I was utterly taken aback...

As much as I love most superhero films, and considering that I was already a big Batman fan, I was still completely taken aback by this film. This has got to be, no wait a minute, this IS one of the best movies I have seen in the last 7 or 8 years.
I've already seen it twice, both times on IMAX and I fully intend to go see it a third time this coming weekend. And btw, since 6 scenes were shot using an IMAX camera comprising something like 30 some odd minutes of the film, it's the only way to truly see this picture. You won't regret paying the extra two or three dollars. Word of advice, get a seat that is in the center aisle, center row.
Also, for those of you who think that you won't enjoy it because it's too long, this film felt a LOT shorter than than the actual running time which is a testament to how taut the script is.
And yes, Heath Ledger has completely personified the Joker. I think he'll definitely get an Oscar nomination for Best Actor and so far he's got the best chance of actually winning the award, not because he died, but because he amazes you and scares you at the same time. I haven't felt that afraid of a character on screen since Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs. Absolutely gorgeous.
Oh and one more thing. Watch this movie before you take a young child to see it. When you see the film, you'll find out why. Hope this helps.
