This is what the comic book was meant to be...the superhero is fallible, but ultimately victorious. There isn't any of the Hollywood charicature silliness of past Batman or Superman movies...the bad guys are believably scary and sick.
We've seen some of the action scenes before, but they have a Batman twist, which makes them fun. The best part of the plotline? Who dies and who doesn't die.
Moreover, an Oscar for Heath Ledger.
