I'm sure everyone has their own idea of exactly what batman is supposed to be, and what his world and other people in it are supposed to be like. This batman movie has my favorite rendition of the Joker. Heath Ledger is amazing as the Joker. Of course the actors in this movie all did a fantastic job, and I'm not just saying it to be polite.
The story was pretty long and involved, but I never felt like I was lost. Each event in the movie was crafted extremely well. The writers of this script should be applauded for making sure that none of the major characters was left behind, and instead of seeing the inexorable progress of the hero, we got to see a more "realisitic" unravelling of events that pays attention to the fact that everyone... even the villains... progress.
My only complaint is the use of technobabble explanation for one piece of the movie. It was fine for most of it, but without giving anything away, I believe they could have achieved the same or better results in given segment of the movie with better ideas instead of the techno-babble. It was the only thing that caught my attention as a mental speed bump for the story.
I recommend this movie to anyone who can enjoy a slightly darker film, a gritty batman, and portrayal of the Joker second to none.
