Improving the best of the first movie: amount of screen time for the transformers themselves, and the bot-on-bot action, the movie also includes more of the worst of the first film: the crass humor and major plot holes. I love seeing the bots brought to life, but the movie loses a lot of storytelling cohesion by throwing in plot devices that appear for no other reason than, well, we have a bigger budget, so let's add this. Some of the characters shine: Optimus, Jetfire, Megatron and Starscream, while others completely get lost in the larger scale: Ironhide, Arcee and even the Fallen. Shia, Megan and the human cast do a fine job in their roles, even if they are mostly used as objects in jeopardy. I liked it, but didn't love it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
