Yes, people actually die in this movie and the action is as gritty as any John Cassavettes film could ever be. The action is believable and the storyline is straight and to the point while keeping it interesting. This stands alone as a great movie even if you've never heard of Batman or any of the actors in the film and that is what makes it a great "movie." It could almost be a "film." There is a big difference between a movie and a film and due to Ledgers performance it is on its way to filmdom. See it in theatres and acquire the DVD as this will be an enduring classic. The Dark Knight shines a light on Hollywood mediocrity giving the moviegoer a touch of art and soul as Batman gives hope to Gotham City. I clapped and didn't finish my popcorn. Need I say more?
