I was impressed that the camera was up close and personal, not from the audience's viewpoint. It gave the play a whole new vision to be that close. The movie captured the thrill of the final performance in NYC. I want it on DVD!!!!!
