This movie hits all the right notes, and I'm no fan of zombie films or all the tired parodies that have been spewing out of Hollywood of late. Went as usual with my 13 year old son and we both laughed many times (though sometimes at different spots) throughout the movie. While it was hilarious, it was also thought-provoking and even a bit inspiring. A great companion to Adventureland.
Went with my 13-year old son and his friends (13, 9). They prounounced it "good" but didn't talk about it afterwards, which is to say, it's consumable but leaves you empty. Some good lines and actors (Gervais did much with a small part). The female lead got on my nerves with her lack of facial expressions (one long perky glittering-eyed posed smile) and chipper dialogue, not to mention the uninformed cinematic fixation on her thin, unremarkable slightly padded derriere. In fact, the film was rather like her derriere.
Benjamin Buttons is a successful tear-jerker, to be sure, but it is excessively long. In fact, I began to think we'd never get out of the theater. Length as such doesn't bother me when it contributes to plot or character or idea development, but here it just had the feeling that the director couldn't decide what to let go, so he left it all in. The message, repeated ad infinitum: we grow old and die so enjoy life while you can.
