I Wanted to Believe

As an avid fan I was dissapointed in the movie. I knew going into the movie that the alien storyline was not going to be included, but I wanted to believe that the writers had enough sense to make the movie interesting. That being said, with the alien mythology being at the core of the series, I find it absurd that Cater chose not to go down that road. There was a perfect set-up on the last episode with the 2012 invasion.
This movie will not satify hard core viewers and will make a newbie wonder what the fuss all about.
What irritated me the most was Scully mentioning Mulder's sister and trying to link his determination over finding the missing girl to his long-held pain. That storyline was closed with "Closure" and dragging it up again was lame and a cheap way to include Mulder's history in this movie.
If this movie were an epidose, I would have considered it okay, but to put this out as a movie for serious fans who have waited years, is an insult.
I own all the episodes and the 1st movie, but I have to say the only way I will ever own this movie is if someone gives it to me and I doubt I would ever open it up. Thanks Carter and good luck getting funding for another movie-- X-Files fans appreiciate it.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
