This film does not agrandise war. It does discuss the ramifications of addiction to combat of the soldiers involved. The acting is excellent. It does not rely on special effects. Best drama this year. It is a personal film about the damage done to men in war.
This is the better part of the two films. Hanks and McGregor are always good. Very dense and exposition filled first 40 minutes, which is a dead bore; but, film picks up and ends up being fairly good. Surprisingly not terribly down on the Catholic church and its dogma.
Go behind the scenes at tracks with trainers, owners and jockies for prep races leading up to the Derby. This is not just a dry, boring documentary but showcases the characters behind the beautiful 3-year old stars. The film shows six horses trying to qualify for the Derby and the thrills and disappointments involved in this pursuit of the roses. Along with Jazil, Lawyer Ron and Brother Derek, Barbaro is also on view in the races he won. This is a great movie about racing. Go. Look for it.
