Could have been better

Why was John Connor so surprised to see a terminator in real human skin? He saw them twice when he was a kid. I know it was more about the terminator being half human half machine, but still seemed the Connor character was a little too surprised for what he had gone through when he was a kid. Why are there always random fires burning in the street years after the apocalypse? Also I would have liked to seen a darker and grittier version (as Reese flashed back to in the original) with a R rating.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
