This was an excellent, tightly written story told in a very straight forward manner. Unlike many of the other 'cartoon' movies there was no camp and nothing but 'realism'. Even the sets were realistic, not cartoonist and the reference to Hong Kong and the visit brought it up to date.
This is an adult Batman and I rank it as one of the top three movies I've seen in a while. Keith Ledger's performance was fantastic and played very strongly against Christian Bale's fleeting hope
Bye the way, I would NOT recommend this movie to any child under 10. It was violent in physical, emotional and psychological terms.
